Since we hadn't been to Scandia before, we didn't have anywhere particular in mind to go. When arriving at a park, we noticed it shared a space with Gammelgarden. When we had parked to go to the playground, we had actually parked in front of a Swedish historical museum. We were so pleasantly surprised! Visiting cultural and history sites is our favorite thing to do, so we couldn't believe our luck. To top it off, they were open on a Sunday for a guided tour! Our guide, named Reese, was in costume and was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Finding a museum open for business on a Sunday in a small town was an unexpected pleasure. For the next couple of hours, we experienced the buildings and artifacts that make up this wonderfully historic little complex, including the oldest Lutheran church inthe state of Minnesota! Each house, called "hus", was filled with original artifacts from the people who lived in Sweden or Scandia as it was first blossoming as a settlement. The museum gave us information on upcoming events and classes that each member of my family would be interested in - including an event thus summer where participants roll "meatballs" made from painted golf balls down to Gammelgarden from a shop on the main street. We will definitely be coming back!

Our tour just walked us up and down a stretch of Main Street by Stone Arch Bridge. We stayed outside the whole time (no creepy basements like we'd been promised) and didn't even make it over to the Mill Ruins on the other side of the river. The ghost hunting equipment was extremely chintzy, but that didn't bother me as much as just the way the tour felt surfacey and low-effort. The stories told were interesting, but there weren't that many of them and they were not very detailed or in-depth. Some tours I've been on, including a ghost tour, included 2-3x as many stories and facts, and they were also a lot more detailed. Our guide was very nice, fun, and did tell some interesting morbid history about NE Minneapolis, and I don't intend this review to reflect on them so I am not using their name. I'm sure they were just doing what the company tells them to do; the problem is with the company's design of the tour. Overall this tour was not worth the time or money, at least not the experience we were given.

The first thing that upset me about this was it was scheduled for 8pm. We arrived at 7:30 and they weren't even open. At 8pm they opened the door only to explain they had left me a message that the tour would be at 9pm instead of 8pm. I never received that message! So we find ourselves with an hour to kill until the tour starts. I don't think Mike and I ever really determined why it was haunted as there are only 2 true large areas to visit inside. We compared notes later and neither seemed to remember why. I have no doubt there is something there, being believers, but needed more history explained, and of course for them to have contacted me directly when the time changed.

At the appointed time we loaded our trolley where we got our "ghost glasses" and our candles and away we went. We were entertained with stories of the old mansions and landmark around downtown Minneapolis. We got off the trolley at a couple of stops to see some of the haunted places and hear the stories. It was a chilly night but the trolley was warm and they also provided blankets to keep toasty. I will be going back for some of their other tours. If you are new to the area, want to do something different for a date night or just want to learn some fun history about Minneapolis, I recommend this tour. It was so fun!

This is a family owned business and they do a pretty good job of running. The tour guide was very informative about the places we were passing by. They offer a variety of tours, but we opted for the narrative day tour. It was a good amount of time for the tour, not too short, not too long. There is street parking and also they said you could park at the church across the street. The pillsbury house is the meeting point. It looks like they do tours as well but i didnt inquire about it. They do have ADA accommodations as well.

They have something for every biker, no matter what skill level you are. This event is definitely family friendly. In the beginning years, I would ride the longer 50+ mile routes. Now, they have shortened the options down to 16, 25 or 32 miles that day. With multiple routes to choose from you can't go wrong! It's a beautiful experience to view the city and see how all the paths connect. Minneapolis/St. Paul have hundreds of miles of paved paths, so this ride can show you how to navigate them, rather than be intimidated. There is great signage to know which ways to turn to stay on course. The helpful rest stops supply delicious food and often music/entertainment along the way. The best part is the finish line! Here, you can get your free beer, visit the vender village and listen to a live band as you sit with fellow cyclists feeling proud of yourself!
