Loved the spot and set up, very pretty location and outdoor vibe. The draft meads were all sooo good, especially the habanero mango. And happy dance for the food, the fried green beans and pizza with truffle crust were amazing!! Added bonus that there was live music when we were there to make it more fun. Just a few downsides... on a summer day the picnic tables are in full sun even with umbrellas and there is no free water, only bottled. Also when we were there it wasn't busy but the waitresses that came to the table weren't super friendly and didn't tell us an 18% gratuity was already added to our bill for a party of 7, so we tipped an extra 20% on top of that and they were aware bc we were talking about it while they were waiting for payment. I went to St. Ambrose Cellars with 4 others. We order several different things off the menu, both food and drink. Our food included 3 different pizzas, a couple entree salads, and a cheese burger and fries. All was very good. As for the drinks we ordered 4 flights of the alcoholic beverages which includes meads, hard ciders, and beers. Overall we liked most of the drinks and those we didn't like were because of personal tastes. The entertainment was a singer. He sang a large variety of music including different styles and formats. He put his own twist on all the songs he sang. Finally the atmosphere was wonderful. You had a choice of picnic tables on the lawn or under a porch. Better yet they had a food truck with great pizzas and a live band playing. What's unique is that they have beer, wine, and mead and let you mix and match your flights...and there are so many great options. We visited on a snowy day and booked an igloo when they first opened. We ordered 2 flights and got a pizza. The mead and cyser was really tasty and it was a nice space. Their large patio has heaters at every table and the staff was quick and checked on us enough. There was plenty of parking and I can see this place being amazing in the warmer months. The holiday decorations were beautiful. The pizza we got was with the hot honey and sausage and it came quick and was a great pairing with the mead. Coming from a different state with mask mandates, it was strange to not see staff wearing masks. But that is Michigan for you I guess. Still really happy we stopped by since it is near my sister's house. I did buy a bottle of the thistle mead and 2 cans of the apple pie in a glass to drink later. This place is awesome. I have yet to see what their off season set up is like, but the summer set up is perfect. Tons of outdoor seating with tables and chairs, all spread out across the lawn. They have a bocce ball court out back. The drink menu is quite expansive-- beer, cider, mead, wine. There's something for everyone! The Castaway cider (pina colada flavored) is my favorite summer find. So refreshing, not too sweet. The food truck is pretty great, too, and they did have a veg option (pulled jackfruit sammy!). read more

We had a great experience! We got there right when they opened at noon. You can eat outside or in the patio. We chose the patio due to wind and bugs. Tip - they allow dogs when you eat outside. They also had some yard games that were open to everyone. There is such a focus on supporting local. The soda pop they have is made in Williamsburg, the beers are all there's, and they use meat from a local farm, which shows as my daughter said it was the best burger she ever had. All the food was good! In addition to burgers, our table had the fish basket with fries, black bean burger and truffle fries. It was all very tasty and filling. Our flight of beer included four. Perfect spot for a quick liquor fix. The igloos are pretty and big. The servers make sure they clean the igloo well before sitting the next guests. We have been really COVID cautious, so we were a bit worried about finding great experiences, food and drinks while on vacation near Frankfort, but this place offered all three. First off, it is beautiful and relaxing. The pizza truck offered an amazing variety of wood fired goodness. The drinks though were the best part. I am so glad we stopped here! Busy place, and I can understand why! There was a food truck outside too, really convenient. Most of us ordered flights, instead of the $10, it was on sale for $8. I'm not sure for how long. We then found out that one of their good wines was also on sale for $6. I think our group ended up buying about 10 bottles, plus a bunch of the XR Cyzer. That was delicious, hints of honey and apple and I believe cinnamon. Even my friend that doesn't like wine actually liked that one and she even bought a bottle! The XR Cizer was $6 and 16.9 ounces. The Wild Ginger Mead is the highlight of St Ambrose for me! Wow, what an amazing flavor. I do love ginger though, so I would say you have to go into trying this mead if you like ginger. If you don't like ginger you won't like the mead. A couple other shining starts were the Razz!, the Black Madonna and the Pumpkin Mean. I will say the Razz! is pretty dang sweet, so if you love sweet then the Razz! is your jam... or should I say mead ;-) I love that they have their meads on draft, such a great way to drink some mead. I tried a couple of the beers and they were okay. I would definitely go to St Ambrose again for the mead. The taproom isn't very big so it can feel pretty crowded pretty fast, especially when the weather is kinda crappy and it is difficult to sit outside. The building is pretty special with its layout and the stained glass... did it used to be a church? Saturday night when we were there, there was a band playing. Three ladies singing to cover songs-hippie songs and classics. I was confused why we didn't get the music flight price though, even though we were there after 6pm... Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area though! read more

