I'm delighted to write this recommendation for Squish Gym. My journey started about a year ago when I herniated a disk in my lower back from squatting an overhead bar. Simple tasks like walking and standing soon became extremely painful. Also, I had to deal with mental and physical battles of not practicing my favorite sport surfing. I was recommended Squish through an old friend and decided to give it a go. The trainer and owner Alex dedicated so much time and effort into my mechanics. He prepared custom programs to my injury and helped me see significant process after four weeks. He also correctly my form countless number of times which made a huge difference. The gym's friendly environment made it so easy to show up consistently and get to "pumping it without pain." I think the owner, Alex, means well, but my last interactions with him left a really bad taste. To start, be seemed perturbed that I was "asking a lot of questions" during my few interactions with him. I was dealing with a rather severe injury and naturally was cautious about any potentially prescribed exercises, and it almost felt like he took my questions personally. Moreover, when I reached back out to schedule a session after an extended break, he asked me if I was ready to get back to work and suggested that I adhere to our usual 3x schedule. I told him this no longer fit my budget and, sure enough, he suddenly told me his schedule was booked until end of august and that he'd reach out afterwards. Alex is the smartest trainer I've ever worked with, and his gym has pristine, high quality equipment that I haven't found at other gyms. His prices are very affordable for one-on-one personal training or group personal training- I still get so much one-on-one attention in the groups and I am able to lift more than I ever expected safely with Alex's help. I have an autoimmune disease and have always struggled with exercise and inflammation, but Alex has a Master's Degree in Immunology and is able to train me in a way that improves my health issues rather than aggravating them. He is also helping me correct a lot of form issues and overcome old injuries and I am so excited to continue training with him. I have been going to physical therapy for years because of hip pain, and it would always get better for day or two...then come right back. It was a constant struggle that stopped me from being able to go on hikes, run, or just have a normal day pain free. It got to a point where it was starting to affect my work as I have a job where I have to stand all day. I decided to join Squish as a way to get myself in shape, but after the first consultation with Alex I felt so much hope for my hip to be better - he told me he could help! I had served the armed forces for 6 years and had to be medically discharged because of the constant back pain that I've had the passed 3-4 years after injuring it on my first deployment. I've done everything that they had to offer to help with my back, chiro, ball rolling, "massaging" ( not like the one you're thinking), acupuncture, and steroid injections but it seemed inevitable and I was always going to have this pain. Even doing simple tasks like taking care of my kids and just walking with them for a certain time seemed to aggravate the pain. This past Christmas I visited southern Cali to be with my family for the holidays and my dad told me about a trainer that helped his best friend with his ankle pain that he had for the passed two years. I told my dad that I'll try anything at this point, but I was still a little skeptical especially since I've gone to a bunch of doctors and physical therapists about my back pain and the #1 answer I would get was "stretch"... I made an appointment to meet with Alex trying to keep an open mind about what he had to offer. When I had my first session with Alex and told him everything that was going on, he knew what to do at that point. I did specific exercises that would benefit me and help levitate the pain. Everything he was telling me to do helped 100%. I honestly didn't know that there was so much to think about when you are working out at the gym. He was very informative on why there was pain and how to correct it. I booked another 3 sessions with him because I wanted to keep up with the routine that help with my back.
