OPRF has been a great high school since 1873. Residents have always expected their public high…read moreschool to be as good as any private prep school, and it is. Large enough to offer a selection of courses and activities that small schools don't even dream about. 90% of graduates go to college. This school has produced at least four Pulitzer Prize winners, one Nobel Prize winner (Ernest Hemingway, class of 1917), a Miss America, Olympic athletes, Oscar and Emmy nominees, leaders and award winners in many professions, and thousands of well-educated human beings. I had the good fortune to attend and graduate from Oak Park in the '60s. The demographics have changed a lot since then, but not the quality education or the results. I have attended seven colleges and universities in three states since then, earning a BA, two master's degrees, and a post-master's certificate along the way, and I'll put my OPRF diploma up against the high school education of anyone I met in any of those schools.

The quality of their educations has been extraordinary and both children thrived with clubs, intramurals and other extracurricular activities including a study-abroad in Ireland trip for one child and a Washington DC Art History field trip for another. Shout out to the amazing counselors, Special Education team, and social workers. My kids have favorite teachers but too many to name personally. The arts program is the highest quality. Theater, too! The school board has been doing some wonderful work in the past few years. We appreciate the recent policy in support of transgender students and their work on improving racial equity. We have been really happy at OPRF and my kids are lucky to attend.

If you have to endure those confusing, hormone-addled years somewhere, Julian Middle School is a good place to do it. As a parent, I would volunteer there for lunchtime projects so I could peek into the cafeteria and watch kids in the halls. No food fights, no overt disrespect, no running or rough-housing, at least that I could see. The teachers and administration take bullying seriously, and clamp down hard when the kids are brave enough to report it. Academics are fine, though neither kid had a stellar experience in science.

He cannot sleep at night because he knows he has to go to school in the morning. Lunch is not long enough. You get 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to go outside in the cold and you have no option to stay inside for any reason like forgetting your jacket or you havent finished your lunch and several times my son has been told to clean up other students messes because they were at the same table as him and left it there (not next to him of course) and when he refused he got multiple lunch detentions. my son gets his name made fun of it really is a horrible school he has no friends because no kids will even be nice to him. The staff is not helpful at all. He gets bullied every so often for being different and not having a facebook or snapchat or whatever this stupid generation is into. I could go on and on but im gonna end this. DONT SEND YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL IT IS REALLY HORRIBLE!

My son completed and presented an excellent capstone project at the end of his 8th grade year. The teachers and administration are professional, attentive and innovative.

We moved our son to The Children's School in fifth grade with some trepidation. Changing schools at…read morethat age felt like a big leap, especially when it meant adding a not-so-short commute from Chicago's north side. But we have been grateful for that decision time and time again. One of the first things that struck us was how often he spontaneously commented on the kindness and welcoming nature of the other students, and how much the teachers genuinely listen to kids. These weren't responses to parental questions--they were unprompted observations from a 10-year-old! He also fell in love with Expression Lab, which he struggled to describe except to say, "It's just a place where you get to be yourself." The academics are another thing we've come to appreciate deeply. There's genuine rigor here, but it's rooted in curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement rather than rote memorization. Students don't just learn how to solve an equation; they explore *why* it works and discuss different ways of approaching a problem. Project-based learning gives them opportunities to dig into real data and real-world issues, ask questions, and share what they've learned in creative ways. I've seen students celebrate their original fiction at a publishing party, bring history to life through a recreation of an assembly line, and much more. Right now, my son is hard at work on a persuasive essay exploring gender-based pay disparities in professional sports. It's the kind of learning that feels relevant, challenging, and genuinely engaging. And so much learning happens beyond the classroom. Regular movement and outdoor time are woven into the school experience, from woods days and kayaking trips to middle school camping at the Indiana Dunes. These experiences build practical skills, confidence, independence, and problem-solving abilities, while giving kids space to explore, connect, and challenge themselves. Now, seeing our son thrive in middle school, I appreciate even more how deeply the school's philosophy is reflected in everyday experiences. Children are truly *known* as individuals and treated with respect. Adults engage with empathy, curiosity, and care, helping students better understand themselves, communicate their needs, and stretch beyond their comfort zones, knowing they have people who will listen, support, and challenge them. There's also a genuine sense of community here. Seeing friendships and joyful interactions across ages, watching students look out for one another, and getting to know other families through informal after-school gatherings have all reinforced how special this place is. At a time when the ability to understand ourselves, respect differences, think critically, and care for one another feels especially important, I'm grateful our son is growing up in a school community that doesn't just talk about these values, but puts them into practice every day. We're so glad we made the leap.

Totally shocked that Trinity has only 1 review…read more It is one of not many all girl schools still educating and holding their own. Trinity has turned a corner and was one of the first high schools to offer an International Baccalaureate Program, along with other programs. I know I was well prepared for college upon graduation. The 100th graduating class is the class of 2018, that's a lot of education. Sister Michelle is dynamic, gets the word out, and is totally AWESOME. The girls here are very mean, and if you're okay with your daughter vaping and smoking then this is the perfect place. The classes are uneducated once took a physics class we didn't have one test nor homework done got a 100% for the whole course. Everyone here is racist and the thievery has gotten out of hand. I got my $100 aritiza jacket stolen and my shoes stolen, and people have opened and went into my locker during 3a and 3b when were in class and taken money or stole things. They don't care at all about mental health and there cockroaches throughout the school mainly the bathrooms and cafe area. when I please tell you coming from a student who has hated her 4 years and is a senior I have not learned much from this school send your child to Fenwick or Resurrection. This school is basically a private OPRF, please think before you send your child here thank you. This is what my child and multiple of her friends wrote out and told me. Unacceptable
