Tony and I stopped in at the Hampton Inn at Gallup, New Mexico. The room was good Size but there was hotel issues from the beginning. The main lobby doors would not open they were broken had to be forcefully opened. There was only one broken bellboy cart. The elevator was old, rickety and scary. The entire place was not even a one star hotel. I would be ashamed to call it a Hilton. The room was clean and decore okay but the door would not lock properly. I was scared to sleep. I moved furniture in front of doorway. The bathroom was dirty. The previous customers dirty socks under the bathroom sink and black hair in shower. There was a snow storm so no rooms to move too, no other hotel close by and I called corporate...they gave me 15,000 points to compensate...better than nothing but I won't be back...NO THANK YOU

This was definitely one of my favorite Hampton stays. I can't find anything negative about it. Check in was a breeze and the gentleman was polite. We were in room 210 it was clean and comfortable. Bed was perfect and I loved the pillows. Room was quiet couldn't hear other people. I know they were busy because parking was pretty full. Had a nice hot shower with great water pressure. The only thing wrong was it was hard to lift valve to switch from bath to shower. Had to wake up hubby and he did it but it was not easy. Breakfast was perfect, actually better than most Hamptons. Waffles were yummy and they had sugar free syrup which was appreciated. My guys enjoyed the bagel with eggs, cheese and bacon on them. The had greasy fruit that was yummy. Great breakfast to start the day. I would definitely stay here again when passing through.

Due to the wife's work we stay at Hampton Inns all across the US. The cleaning crew must have missed this piece of furniture because it has stains all over it. Not the normal care and attention to detail we are use to. We asked for ADA shower or walk in shower got the normal old tub shower combo. Well glad it's only for one night or we would be changing rooms

I stopped here on my last night of my road trip from Rhode Island to Arizona. Tomorrow I will be in Arizona with some of my family who I haven't seen for a long time because of the pandemic. I have stayed in a variety of hotels on my trip and I have to say that this is the nicest one. I was so reassured when there were big signs on the hotel doors and actually all over New Mexico saying that masks must be worn. Also there were all kinds of social distancing limits in place. Only two people are allowed in an elevator at the same time. I had made my Reservation online and when I go to the hotel I realized that I had made it for Saturday night instead of Friday. I sat with my phone and canceled Saturday's reservation and I asked if there was anything available for Friday night. The young ladies at the desk were very kind and very nice. There were strict rules for social distancing and for not touching things that other people have touched. There was a cup for clean pens and a cup to put the pen in after you had used it. There was plexiglass between me and the people behind the desk. Everything was really organized and made me feel very safe. I went to my room and it was very lovely. The only smell was a nice clean smell. The room had a king size bed and a desk and TV and dressers and a pull out couch and a bench and a little kitchenette area and a lovely clean bathroom. There's a big window that faces out toward the highway. The only downside for some people may be that there is the home of the highway. I don't find that distracting at all, in fact I actually like that noise. In the morning instead of a hot breakfast they serve grab and go bags with fruit and a pastry in it and a bottle of water which is perfect. I definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again myself.

Looks great on the outside and inside. Employees were extremely welcoming and helpful. Price was far below what we expected for the quality. Everything was amazing, but I forgot to take pictures of breakfast.

Loud banging doors, dog barking and sad breakfast. Use to be a nice place and fairly decent breakfast. Looks are deceiving.

A historical resort so filled with character, you will never see all of it. Cons: it's an old time hotel so buckle in. The elevator has a heavy steel door outside and a gated slider inside. The outside door is so heavy it slammed on my hand. Fortunately it didn't smash my wedding ring and nothing broke but it most certainly hurt. The rooms are named after old movie actors. Ours was the Jean Parker room. Her face was emblazoned on our shower curtain. The bathroom was so small you could (I'm not kidding) wash your hands while sitting on the toilet. Jean was staring at the toilet, judging all our "movements". No hairdryers (call the desk and they will bring you one) . Our room had a balcony with a broken chair and a two person seat. Pros: coffee in the room with real cups. Lovely, firm mattress and plenty of pillows. The hotel is super cute and there's an older gentleman who's like a greeter who's wonderful. The bar is great.

Unfortunately, the reality of the whole situation was a very different experience. It started off great. The doorman held the door for us as we walked in. The check-in lady was super friendly. Our room was connected to our kids' room, which was fantastic. The vibe was Route 66 kitch, and we even had a little payphone in our room, which was fun. The woman in the gift shop was helpful with cultural Kachina Dancer questions I had. Although, as I was walking through the store, I noticed a t-shirt that said "Gallup: The Indian Capital". I live near two reservations, and the terms used are either Native American or Native for slang. If the t-shirt had been in New York City, fine. But at least half, if not all, of the staff is Native American. That's a pretty big slap in the face to those employees. I even mentioned it to a Native working in another store, and he rolled his eyes and said, "It happens all the time, man." I know it does, but that doesn't mean this hotel should be adding to it. It seems tacky. I woke early the next morning from suitcases clanging down the steps, people talking, and general hubbub. I get it's a motel, and I was on the ground floor by the parking lot, so I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep. What I COULDN'T ignore was cigarette smoke coming in my door and making me choke. I assumed someone was loading their car right in front of my door and having a smoke. Furious I opened the door and looked outside only to find a lady 6 rooms down from me quietly having a cigarette. I was honestly surprised at how smoky my room was vs how far away she was from my door. To be clear, I was not seeing clouds of smoke in my room; it just smelled like someone was smoking in there. The lady was very nice and put it out immediately when she learned I could smell it. I inspected the door frame when I closed it and noticed rather large gaps where light and air were coming through. (That means potentially fumes are coming in and AC/Heat is escaping.) I mentioned it to the cleaning lady and she said it must have gotten into the vent and then into our room. Not a great answer either. TL;DR Cute rooms, friendly staff, noisy in the morning, and random smells might enter your room.

Check in was easy though the rate was higher than other Choice hotels that we had been to earlier in the trip. The desk clerk was pleasant. We checked-in to room 207 and it smelled fresh and it was clean. A nice room is always welcomed after a long day on the road. The A/C quickly cooled down the room. The bathroom was clean and bright, an important touch in this situation. The bed was firm and comfortable and we had a great night sleep. The breakfast area was clean and well maintained and it was good to find a couple protein choices among the carbs. Though, I will add that the eggs looked a little dry and had been out for a while. Checkout was easy and again the AM clerk was very friendly. It was nice to be back on the road in the morning refreshed and with a full belly. Kudos to all the housekeepers and staff for a nice stay. Polite and informative, and an example of customer service at its finest. The room was as expected. While the king size bed wasn't the most comfortable I slept well on it and was only awakened one time by the passing trains. When you check-in, there's a man from India on a TV, but no physical person. I requested a room away from anyone above me, as there were only a few cars in the entire parking area. He put me below a guy who was making noise all night. The walls are paper thin, the ceilings crack like thunder, everything in the rooms is from the early 90s except the TV. I paid for the room through booking.com but the owner hard charged my deposit onto my credit card the day I checked out. The deposit was supposed to be returned within a couple business days but this thief owner from India charged me the $50 deposit plus something else. The deposit should've remained a pending charge until it was reversed. We noticed when we pulled up that this hotel was essentially empty except for an abandoned SUV, the owner's car, and 1 other car on the side of the property. The room was so filthy we didn't even use the shower. I provided a screenshot showing the double-charge. The booking.com transaction is followed by a hard charge the following day. I think this hotel owner does this assuming either people won't notice or people won't report him. I would also like to point out that I sunk about a foot into the mattress. The mattresses are about 5 years past their throw away date. Do not stay here, under any circumstances.
