I would've…read moregiven this place 1 star back in the day, but I've really come to appreciate what I gained by going here. Its an all boys school and it really helped keep my head in the game. Since there were no girls here you could really behave in a way only permissalbe in this type of environment. These days they require hair samples to check for drugs, really kind of a turn off, but I would have to see about the complete nature of this system. The building and overall environment has gone through some drastic remodeling and only continued to improve the education offered there. It really is the last of a handfull of catholic all boys schools in the city and in my opinion the most robust. I was the first generation in my family to go here, and would possibly consider sending my child (if i ever have any) here if the opportunity arose. Although they might be hesitant of accepting any of my offspring considering what I put them through.

An all-boys school should not be promoting any influence against women's bodies. 2. These are young boys who are still navigating their beliefs, and teachers should not influence this type of rhetoric. I understand this is a common Catholic belief (along with anti-birth control when it comes to contraceptives), but I think a lot of those students will look back on this demonstration with regret as adults.

I really shouldn't be saying this, would hate for this little gem to get any bigger. As for the complaint about community and Senn HS; relations are great with our community. Parking seems to be our biggest issue but that is with any Chicago High School with no student parking. The relationship with Senn HS is fair. I wish CPS would step in to allow RNA student to be on sports teams like football, since the size of our school doesn't accommodate the number of students needed on a team. Maybe we could allow some of their student to be on the sailing team in return. As for other sports, we are doing really well, alongside schools like Von, Red division. AP classes and honors classes are offered to students that do well in a subject, you do not have to be in all honors or AP, unlike other schools. If I could make a change it would be to offer more career training for students not looking to go to a 4 year college. I would also like our own school and campus. We could grow to 1000 students if the the student/teacher/support staff ratio stays the same.

Also, they have very poor relations with the community and Senn High School. If you are interested in a military style education for your child, there are quite a few options in Chicago that are better like Air Force or Phoenix.

I am an adult who is 40 years old. I know right from wrong. Principal Tennison might have shook every Lane students hands while he was in office, he neglected their needs as far as stress goes. There was no relief, no therapist offered whatsoever. Brian Tennison did not care. Plus, he took away all the parents privileges to volunteer at their Prom. I was devastated at that time. Even though, my youngest daughter was unhappy about me not going to her prom. I would have been very happy without dancing and prom dinner. I rather be in the same ballroom with both my daughters' prom instead of dinner and dancing. We survived without it. I do not know who changed the prom volunteer policy. Hence I am very sad at Brian Tennison. Dr. Christopher Dignam was a very very excellent principal. Dr. Dignam allowed parents to participate as prom volunteers. You rock Dr. Christopher Dignam!!!!!! Does anyone have a say about the parents, prom and Dr. Chris Dignam?

Academics were great and they did an amazing job offering different levels of math and reading to meet the students where they are at. The principal is amazing and the kids adore and respect her - she is a true gem! The 8th grade homeroom teacher was also incredible, as is the office staff. It was an all around positive experience and it's a school that lives what they preach. The school itself is clean, well set up with comfortable classrooms, great gym, amazing kitchen and a bowling alley! The pastor is wonderful and the kids get a well rounded education and they leave prepared and ready for the next chapter. Tuition is reasonable and a great value. I highly recommend St. John's!
