Finished my package (3 sessions) for laser hair removal of my lower legs. Tina and Molly were the two that did my treatments for the different appointments. Both were really great! The rooms and waiting areas were clean. The staff were friendly and always accommodating if I needed to reschedule my appointment. For my consultation, you complete a series of documents such as medical history and so on. On your appointment time, you'll meet with the nurse who discussed with you on what area you wish to have hair removal, costs, and process. They will give you a prescription for lidocane which you will put on the area that will be laser. It was much appreciated to have it on my legs in the area of my legs that were sensitive which was mainly the bony areas. An hour before your appointment, you apply the cream and wrap in plastic wrap. Once you arrive for your appointment, they will put you in a room and give you a towel to wipe off the cream. They will exam your skin & hair and determine which setting will be appropriate for you. The process for laser hair removal on my legs was quick- approximately 30 or less minutes. After they are done, they will offer aloe and send you on your way. I am pleased with my results. I am not shaving my legs everyday like I was doing. read more

I've been coming to Laser Center of Maryland for a little over two years now. When I began my journey into getting lip fillers, I had gone to a different facility where my lips were absolutely botched. I couldn't leave my house they were so awful. I decided to try LC of MD and have never looked back! I have now had lip fillers by both Dr. V and Dr. M, and they are both excellent at injectables! They take their time and make you feel very comfortable if your anxious about needles and only proceed when you're 100% ready. You are offered a dental block so you don't feel a thing (this is a HUGE difference compared to the topical numbing cream only). I've never had any issues with post-procedure care. Of course you will look very swollen the first couple days afterwards, but everything pretty much settles to final results in about a week. Everyone heals differently, so results can vary. For me, the added bonus is that the staff are all very friendly. It can be intimidating or a huge turn off if you're new to cosmetic procedures, and the frontline staff (receptionists) are rude or dismissive. You won't find that at LC of MD! I'm very critical when judging customer service, as I've definitely experienced my fair share of mistreatment. The staff at LC of MD are excellent! read more

I had a VBeam Perfecta Pulse-Dye Laser treatment in the fall of 2019. I decided to write a review now that I realize how outrageous the prices they charge here are. Dr. VanAntwerp charged me $950 for one session of the VBeam Perfecta; after calling around to other places in the Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia area, I learned that one session of a VBeam laser typically costs $400-$500. It was disappointing to realize that I had tremendously overpaid, especially when the procedure was such a negative experience. In addition to the prices, I felt Dr. VanAntwerp did a poor job with bedside manner. During the consultation appointment, when explaining that the side effects of the laser might include some bruising, Dr. VanAntwerp joked "If people ask what happened to your face, just say that you're trying to learn how to listen to your husband better". This joke about domestic violence was in extremely poor taste and enforces a culture of misogyny and victim-blaming. I wrote it off as a "one-time" mistake, perhaps a slip of the tongue, and decided to make an treatment appointment anyway. However, on the day of the treatment appointment, Dr. VanAntwerp made the same joke again! I feel this says something deeply problematic about his character and who he is as a person. Additionally, Dr. VanAntwerp is an internal medicine doctor, not a board certified dermatologist, yet he routinely performs these invasive cosmetic dermatological treatments. After telling my regular dermatologist about my laser treatment and experience, he warned me to stay away from places that allow non-dermatologists to operate lasers and other potentially dangerous treatments. Overall, it was experience that left me uncomfortable and unsatisfied. I can't speak for Dr. Jared Mallalieu or surgical treatments, but I would emphatically suggest that you stay away from Dr. VanAntwerp for any laser or cosmetic dermatological treatments. read more

Tattoo Removal- African American Skin Tone I started my search online for a professional tattoo removal center in 2007 that would leave little to no scarring on my skin tone (African American). I stumbled upon the Laser Center of Maryland. I came in for a free consultation and met with multiple staff members one on one. The price was based on the size and professionalism of the tattoo. They offered me a laser removal package that would fit the need to fully remove my tattoo. Because I love Yelp so much, I have posted pictures of before and after pictures of my laser removal sessions. Yes ! I was dumb and had my name tattooed on my lower back :( but I wanted to only remove my name (black ink). Horrible so called "Tattoo Removal Treatment"! I have a 12 year old simple black tattoo on my arm. I started my tattoo removal treatment in September of last year. I paid $600.00 for my 1st tattoo removal treatment. Then I bought a package of 6 tattoo removal treatments for $2,240.00, totalling almost $3,000.00. I finished all of my treatments, followed all of the after-care instructions and I am left with a tattoo that is slightly faded. This was one of the worst experiences in my life! The before and after pictures that you see on the Laser Center of Maryland's website are not a true reflection (in any sense) of what you will receive. Laser Center of Maryland is my go-to destination for cosmetic treatments! I suffered from severe dark spots and hyper pigmentation for years. However 3 treatments of the Focus laser (spread out over 1 year) completely removed nearly all traces of blemishes, and cleared any active acne. I tried Coolsculpting for a small bulge on my lower abdomen, in addition to the Focus laser. The procedure was very relaxing, and quick! I'm giving them 5 Stars, which is rare of me to do on any review. This a family run practice, well trained staff and extremely friendly facility. Most people have a fear of pain and with tattoo removal you'll experience different levels of pain any where else. The doctors here assure the highest level of comfort. They take their time making sure the treat area has been properly numbed before treatment. Their efforts are so high that I didn't feel a thing during the treatments more the some slight levels of discomfort for maybe 2 seconds. Kudos to this location and practice. I had cellusmooth done here---a relatively new procedure. The front desk staff was great and Dr. Mallaleu was WONDERFUL. He had great bedside manner and a great sense of humor. The procedure was a bit more invasive then I had expected but my follow ups were wonderful and they answered every question I had. My legs look so much better---nothing is ever perfect, but I can certainly tell a difference, Now I have gone back for artefil with AMY who did a fabulous job. My cheeks are plumper but I don't look 'fake' She even said I could come back and get touch ups without paying for them within the first month or so. Carla is the patient manager and returned every phone call in a timely manner. Now, is there some staff members who leave something to be desired, yes...but that is typical of any place. Went in for a free consultation and was very happy with the information I was given as well as the level of customer service. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. The doctor provided me with the information I asked for and allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed to understand each option. However, from their laser technicians to their surgeons, I have found no other practice to be as professional and accommodating as Laser Center of Maryland. A big old "DO NOT GO". i went in to inquire about laser hair removal and was quickly talked into $5000 worth of treatments. They included Exilis/Skin Tyte to tighten the skin on my abdomen. 6 treatments later and absolutely NO change. They conveniently "forgot" to take before pictures. Miradry to reduce underarm sweating - I can't say enough negatives about this but aside from the intense pain and swelling - it has had absolutely no effect. And laser hair removal - while it worked to some extent...I was told I'd need 3 treatments and as soon as those were finished...I was told in reality I'd need 6 and no one has results after 3. I repeatedly consulted with the cosmetic surgeon who basically said "well, it doesn't work on everyone"...for pretty much everything I had done. Might as well just set fire to your money instead because they do not stand by anything they do. read more

