I had been going to Dr Granite since the 1970's, and when he retired I was very sad, but continued…read morecontinued on with the new owner of the Practice. After seeing some of the new Doctors, I finally settled on seeing Dr Polam, who is a wonderful, caring Doctor, much the same as was Dr. Granite. I had been seeing her, and was extremely happy in her care. Then one day I received a letter from HMS Medical Group stating she was no longer with their practice. It said she had relocated to Clinton, Maryland, which is too far for me to drive to still see her. I was very upset, but became even more upset when another patient said that she was still in Greenbelt at Southern Maryland Medical Group right across the street! I felt betrayed by HMS for conveniently leaving out the fact that she was also still in Greenbelt. I feel as do other patients I have run into that this was done just to keep us with them, and have us believe she just up and left us! I made an appointment with her at the new Office, and was happy to see how relaxed and happy she was in her new environment. She is now able to give more of her time to her patients, which didn't seem to be the case at HMS. I filled out paperwork to have my records sent to the new office, and was shocked today when I received a bill in the mail for $68.84 for HMS to copy and send my records over to Dr Polam. I am almost 70 years old, and have NEVER had to pay to have records transferred from one Doctor to another. I would not recommend this kind of treatment to anyone! A Doctor can be very good, but honesty, and integrity are very important qualities to me, and unfortunately the new owner does NOT follow in Dr Granite's footsteps in this respect! I never thought I would have to move to a different practice, but I have, and am extremely happy to do so.

HMS Medical Group has an office with cardiologist and an office with internist. This review is…read morerelated to experience with Dr. Anderson, internal medicine doctor. I can write a lot of letters (and I rarely care to write reviews) but I already wasted a lot of time on this practice and want to make sure others are warned. In short, we saw this doctor in 2015 and again in 2020 (realizing too late that its the same office we decided not to return to), both times the same if not worse experience - long wait times (30-40 minutes before you are taken for vitals, then another 10-15 minutes for actual doctor to see you), multiple patients have appointment for the same time as you, entire office can walk off minutes before your appointment, their main concern is to ensure they collect your deductible, even if its physical and insurance covers it fully (they will still attempt). We felt like Dr. Anderson did not respect us or our time. When we brought up the concern with the wait time, we received very theatrical apology with offer to get on the knees and statement that its her office and she runs it. I spent more time in the hallway waiting than being examined. If a patient has audacity to ask questions about why certain pills are prescribed or why certain symptoms didn't go away from the last visit, Dr Anderson takes it as attack on her professional judgement and makes unprofessional comments. I dont think they care much about what patients like us think as there are plenty of Medicare, Medicaid patients to continue build practice on. Sad reality . . .

TL;DR This is the most incompetently managed doctor's office I have ever had the misfortune of…read morefrequenting. They wasted an astronomical amount of my time. The only positive thing I can say about it is that the staff themselves are polite and pleasant in interactions. And thank GOD I have an understanding workplace, because I ended up wasting an entire morning every time I had to return here for an appointment. I'm sure lots of other people are not so lucky. When I was 13 weeks pregnant, I was diagnosed with a slight arrhythmia via echocardiogram. They wish to do some follow-up tests to ensure it was not too serious and would not create complications during my pregnancy. I was well into my 3rd trimester before they finally finished those tests. Every time I went to this office, I waited at least 45 minutes past my appointment time, even though I was usually one of the first patients of the day, and then would wait an additional 20 minutes after my appointment before I could see anyone about scheduling my next appointment. I understand that busy offices get behind, but when they are consistently 45 minutes "behind" first thing in the morning...there's a special kind of incompetence happening somewhere. First attempt: picked up monitor. Waited a long time before and after appointment to have monitor placed and follow-up scheduled. Returned monitor. Returned for follow-up, usual long wait, only to be informed that the machine had only recorded 45 minutes and we would have to try again. I ask if I will be charged for the re-attempt; they say no. Second attempt: Picked up monitor. Same long wait times. Return monitor. Go in for follow-up. They attempt to charge me. I argue, they eventually figure it out. I finally get called back. They inform me that this time, the monitor only recorded 15 minutes. They told me then that this had been a recurring issue with their heart monitors, and they were working on getting new machines in. Which I can understand, but if this has been a recurring issue, why on EARTH would you not be checking the tests as they come in to see if they actually recorded anything, before having patients show up for their follow-ups? Sent me out for another long waiting period before scheduling me for a 3rd time, this time a month out so their new machines would be available for me to use. 3rd attempt: They call me when I'm halfway to their office. They do not have a machine available and need to reschedule. 4th attempt: Another long wait. The return date is tricky for me because of my work schedule so I ask what is the latest I can return the monitor. Nurse tells me 5:30. This is later than their normal hours. I clarify, "5:30 pm?" and she says yes. This time the wait to schedule the follow-up is so long, and I have other appointments to keep, that I finally stand up and inform them I need to leave. They are suddenly able to schedule my follow-up. I attempt to return the heart monitor on the specified date at 5:15pm. The door is closed. Locked. The office is empty. I call the office, intending to leave a message so they at least have a record that I returned on the day and at a time they told me I could. Their office does not have an answering machine. I return first thing the next business day to return the monitor. The staff seems baffled that I was told I could return the heart monitor after 5. Fortunately I am not charged. We're up to 9 total trips now, because each test takes at least 3: pick up monitor, return monitor, follow-up. The day before my final follow-up I call the office and ask them to check my chart to see if I have results. The nurse says "We would have called you to reschedule if the test failed." As if I'm stupid. The only reason I called was precisely because they DID NOT CHECK THE OTHER TWO TIMES. 10th and final trip: They try to charge me again. I argue. It takes a long time but they finally figure it out. I get my results. They offer to print me out a copy so I can give it to my OB. I accept. I wait. They finally call me forward to...schedule a follow-up in a year to check on the arrhythmia. I ask again for a print-out of my records. They give them to me. I leave. I will go see another cardiologist in a year to check on my heart but I am never coming back here.
