What an amazing place Paperchase is!!!!! I had never been in before and it was like an Aladdin's cave, super amazing crafts and a gorgeous espresso bar on the top floor. They sell awesome greetings cards, picture frames, notebooks to every coloured paper you could think of.It is set over 3 levels with hundreds of different things to browse through. Another great asset of this place are the staff, they are super friendly and fun! We was looking for a nice cool poster and a frame for our apartment and found two awesome retro posters which look really cool!!!

I had never set foot in a Paperchase store until very recently, mainly because I hadn't needed to plan a wedding until very recently, but I'd clearly been missing out - what an awesome shop! Whether you're looking for a new notebook or diary with a cute/fancy cover, a birthday card for a loved one, arty/crafty materials, a new pen, a book about photography or a stylish photo frame, Paperchase's vast selection will not disappoint. I've been in this branch of Paperchase several times now, seeking out the perfect materials for making our wedding stationery - there are so many different types of paper and card to choose from upstairs, it can be half an hour+ before I've decided what to buy. Staff are friendly and happy to offer their assistance, plus I got 15% off my next purchase the first time I bought something (a wedding planning scrapbook and wedding list book, yes I'm in danger of becoming Bridezilla). I will warn you though, things aren't cheap and you can probably get similar things from WH Smith but I guarantee they won't be as well designed and the paper won't be of the same quality. You get what you pay for, after all. I'm marrying a man but if I could marry a shop, it would have to be Paperchase.

If you like originality and top quality stationary, then Paperchase is the store for you! Known for its fresh and appealing products, the store has expanded all over the world to all stationary lovers. It is a quirky and imaginative business with products ranging from diaries all the way to ipod skins. They have matching themes which cover bags, books, umbrellas, stickers, pens, pencil cases and so on so that all you stationary matches and is perfectly coordinated. All needs are catered for such as art students who get discount, students who are returning to school and everyone else! They provide original greeting cards and gifts for your stationary friends. Don't worry if you can't get to one of the many stores you can shop on-line at their website or even on Amazon. So when the time comes when you need new diaries or school supplies, try Paperchase for rare products that will make any person jealous!

Paperchase is quite a large brand of stores, specializing in stationary, this is quite an impressive, large store and one of their three flagship stores in the UK, alongside London and Glasgow, Paperchase are quite a big brand with 130 store in the UK and 30 across the rest of Europe, including France and Germany, and also the middle east. I called in here today, to have a look at lever arch folders, after having a disaster with a good 8-9 of the products I had bought for £4.99 each from Whsmith had broke, and I had got sick and tired of just replacing them, the lever arches here seemed very good quality and nicer than the Whsmith ones as well as being cheaper too at £3 each. The prices seemed cheaper especially for folders, meanwhile Ryman charge £3.99 and Whsmith charge £4.99, who all have stores nearby, but it is worth nothing Whsmith sell lower quality goods for higher prices and both stores mentioned have 3 for 2 deals. This store is huge, even the first floor of three seemed really nice, with a great selection of all things stationary, mostly from the Paperchase brand, including nice, different size and color envelopes for gifts, they seemed to stock a few gifts, and cards which was good too. The staff seemed nice at the till as well, and I was pleased with a selection of colors for the lever arch including a nice white one, I am yet to discover at either WHsmith or Ryman, who I normally buy folders from. This is a nice store, and based on my first visit, I think it has done enough to deserve 4 stars and i am pleased to say this has set high expectations for the rest of the Paperchase brand, despite this being a flagship store for them in the North of England. UPDATE: Ever since the refurbishment of the store, the layout has become much more confusing and difficult for example not everything is in one place now, and it is often hard to find certain things, which would make it harder to find something in the rush, and there now seems to be less staff on the shop floor to raise a hand, the lever arch quality is very good designed by Paperchase, having had problems with similar products where I have had probably over 10 which broken from WHsmith, and around 6 from Ryman, out of 5 folders I have bought from Paperchase, only one has broke which gives them the "most favorable" quality rating, most of their products do seem okay but a few just seem to be junk, clutter and filling up a big store, I can't help but feel I was in awe of the size and magnitude of this store originally and now feel they have to sink back to reality, with a low three star rating. UPDATE: Slight decrease in the standard of customer service, and even product selection so sadly a downgraded rating to a two-star rating is due.

Lots of very over-priced gimmicky stationary. I'm not quite sure I see the point of most of the items they sell. Everything appears to be reduced from a previous higher price but is still expensive. Perhaps a good place for an unusual or random gift. There's also Tinderbox coffee shop on the upper floor.

Fantastic store for art materials. While it can be a bit pricy as you get carried away chucking stuff into your basket that you never intended on buying particularly the fantastic papers, acrylic sets and lovely bound sketch books on the top floor. Great for art students of all ages or if you've a crafty project. One stop shop definitely if you're making wedding/party stationary. The first floor sells posh pens and office themed gifts and such which I tend to bypass. While the ground floor is devoted much to bright modern cards, pens of all descriptions and tacky but fun plastic gifts and stationary. Excellent selection of quirky Christmas decorations and lovely charity packs of Christmas cards still with bright imagery and neon plastic trees nearer the festive season and dare I say, a great stop in January for the sales. I wouldn't buy my party gear (table sprinkles, poppers, balloons etc) here as they are well over priced and come in ridiculously small quantities, though having said that the wedding stuff and mini sparklers look great. It's tradition that I buy my new diary for the year here as they last a years bashing in my handbag unlike others. Great products which sell themselves. The staff are friendly at the till but great at getting you cashed up and out the door promptly before anything else catches your eye. They always have fantastic window displays.

There is a cute coffee shop that sells the usual tea, coffee, cake and small plates so it's perfect for a coffee and a browse. Fun Fact: Back in the day this used to be the local fish market, the original features including the tiles still remain in tact. On some days I swear you can smell residual fishiness but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me!