When my husband and I went for a consult for a service, the Dr. explained that the service that my husband wanted would not be an appropriate solution for him. Read This Before You Go To the Laser Center of MD. BAIT & SWITCH! 10/9/2015: This is a response to the Laser Center of MD's recent reply to my husband's review of my daughter's MiraDry procedure. The Laser Center stated in part "We offered it for $1595.00 throughout the summer as a special introductory price for one treatment at higher energy settings." THEIR REPLY IS THE FIRST TIME THAT ANYONE FROM THE CENTER HAS COME CLOSE TO ADMITTING THAT THEY DID NOT PERFORM A LEVEL 5 TREATMENT ON MY DAUGHTER. THIS IS A TRUE BAIT & SWITCH!! When my daughter received the treatment we were told that she was receiving level 5 treatment. During her follow-up the next week the doctor that spoke with us also stated that she received a level 5 treatment. He showed me the handwritten medical notes from the technician that performed the treatment on my daughter. The fact that my daughter started sweating within a week was an immediate sign that she did not receive the level 5 treatment that I was told that she received. The Laser Center's recent reply to my husband's review is the very first time that anyone from the Laser Center came close to admitting that she did not receive level 5 treatment. No one ever told me or my husband that higher energy levels were used during the summer only. In fact during my treatment in April I was told that the Laser Center was the first center of its kind to pioneer the approach of performing a level 5 treatment as the first treatment for MiraDry. NO ONE EVER SAID THAT THIS WAS A TEMPORARY APPROACH. Dr. Antwerp and the nurse that performed my treatment told me that because of their pioneering approach most of their patients only needed one treatment. My guess is that the Laser Center was losing money because of the successful results of performing the very first treatment at level 5. They likely decided to reduce the level of the initial treatment to guarantee the return of patients for follow-up treatments. The fact that they changed their approach to performing MiraDry is not my issue. MY issue is that the Laser Center told me one thing and sold me something completely different. THIS IS A TRUE BAIT & SWITCH! ******************************************************************************************************************** My wife had the MiraDry procedure at the Laser Center of Maryland in April of 2015. She loves her results. We took our 12-year old daughter for the same thing in August and the experience was TERRIBLE at best. #1-Contrary to their published policy on deposits they demanded that I leave a deposit of 50% of the cost of the procedure in order to book an appointment. My wife called them from work to inquire about this new policy and why it was different than what they describe on their website. They said that the policy was new, but yet 2 months later their website has not changed. #2- They published a coupon for $400 then increased the cost of the MiraDry procedure by $400. My wife paid $1575 for the procedure in April. Yet in August they wanted to charge us $1999 for my 12-year old daughter. They told us that $1999 was the regular price for the procedure and that the price my wife paid was the result of an April special. Special pricing was never mentioned during my wife's consultation. #3 We paid $1595 for my daughter to have the procedure in August. She began sweating within days of the procedure. We returned to the center for a follow-up asking for proof that my daughter received a level 5 treatment. We were told that the only proof available was the technician's handwritten notes. The doctor offered to perform another treatment on my daughter for approx $1300. No thank you Laser Center of Maryland. We will take this up with the BBB and our credit card company. Two months later our daughter is sweating and as if she never had MiraDry. Ok so truthfully, If you arent going to commit to a series of laser sessions, do not waste your $500 doing laser on your elbows lol. I had to add bleach to them to get lighten them up. Maybe the combination of laser and bleach made them lighter. Maybe I am looking for the genie of the laser center to grant me my wish-not going to happen. The bleach made somewhat of a difference, but unless you go back for more laser which you might, you will be stuck with bleaching. It was worth a try. read more