As a long-standing fan of the mead and cysers St Ambrose distributes to lower Michigan, I was finally able to visit this little slice of heaven over the weekend. St Ambrose is my new happy place. A gorgeous, unpretentious spot in the middle of nowhere. Perfect for a flight on the back patio with good company. Food truck was on site while I visited, bartenders were fantastic, board games and playing cards available. Sooo... this place is the bomb on a beautiful Michigan afternoon. They focus on mead but have a nice brewing arm and also sell a lot of wine. 9 of us (8 and a baby) hit it in a Sunday afternoon. They have flights where you can sample 4 of anything 10 dollars and it is tremendous value and delightful. They look like 4oz pours. Great charcuterie and they also had a pizza trick. We went to St Abrose 2 hours before close on a Saturday in September. Luckily we weren't hungry because there was a sign that said the wait for food was 2 hours. The music was still going and there were open seats in the lawn we were excited to sit at since we brought our dog. But we were told we had to sit on the concrete patio because it was getting dark soon. Sitting there gave a view of how inefficiently the kitchen and service was being run. There was one lady working hard on the grill making sandwiches and 2 people making pizzas - one would take 5 minutes tossing each crust, and the other just took pizzas in and out of the oven and did nothing in between. Meanwhile the servers are having to run around the huge premise taking drink orders. This place could be great if they implemented a more efficient counter ordering system and sit where you want, with a better prepped kitchen to make way more money. Sadly we were underwhelmed with the ciders, they are all on the very sweet and fruity side. We prefer the ciders at Lake Ann brewing. read more

St. Ambrose is just one of those really special places. It's the quintessential countryside winery, complete with a red barn adjacent to the tasting room. Beyond solid ambiance, the wine--a main attraction for eager for grape aficionados--is quality. I recommend the Cabernet Franc. This winery is definitely more "on the map" than it used to be. As a result, the crowds were higher during my last visit (yesterday). Also, St. Ambrose now has beer and a food truck as options. This may not be problematic, but I wouldn't want such a charming location to morph from its roots for the simple sake of offering more. I absolutely love visits here while vacationing at my family's lake house. It should be a "must go" place for you, too! read more

3.5 Stars. This place was beautiful. They have so many options as far as beer, wine, cider, mead that I had to do two flights so that I could try everything that I wanted to. The grounds are relaxing and beautiful on a hot summer day and the staff was very nice. They had a food truck out front and unfortunately they were out of multiple things when I ordered- slaw for the fish tacos and also the homemade salsa. I am hoping that it was because it was around the 4th of July holiday. My favorite thing there was the cinnamon cider. There was nothing that I chose to fill a growler with or to purchase because besides that cider there was nothing that I felt I had to have again. I'm hoping to visit again this summer and to have an even better experience so I can update my review to 4 stars. read more

The disc golf course is hard but fun. The wine is super tasty and the ambience is super cute. Minus one star because we ordered the poutine and it was hands down the worst poutine we've ever had. Canned Luke warm gravy poured over chuncks of white cheese that were cold. We don't know how much wine we'd have to drink for that to be good. read more
