st catherines hospice bookshop

Great for cheap second hand books especially good for childrens books. They have quite a lot of videos too which are only 30p each or 5 for a £1. My son loves nipping in here on his way home from school to spend his pocket money on a new treat while also supporting the charity at the same time. Its recently just had a revamp and extension so is now a lot more organised and spacious than it used to be.

The books in this shop are all donated from the public, they also accept DVDs, CDs, PC games and videos. Everything in the shop is of a high quality of standard and is sold for a reasonably cheap price. I highly recommend shopping at the St. Catharine' Hospice book shop as you are ensured to get a high quality, cheap product while supporting a good charity.
WH Smith Retail

WHSmith is a store you find on the high street in pretty much every UK town or city, this is pretty…read moremuch the typical WHSmith branch right next to the entry to St George's on Fishergate St in Preston city centre. The product range and prices are pretty much what one would expect from WHSmith, a little overpriced and the drinks selection seems lacking but the selection of newspapers and stationery is amongst the best in Preston centre, if you don't mind paying a little more. The store could be better maintained, a small refurb and improving the damaged flooring and lighting would work wonders. The store still seems a little dark and hasn't been renovated as fully as many other WHSmith stores. The store does shut at 17:30 Monday - Saturday, compared to a good number of other stores nearby that stay open until 18:00, It's a shame they do not open for this extra half an hour as they are already shutting quite early anyway. 3*

I really didn't like this branch as a whole, especially in comparison to other branches in the WHSmith chain, I found the branch a little bit messy at times, with things blocking the aisles at times. The overall selection of the store wasn't great, it made it easy for the store to crowd around certain areas such as the tills and entrance, so the store appeared to be much busier and crowded as it needed to be, and as well as the overall layout of the aisles etc, the store appeared to be a little bit of a mess. I also found the selection of drinks to be a little poor and I just found this store to be dissapointing in general, sadly warranting a single one-star rating.
