WHSmith is a store you find on the high street in pretty much every UK town or city, this is pretty…read moremuch the typical WHSmith branch right next to the entry to St George's on Fishergate St in Preston city centre. The product range and prices are pretty much what one would expect from WHSmith, a little overpriced and the drinks selection seems lacking but the selection of newspapers and stationery is amongst the best in Preston centre, if you don't mind paying a little more. The store could be better maintained, a small refurb and improving the damaged flooring and lighting would work wonders. The store still seems a little dark and hasn't been renovated as fully as many other WHSmith stores. The store does shut at 17:30 Monday - Saturday, compared to a good number of other stores nearby that stay open until 18:00, It's a shame they do not open for this extra half an hour as they are already shutting quite early anyway. 3*

I must admit I'm not the greatest of book reader, but I do know when you readi a really good one, it's a fantastic experience.. I'm more into audio books now.. Yip I know ,,the easy and lazy way out. And if you have time to put down that best selling novel you can turn your reading to magazines, newspapers, booklets , Ohhh you name it they have it. Then there 's the other shelves,,, Yes the other shelves. The little more exciting shelves. Ummm let me see What I can buy ? A day on a Race Track, An Hot Air Ballooon Ride, Rock Concert Tickets, A day out having Mud plastered on your face. Or A set of Earphones, Computer Mouse, An exciting little machine to shred all of those old Love Letters and other pieces of private paper. These days, I only venture in now and again for something specific, like Reinhard Kleist's awesome graphic novel based on the life of Johnny Cash - I See A Darkness. For me, the layout and interior of Forbidden Planet lacks the ambience and wow factor of somewhere like Dave's Comics in Brighton but their range of comics, manga and graphic novels is faultless. For true fantatics and collectors, they also stock a massive range of cartoon, comic and pop culture memorabilia including tee-shirts, games, videos and toys. Personally, I have my eye on one of Frank Kozak's toy smoking rabbits complete with eye patch.
