"Closed for renovations..."
David C.

Reserved at the last minute on a road trip. No issues getting the room, and I didn't ask if I was getting or could get any of the free upgrades I should get with status. I usually get a bag of stuff including water, and when I asked for that, they let me take a couple bottles for free from the lobby. Daughter was excited for the indoor pool, picture uploaded. It was not only set up with tools, and chairs, but the water was even circulating. They said it was "closed for renovations" and wouldn't let us in. If you are closing the pool for renovations, at least make it look like you are doing something and not just wanting to avoid cleaning or monitoring the pool, which is what it appeared to be in this case. The room was pretty nice, though you could hear people walking and water running from the floor above. The breakfast buffet was pretty good - especially after just staying at the worst Residence Inn I've ever stayed at.

1 King Bed Room.

What a lovely room. My room was clean and decorated nicely. I loved the glass shower door, the complimentary tea, the fridge and being able to see my car from my second-story room. The lobby was very modern, clean, and smelled lovely. Breakfast was self-serve. I helped myself to a cup of oatmeal with the fixings and a cup of hot tea. Also available was fresh waffles and coffee. I was so pleased with the quality and details of this room. It was a class above the rest. I'll be looking for stays at Marriott hotels from now on.

Springhill Suites is new and a nice addition Gallup's economy and tourism with its new modern look. The lap pool and jacuzzi have ADA accessible enter & exit. I did not find the pool area inviting. Our suite was nice, however the futon couch/sleeper was the most uncomfortable couch I sat on. They do serve a hot complimentary breakfast.

If you find yourself in Gallup, this is a nice place to stay. The staff were all extremely friendly!! My room was very nice and clean. The hotel lobby and such was clean as well. The breakfast smelled and looked good, but I just grabbed an orange on my way out. Would I stay here again? Yes, if I found myself in Gallup. However I can say Gallup is not the best area. The crime rate for the area is high. Obviously the hotel can't control that and the hotel is doing a great job despite that.

Hotel is not maintained Marriott should remove the name because it's discussing. This hotel compares to a expensive motel 6. Piss stains on shower curtain. Broken spa and dirty floors in pool room. There excuse people walk in with dirty feet. No they have only one person working at night so no one is cleaning hotel as guests use it. This hotel will not allow food delivery to deliver to room. Has nothing in their pantry except water and few chips it's a joke for convenience. The receptionist has no clue how to treat her lifetime membership.

Hotel is surprisingly modern with lots of clean lined. Rooms were nicely decorated with West Elm furniture. I expected a clean hotel as it looked very new and I got what I was expecting. Bed in comfy. Nice with working area separated by glass from the "bedroom". Working area also has a large sitting area with a couch/trundle bed, microwave and refrigerator. I opened the microwave one night after just going downstairs for a microwaveable dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find a plate and utensils. Room has a smart TV which is a nice touch. They serve free breakfast and staff is very friendly. Parking is free and they have a great sign with a cat crossing. There are several fast food restaurants within walking distance for a quick bite to eat.

A young man who does night security here helped my 72 year old mother and I when we got a flat tire after dark.

Soo...we went by the back of the building first and all I could think of was, "where the hell are…read morewe staying?" The entrance was better. A historical resort so filled with character, you will never see all of it. Cons: it's an old time hotel so buckle in. The elevator has a heavy steel door outside and a gated slider inside. The outside door is so heavy it slammed on my hand. Fortunately it didn't smash my wedding ring and nothing broke but it most certainly hurt. The rooms are named after old movie actors. Ours was the Jean Parker room. Her face was emblazoned on our shower curtain. The bathroom was so small you could (I'm not kidding) wash your hands while sitting on the toilet. Jean was staring at the toilet, judging all our "movements". No hairdryers (call the desk and they will bring you one) . Our room had a balcony with a broken chair and a two person seat. Pros: coffee in the room with real cups. Lovely, firm mattress and plenty of pillows. The hotel is super cute and there's an older gentleman who's like a greeter who's wonderful. The bar is great.

