Beware ****terrible school terrible faculty ****…read more For the last 3 weeks my child has been being severely bullied a child and her aunt followed my children who take the shuttle from Kipp middle to Kipp primary school and verbally assaulted both my 13 year old and my 11 year old the following day the little girls aunt brung a bunch of people to the school to jump on me and my kids and the school did absolutely nothing even tho the aunt and her friends brung a gun on campus they separated the kids from each others classes but now the little girl is verbally bullying my child and damaging her property every time she sees my child she calls her scary and last Thursday the child poured out my daughters back pack on the floor and broke a iPhone 15 that I paid 829$ for and then told my child how she stomped on it while in the lunch room I purchased her a new phone and I don't let her take it to school I drop it off at her grandmas house which is where she goes after school but she carry's her charger so today the child dumped her back pack out again and stole her new charger to her new phone and ms.chase disregarded the situation and told my daughter what do you need a charger for you don't have a phone lol these people are jokes and are not taking this situation serious or keeping my children and their belongings safe they restricted my kids from the shuttle and make them sit in the office before and after school but the bully roams freely the principal allowed my kids back on the shuttle but now ms Watson is harassing my kids saying they can't ride the shuttle and calling them liars. It comes to a point! I think they don't like me and they are taking it out on my children by allowing this type of behavior to go on for so long with no consequences! On top of everything the school is lying for the little girl and her family and won't return my emails or calls

I will forever regret not taking more opportunities at Lane, and taking advantage of all it had to offer. Looking back, I realize just how lucky I was to have taken the classes I did as none of my friends in other high schools had the option of taking those classes. I wish I had joined clubs and not ran to work after school every day because I preferred making money. I feel like I'd have a lot more memories about my years in high school, but I have very few. Either way, if and when I do have kids, and they are off to high school, Lane Tech will be the number one choice. Yes, I will make that decision for them! Lane has evolved in every way, and continues to be one of the top schools with thousands of students which is why I can only imagine what it will be like in 10, 20 years and so on. I definitely plan on going back for a tour and just walking the halls, not worried about making it to the next class across the entire school in four whole minutes!

As an African-American student, my niece went to this school for 2 years, because her family lived…read more2 blocks from the school. My niece is very smart, started a school club and pretty much keeps to herself. She has one very good friend, at the school, who is Latina. Unfortunately, she couldn't enjoy her time at Unity, due to continuously being called the "n" word in a disrespectful & offensive manner. The staff did nothing. And the 2 times she my niece had to defend herself, she got punished. The Hispanic children, in efforts of trying to be cool, often referred themselves, as the "n" word. Upon her graduation (class of 2023), she was quoted as saying, "I'm glad, I don't have to come back to this racist school again!".

I was a student at Healy School in 1986 - 1987. My family had recently moved to the United States…read morefrom Brazil in the summer of 1986. I was a frightened and confused 5 year old and I spoke no English. My Healy school kindergarten teacher, Ms. Martinez, not only committed to giving me the foundation of an American standard kindergarten education, but also committed to helping me learn English in order for me not only to "get by", but to advance beyond expectations. I spoke Portuguese, she spoke Spanish, and together we bridged the two to lead me toward the English language. I was 5 years old, but I remember so much of my time in her classroom because she was so invested in my success. I have thought about her and her incredible impact on my life throughout the years. I wish I could thank her now, as a 38 year old college graduate, for all the care, patience, and investment she exhibited to a scared 5 year old fish-out-of-water little girl. I was very much taken under her wing. I am currently a registered nurse finishing a graduate program to become a Nurse Practitioner in May 2020. I have had many teachers over the last 33 years, but Ms. Martinez was my first and the most influential. This care and gentle guidance formed me into the successful woman I am today, and this public elementary school on the south side of Chicago should be proud of this teacher and all like her.

This school is good but it could be better. Much better. We aren't allowed to sit with other…read moreclasses at lunch or recess and the lunch isn't edible most of the time. Physical activity is highly prioritized here but couldn't care less about things like Cheerleading. Academics are okay but the way teachers speak to students is highly inappropriate and higher ups need to speak with volunteers and others on how they can speak to kids. Me and my friends were sitting quietly at recess when this monitor tells us to move down just so they can go and sit in that spot to talk about kids. When she moves us she made only 2 of us sit in a row when there was 3 and when I said we are all together she said just sit down. The teachers also need to discipline students better or less. Other kids pick on students in a jokingly manner that greatly affects them and when the teachers ignore it, it hurts
