I thought it would be more of a trail as it's off of a lake. The trail is very short and is a dead end once you get down by the lake. There is a bench down by the water if you decide to take in the views. Otherwise it's a pretty chill memorial. I thought the war dog memorial part was cool, not sure I've ever really seen a memorial dedicated to the dogs. Thank you to those who have served!

It's part of the historical society and I don't think they provide too much aside from the use of the space (my friends were able to come a day early and decorate). The grounds are very well-kept and perfect for a wedding the DIY wedding of the century (seriously, I have talented friends). The ceremony was outside under the trees, and the lawn is plenty big enough for games, a few tables, outdoor bars, etc. The barn itself is also great. And thanks to my friends' hard work decorating it up like crazy, it was SO GORGEOUS. There was a long head table down the middle and then rectangular tables around both sides so they just got rid of the head table to open up the dance floor. Not sure who was in charge of that, but the transition was seamless. As a bride-to-be myself, I'm going to try to mention all the important things in terms of wedding (or event) wish lists... so forgive the strange (and not cohesive) details, but here goes! -The house on the property can be used by the bridal party to get ready. -The place was flexible with food and drink vendors as long as they were licensed, so my pals had an Indian buffet from India Palace in Woodbury. Green Mill did their bar. -A lot of barn weddings you have to rent port-o-johns, but they had multiple normal restrooms even in the barn itself. -They do hayrides -They rent chairs, tents and tables -I get the impression that their rates are fairly reasonable. -I also get the impression that the volunteer working with the group on the weekend of wasn't the easiest to deal with, but it's not necessarily going to be the same person every time. -No ATM -Due to the venue's restrictions, the wedding had to end at 10 p.m. Sad face.

I walked into this center while attending a conference in the Saint Paul hotel across the street. I was so pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the inside is, how nice the two museums (a musical instrument museum, with amazingly beautiful old pianos, and a woodwork museum with a great collection of carved wood items) are, and how friendly and helpful the staff/volunteers were inside the center. And all of that is free to the visitors! What a wonderful opportunity to see the region's history and culture , and meet some friendly locals! I can't recommend this place enough!

The event I signed up for is called Tots and Trains is geared for ages two to five. It includes full access to the museum (but not actual train rides), Story Time readings, a small snack, and crafts ($11 for adults, $6 for ages 3 to 6). The normal adult admission is $16.05. I would say there are two audiences for this museum. If you have a small child and are looking for a 2 hours or so of entertainment, your toddler will have a blast playing with all of the levers and buttons on the actual trains, as well as watching the model railroad, the various play areas, and the built-in story time and snack. My toddler had a blast. The second very different audience would be older teen through adults who are train buffs. They are at least half a dozen (or more) actual train engines inside the museum and volunteers who are happy to give you as much detail as you could possibly want. If you are model railroad person, this is also a good place to check out their very large exhibit. I'm glad this part of history has been preserved by this museum and the hard-working volunteers.

Waitstaff circulated with hors d'oeuvres as we waited in the receiving line, keeping everyone engaged. I loved the library theme, from the Save The Date library book cards to the tables identified by famous authors. We were seated at Dickens, our dinner preferences printed out on beautiful bookmarks. The three-story ceilings are reached by massive bookshelves with upstairs hallways for reaching those high books. The flowers were gorgeous and organic and the catered food was delicious from salad to dessert. It's not an inexpensive venue, but it is warm and intimate once you get here. We ran into detours, slow trains, and closed roads so we had our Uber let us out about a 1/4 mile away because we were about to be late. We literally made it in as the ceremony started. Road construction, closed roads, detours, and slow freight trains don't show up on your travel map!

Using it as a meeting space wasn't the greatest, since the speakers had power point presentations with lots of writing, and because the seating had to be deep and narrow, it was hard for those in the back. My family visits Union Depot regularly for local…read moreevents such as the Saint Paul Art Crawl, local craft shows, to get steps in the winter and last year took the North Pole Express for the experience. I'm proud to announce that this year we finally booked a 6-hour train ride from Saint Paul to Sturtevant which is near Milwaukee, WI. We had a wedding to attend and rather than drive 5-hours, we decided to add another hour on the train and be hands free and comfortable. It was the best decision ever! Showing up to the depot 30 minutes before departure vs. 2-hours at an airport was the biggest flex. The depot is also very sanitary and has great security. There's even security in the women's bathroom so big kudos there. Depending on the time of your departure, shops and coffee might not be open but again, this is not a travel spot you need to be at hours in advance so that wasn't a knock for us. The Borealis Amtrak was the train we took and adored it. Was it super updated and high end? No. Did it have an upper and lower deck? Yes. Was the leg room out of this world with feet resters and chairs that reclined basically all the way down? Yes. Was there great overhead space for luggage and only 2 seats per aisle with no middle row ever? Yes. Was there a snack cafe? Yes. Did we see fall foliage out the windows? Yes. Did we play on electronics the entire ride? No. We looked out the window for 6-hours watching nature, seeing tons of deer, bodies of water, etc. If you're even considering a short trip to Rochester, etc. DO IT! This is the greatest adventure ever and it's affordable. Staff is beyond friendly and helpful especially for us as first timers. As I am pregnant, they even let us move into the family line and board first. We also saw a huge catering service towards the elderly population where they escort those who need extra time before the family line and encourage them to sit downstairs to avoid the stairs as there is no elevator. My husband and I look to book a longer trip in the near future in one of the sleeper trains going to see the mountains. I cannot vote for this more. Enjoy!! Toot toot!!!

My sister, son and I came in the middle of the day on a Wednesday in August. You don't need to sign up; anyone can wander in and go on a tour that they have scheduled throughout the day. It's even free, though they of course gladly accept donations. Being from NJ, I was struck by the midwestern friendliness of everyone in the building. Nearly everyone engaged me in friendly conversation the whole time. The tour was 45 minutes and was incredibly interesting. Learned all sorts of facts about the building and Minnesota in general. We were the first tour to be able to go on the roof in three months as they had just finished up renovations. If you're not on a tour, you're allowed to just wander the building at your own pace. Definitely a must see for those interested in history and architecture!