When I first happened upon this place by…read moreaccident, thankfully after I'd hauled Lex G all over the Northern Quarter in an attempt to locate Teacup she still had the energy to spot this gorgeous, adorable building and say, 'What's that?' Me being the investigative yelper that I am said, 'I have no idea. Let's have a look.' Thank goodness we did, because I thought places like this only existed in small towns, at Cedar Farm (a beautiful little crafts-driven farm with shops in Mawdesley that I highly recommend... ahh, my rural homeland radius) or in Brighton. Literally, I felt like I'd stepped into somewhere along the seafront in my brother's resident city, because the last time I saw open studios and handmade jewellery for sale, I was indeed in that picturesque place by the sea. From the outside the building is pretty, but when you walk in it really takes your breath away. Delightful little exhibitions, artists at work... I instantly made a mental note to bring mothers here, mine or in-law, the next time they're in Manchester as they love places like this. The centre has such a lovely quaint feel to it, and goodness me, tranquil? I couldn't have felt more tranquil had you tipped a load of Kalms tablets down my throat and given me a Slanket and a chocolate Horlicks. And whether you're naturally a chilled out person or slightly neurotic and over-organised like myself, no doubt walking in here will instil in you a sense of calm that you'll struggle to find anywhere else in Manchester. The work for sale is exceptional, and I myself was instantly attracted to the wall hangings comprising of collages of iconic Manchester photographs, such as street signs, buildings, bands, restaurants and so forth. I could have stayed in here for hours. You're bound to come home with something special and unique here gifts-wise. Cafe Aromat has its own website and looks absolutely mouthwatering, so I promise that when we pop in again I'll get some munch there and let you know how it is. I know, I suffer for my art don't I. *Winks.*

If you ever take a ride on a bus, you are bound to overhear little old ladies rant on about: A) the…read moreprice of a good piece of tongue ( cow tongue from the butcher's you mucky lot) and B) the lack of haberdashers any more. They obviously haven't discovered Bon Fabrics in Urmston Town Centre- perhaps one of the last of a dying breed. This is a proper material shop where reams of cotton and voile are cut to order in front of your very eyes. And there are buttons!! Now, buttons are the bane of my life; I don't know why but if there is a button around, you can guarantee that it will pop off in my presence. Maybe I am the David Blaine of the haberdashery world? Perhaps I just magic them off clothes by mind control and without laying one manicured finger on them. Well whatever it is , I ALWAYS need buttons and Bon Fabrics comes to my rescue. There is something strangely comforting about standing around yards of fabric and bales of wool. It might be a latent repressed memory of being a contented baby stuffed into home- made matinee jackets and bootees by my talented Aunty Joyce. Who knows? It is certainly not my intention to patronise the older generation at all. Knitting is now a Hollywood craze and a birdie tells me that Gwyneth is a bit partial to a knit one pearl one. Bon Fabrics does not just cater to those in the twilight of their lives, it has a whole array of fancy-dress outfits for children and adults. You can barely move in this shop at Christmas and Easter time when harassed mothers are forced to make outfits for their little darlings' school plays and Easter Bonnet Parades. I particularly like Bon Fabrics at Halloween when my inner vamp ( or vampire) starts bearing its fangs. Whether I require a wig, facepaints or other accessories, this shop will have it. Service can be quite slow as the ladies who run the shop like to give their undivided attention to their customers for as long as it takes, and no disrespect, but it CAN take a long time. This can be a touch frustrating when all you need to buy is a yard of ribbon for 50p. I would not say that the owners are brimming over with amicability either. They are serious sewers who rarely crack a smile. However, I have returned here again and again- well I always need buttons. P.S. try saying haberdashery when you have had a few drinks- I seem to say have a daiquiri. Odd that!

I've been visiting this place for ages, even if it's just to browse through the store and short list future gifts. I've recently acquired some American Film Making/Studies from there (the Steven D. Katz shot by shot/cinematic motion - books that are usually pretty hard to get hold of unless you're on the net. This is one of those places where the staff know what they're talking about and can help either find what you're looking for or influence you enough to take a punt on their own expertly led recommendations in the vast array of different books and magazines in this store (increasingly rare in the accountant led 'United Chaindom'). It's a shame many more shops were as enthusiastic and passionate as the folks behind magma...I know they can't all be this way but it's currently unfairly balanced. One large chain book store dominates now (and with unfortunately less choice, more celebrity led airport reading fodder) and with supermarkets getting in the act of the book market (albeit with a truly disturbing 'array' of 'books') we should be thankful that places like this are still open in our cities. A large section of this shop sells magazines which are more like the aforementioned coffee table books the higher echelon of mags if you will. Film, Architecture, Typography, Illustration, Photography, Graphics, Fashion, Art, Design, Cities all these creative acts and scenarios collude together in the books and magazine range. They sell a top mag called 'Specialten' which is a 'bi-monthly collection of short films, music videos and exclusive interviews' which comes with a DVD for the media. Just reminded myself to pick up the next edition as I type this... This shop (alongside one or two in London village possibly the other two Magma's as it happens) was the only such store to stock Daniel Johnstone's graphics/drawings books (and as such is referred to in the fantastic Daniel Johnstone documentary). Reanimate your creative synapses and spare at least half an hour to imbibe the glorious fractions of the arts world we don't see as much as we should. It's always a pleasure to walk into a store like this, find what you're looking for (or see something jump out at you which grabs your interest by the book ends) and after downpiping your debit/credit details into the 21st Century piggy bank walk from the shop, freshly acquired book in hand. Rifling through the pages of a new 'Ilva Table book' in a nearby boozer/café is one of life's great, small pleasures.
