Doing a quick Yelp search, CJ Sewing popped up as one of the top rated alterations establishments in Elk Grove. I immediately scheduled an appointment for the following day. Since I was in such a frenzy, I totally overlooked the instructions in Ms. Jackson's (business owner) appointment confirmation email (the email states that you should bring a long sleeve shirt, a belt, and dress shoes if you're having a suit altered). When I showed up to the establishment, I was warmly greeted by Ms. Jackson and her cute furry friend- Sir Winston. As fate would have it, my suit jacket did not require altering; therefore, the belt and dress shoes that I had on were sufficient. Ms. Jackson is definitely a wealth of knowledge and respectfully shared with me that the slim fit suit pants that I had were not appropriate for my athletic build (slim waist & thick quads). However, she walked me through the alterations that she would make that would complement my physique. On the expected pickup date, Ms. Jackson informed me that she would need additional time and could drop the pants off to me later that afternoon . This was not a problem considering that I dropped the pants off at the last minute. Also, I really appreciated her communication. As promised, Ms. Jackson dropped the pants off and they were a perfect fit. Thank you CJ Sewing!

I tried CJ Sewing because of the positive Yelp reviews, but unfortunately my experience was very…read moredifferent. I brought in my maid-of-honor dress for my sister's destination wedding. The color was discontinued, so I asked about adding a corset back and a hem. I was quoted over $375 for those alterations. When I asked about a first-responder discount (because my fiancé is one), she responded by asking whether he was the one with the dress. The comment felt dismissive of the impact first-responder life has on a whole family. I then asked about a graduate-student discount, and she began asking several personal questions about my education. I even offered to show my student ID, to which she said she was "just trying to make conversation" and that she would take $50 off--but the exchange still felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. She scheduled me to return in two weeks for the first fitting, where I would try on the corset and we would mark the hem. However, when I arrived, the corset wasn't completed. She explained she had difficulty finding a matching back panel and ribbon, which I understand since the color was discontinued. What concerned me was that she hadn't sourced materials ahead of time and didn't offer alternative solutions (such as lace) until I prompted her. She even suggested using fabric from the third layer of my dress for the back panel--something that would clearly be visible in photos--and only agreed it wasn't a good idea after I pointed it out. During the first fitting, I also told her that the corset was pinching my back and I didn't like the way it looked. She said nothing and offered no explanation. I later learned that with a corset, you're supposed to shift your back toward the sides to prevent pinching--something she failed to mention, and possibly didn't know. I had also repeatedly struggled with the straps since my first appointment, and instead of offering to re-sew them, she recommended adhesive. When I asked about simply re-stitching them, she hesitated and commented about my "budget," which felt judgmental and unprofessional. She then quoted $40. Because of the missed deadline, lack of proactive solutions, and overall unprofessional communication, I decided not to continue the alterations and returned to pick up my dress. At pickup, I told her I would pay for the work she had completed and compensate her for her time marking the hem. She initially agreed, but then tried to charge me the full cost of the corset--even though it was unfinished. She also tried to charge me for a hem that was never sewn (just pinned). After going back and forth--and telling her I wasn't there to argue--she charged me $25 for the 30 minutes she spent marking the hem and the partial corset work. I ultimately paid $150 for half a corset and pins she removed. Overall, this was a stressful and disappointing experience, and I cannot recommend this business.

So far so good! Was recommended to come here, and had seen good reviews for wedding alterations…read morealready, so I decided to bring my wedding dress here. Before I went, I also called to ask them how much it would be for a cleaning, and they quoted me for $185. I don't remember how much it costs for the preservation box, but they do offer that, as well. Price was accurate when I came to the shop. I always wonder if I'm getting ripped off when I go to the dry cleaners because the prices aren't always clear, so I was glad it was the same. The shop just says "Cleaners" for their sign on the outside, but inside it does say Tailor John Cleaners. Large parking lot, it's near the CVS that closed, and the Big Lots that also closed. Shop is very clean. The woman helping me was very friendly. I was told the dress would be ready in 1 week. Payment is due when I pick up. I appreciate that because I can ensure that the cleaning is what I can reasonably expect before paying. A little over a week, I hadn't heard about my dress being ready for pickup, so I called and they confirmed it was ready. When I picked up my dress, it was an older gentleman helping me. He was also very friendly. I found the dress was cleaned to my satisfaction. Overall, it was a good experience getting my dress cleaned here and I would definitely recommend!

The young lady who runs the counter at that one is SO incredibly polite, cheerful, and professional. I hope the owner appreciates her wonderful customer service skills! The pricing is, I guess, fairly on par with most other cleaners. I've brought in a wide variety of items and have been very happy with the quality of the cleaning and condition of my garments at pick up. They have been ready when promised. I've never requested same-day or quick cleaning; items are usually ready within 2-3 days. Would recommend!

Came back at 11am on Saturday. She said come back at three because she hasn't even worked on it. Came back at three she only had two dress shirts done. When I finally got all three I was so excited, but one was cut way too short. It was kind of rushed and sloppily done. I should've trusted my gut instinct and she should've trusted hers too and turned me away. Do not get your dress shirts sleeves hemmed here. I've had dress shirt sleeve hemmed elsewhere and they were done a lot better. I should've gone to where I went before but it was just a little further than where I wanted to go. I wouldn't go here again. Paid about $45 to get three dress shirts done. I can't say much about the cleaning service tho.

These guys overcharged me. I brought in two coats. One of them was a medium sized coat as it fits…read moreme at the hip but they charged me $25 each when the price advertised should have been $16 for the medium coat. I was willing to pay for it anyway as I don't want to drive around to other dry cleaning places since I was already inside their store. Upon paying a guy tells me one of my coats has a 50/50 chance that the buttons can be damaged because it looks like plastic. I didn't want to take the risk with them so took the coat back. I don't understand how a coat that's labeled 'dry clean only' on the tag cannot be safely cleaned at a dry cleaners? Isn't it their job to clean it safely because otherwise what is the point of having dry cleaning service? So I decided to only leave one coat with them instead. When I went to pick it up on the day it was due which was four days later it looked awful. Lint everywhere and it looked the exact same as I dropped it off. It's as if they just sprayed my coat with perfume and threw it in the plastic bag. What a half azzed dry cleaning job! They didn't even bother to use a lint roller to take out the white lint off my coat. I could have saved $25 and washed the coat myself and use a lint roller. Which was what I did with the other coat that they denied AFTER I GOT HOME FROM THEIR STORE. The buttons did not damage in the wash either. I will not be back. Edit: Listen, why would I lie about my review? I don't have a motive to lie and ruin your business. All you needed to do is a better job. I know you have to tell me the buttons can be damaged to protect yourself. I understand that and Im not willing to risk it. But my family used to work at a dry cleaners and they cover the buttons with foil so they don't look like they do a half azzed job. If you don't see any white lint on a blue jacket you might need glasses. And also why would I say anything while I was at your store? I never threw my coat in the washer and dryer before taking it to your place of business so how would I know? I said I washed it myself after you didn't think you can clean it properly. I was there on a Monday and picked up on Thursday. There was no holiday. Correct, I am not the owner but you as the owner you need to change the prices on your sign because you are committing false advertising. This is not no third world country proving service on the street and making up any price you want. You are the liar and a fraud.