The photos are adorable, their website is fantastic, the…read morebillboard outside of town gives you a high-end vibe, and overall, I thought this might rival the Thunderbird Hotel in Marfa. Unfortunately, the reality of the whole situation was a very different experience. It started off great. The doorman held the door for us as we walked in. The check-in lady was super friendly. Our room was connected to our kids' room, which was fantastic. The vibe was Route 66 kitch, and we even had a little payphone in our room, which was fun. The woman in the gift shop was helpful with cultural Kachina Dancer questions I had. Although, as I was walking through the store, I noticed a t-shirt that said "Gallup: The Indian Capital". I live near two reservations, and the terms used are either Native American or Native for slang. If the t-shirt had been in New York City, fine. But at least half, if not all, of the staff is Native American. That's a pretty big slap in the face to those employees. I even mentioned it to a Native working in another store, and he rolled his eyes and said, "It happens all the time, man." I know it does, but that doesn't mean this hotel should be adding to it. It seems tacky. I woke early the next morning from suitcases clanging down the steps, people talking, and general hubbub. I get it's a motel, and I was on the ground floor by the parking lot, so I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep. What I COULDN'T ignore was cigarette smoke coming in my door and making me choke. I assumed someone was loading their car right in front of my door and having a smoke. Furious I opened the door and looked outside only to find a lady 6 rooms down from me quietly having a cigarette. I was honestly surprised at how smoky my room was vs how far away she was from my door. To be clear, I was not seeing clouds of smoke in my room; it just smelled like someone was smoking in there. The lady was very nice and put it out immediately when she learned I could smell it. I inspected the door frame when I closed it and noticed rather large gaps where light and air were coming through. (That means potentially fumes are coming in and AC/Heat is escaping.) I mentioned it to the cleaning lady and she said it must have gotten into the vent and then into our room. Not a great answer either. TL;DR Cute rooms, friendly staff, noisy in the morning, and random smells might enter your room.

Check in was easy though the rate was higher than other Choice hotels that we had been to earlier in the trip. The desk clerk was pleasant. We checked-in to room 207 and it smelled fresh and it was clean. A nice room is always welcomed after a long day on the road. The A/C quickly cooled down the room. The bathroom was clean and bright, an important touch in this situation. The bed was firm and comfortable and we had a great night sleep. The breakfast area was clean and well maintained and it was good to find a couple protein choices among the carbs. Though, I will add that the eggs looked a little dry and had been out for a while. Checkout was easy and again the AM clerk was very friendly. It was nice to be back on the road in the morning refreshed and with a full belly. Kudos to all the housekeepers and staff for a nice stay. Choice hotels is almost always a good stop. This location did not disappoint. Peace.

Polite and informative, and an example of customer service at its finest. The room was as expected. While the king size bed wasn't the most comfortable I slept well on it and was only awakened one time by the passing trains. The ice machine in my part of the building was out of order however another one was available. The floor in the bathroom had some gaps in it, which should be addressed as they could provide a trip hazard. All in all, a pleasant stay for a road weary traveler. Travel safe.

This was the worst hotel experience I have had in over 10 years…read more Filthy bathrooms, breakfast area was filthy, juice left uncovered, no options for breakfast food, machines out of order, lobby smells like curry, parking lot had trash, blood on the interior room curtain, no tissue stocked, hair in the bed, no staff on duty overnight... every trash can was filthy. When you check-in, there's a man from India on a TV, but no physical person. I requested a room away from anyone above me, as there were only a few cars in the entire parking area. He put me below a guy who was making noise all night. The walls are paper thin, the ceilings crack like thunder, everything in the rooms is from the early 90s except the TV. I paid for the room through booking.com but the owner hard charged my deposit onto my credit card the day I checked out. The deposit was supposed to be returned within a couple business days but this thief owner from India charged me the $50 deposit plus something else. The deposit should've remained a pending charge until it was reversed. We noticed when we pulled up that this hotel was essentially empty except for an abandoned SUV, the owner's car, and 1 other car on the side of the property. The room was so filthy we didn't even use the shower. I provided a screenshot showing the double-charge. The booking.com transaction is followed by a hard charge the following day. I think this hotel owner does this assuming either people won't notice or people won't report him. I would also like to point out that I sunk about a foot into the mattress. The mattresses are about 5 years past their throw away date. Do not stay here, under any circumstances.
