This snowpark is intense. Make sure you have protective gear for your kids (helmets, etc.) and know what you're getting into.

It's easy to find and park at, next to the Jim Lupient Water Park off of Johnson. I come here for free community yoga on Tuesdays, led by the generous instructor Tatum Fjerstad. She's real af and her practice is super-relatable and not all wishy-washy. We practice in the large & bright gym, or right outside. You can see the skyline from the fields! There are other community programs offered here for all ages, from dance classes for the kiddos, to walking groups, to zumba, to senior wellness classes. I've thought about renting the kitchen or craft room in the future for get-togethers. A potluck after hitting the waterpark would be make a swell summer day! That waterslide with the lights and music? Awesome! It's a one of a kind experience. Beyond the waterpark the playground was also great. It's not your average playground; it's big, well designed and has tons of opportunities for kids to explore and play. What really makes Shoreview Community Center stand out is the community. They offer so much more than just a pool and playground. From the fitness center to the skatepark they have created a space for all interests and ages. It's clear they have invested in making a valuable resource for everyone.

Bamboo Bay is much louder than the main pool area due to the fact it's more enclosed and there are sprayers with lots of water all over. The lifeguards do a great job of keeping their eyes on the kiddos cause it can get very very packed in both pool areas and kids of all different ages including adults too! The bathrooms and lockers are great and all facilities are pretty new and kept clean. I do love the spinner to spin clothes after swim time... As a side note, if you're like me and just hung out with other parents while the kiddos swam...it can get very very hot and humid so dress accordingly even in the winter time!

You can show up and work out for only $2.50 a visit (technically, it's $3 for non-residents, but they didn't check). There is a gym, fitness room, aerobics/dance room, and meeting rooms. The City of Chanhassen offers personal training and fitness classes too. The locker rooms and showers are basic, but new and clean. It's a small facility, tucked into the east side of Bluff Creek Elementary School, so it's not glamorous. No rows of flat screen tvs or monitors and MP3 connections on every treadmill. All the cardio and weight training equipment is located in one room, but the machines are new and well maintained. It seems pretty quiet in the evenings, so their having only 3 treadmills shouldn't be a problem. There are also several ellipticals and stationary bikes, a rowing machine and what looked like a very complete weight lifting circuit. Sure, the Eden Prairie Community Center, the YMCA or the numerous private fitness clubs are larger and have more amenities. But they're also crowded, pricey and usually want a commitment of variable duration. For $2.50 (or even $3) a visit, this is the best deal I've found.

It isn't Great Wolf Lodge, it is a manageable size, and has all the things you need - including nachos with the terrible but delicious cheese (that is so wrong yet so right). My kids like bouncing back and forth between the pool with the slides (a walk-in kind) and the lap pool nearby that is more your traditional pool. Prices are reasonable. Playground, basketball, volleyball, yoga, exercise equipment, etc. are all offered and more. But it is the lap pool and swimming I'm writing about that is so awesome. A lightly chlorinated pool. That's right. They have a different filtration method here using sphagnum moss which significantly reduces the amount of chlorine in the water. There is nothing better then getting out of a pool and NOT smelling like a chlorine tablet. Less burning of the eyes and itching of the skin. A win all around. Plus they open @ 6:30am some days for you early morning risers and open it up from 5:30-7pm on other days (see website for schedule). Plus if you got the toddlers and young kids, there is the water park, 2 water slides, and a shallow pool to get them acclimated. Me likey.
