It wasn't the worst or greatest. The biggest downfall was highway and train noise. But if you had a room across the hall it probably was quiet. We were on the 2nd floor where the laundry room was. We ate the free breakfast which had eggs, meat, a DIY waffle machine, pastries, toast, cereal, yogurt, coffee etc. Parking was right in front. Location was convenient to fast food and Walmart, then easy to get back on the highway to continue our road trip. We noticed the lobby ceiling was leaking with buckets to catch the drips. Our room had a recent patch job, the spackle was brown and unpainted. Otherwise it was average for the price.

Our car got broken into in the 15 mins it took us to check in. I know this because we left the car, checked in, came back and car was broken into. They refused to show us video footage, because "our car was not parked where there was a camera". As well as a slew of other excuses. By the way, the camera is only located at the front where cars aren't allowed to park. And even if this was the case, we argued that we wanted to see the footage in case anyone walked by with our belongings. Management refused. Makes us think this was an inside job because why else would they be so adamant about not letting us see the footage? In addition to this, the handle and lock on the door of our room was broken. Very sketchy. Do not stay here.

Just ok as Comfort Inns go. The front desk people are lacking personality and there were signs that the cleaning isn't a priority. I have and will stay at the Comfort Suites on the other end of town.

My parents and I stayed here last Sunday night as this was the place that our tour group chose as the hotel. Yes, it is already prearranged as the travel agency always stays at this place. The room was very nice and large. The two beds were very comfortable. Very clean bathroom. The lobby was very clean. Of course, there is a business center and a breakfast area. Finally, this place is just steps away from both Cracker Barrel and Applebee's.

Overall a good deal for the price. Will stay here again when I come back to visit family. Stayed again 11/27-29/2017- still great service and clean room; good breakfast. Returned 7/20-23/2018 was greeted by Alexis, the lobby was clean and smelled fresh, our room on the 3rd floor was very clean and comfortable. Still a good breakfast, very nice employees and a great place to sleep. I have not had a bad experience any of the 3 times I've stayed here.

Noticed about 2 dozen of these things in the parking lot near the side entrance. I picked one up and realized they were needles. Don't know what there used for and don't really care. I just don't kids picking these up and hurting themselves. I talked to front desk about it twice they don't seem to mind. Other than that the rooms were ok.

As others have echoed, this hotel is a "mixed bag". This was our first time and also our first stop after a 10hr drive making our way to the east coast. With me, two dogs and my son. This is listed as a pet friendly hotel and there is a $25 per dog. Upon arriving, exhausted and needing to sleep, the front desk lady was kind of rude, told us our dogs were too big and we couldn't stay there. I was so disjointed having dragged my family all the way there and nowhere to sleep. I pled and she said if I paid an additional $50 for the dogs, we could stay (begrudgingly). I had no choice but to pay the extorted amount lest we all sleep in the car. On that note, I had a small trailer attached to my car and upon parking found several men who appeared to be near homeless canvassing the parking lot (and looking into cars). One even had a baseball bat. If you think I'm kidding, check out the attached pic of one such guy who kept circling my car on a bike looking at my stuff. I then notified a different front desk lady about my concerns with the safety issue in their lot and she smirked saying "I'm new here" whilst shrugging her shoulders. I got my son and dogs to the room and stayed with my car for hours to protect my belongings. Listen, the rooms aren't bad ...but safety is paramount when traveling. I'd avoid this place.

It was a nice room at a moderate price which is not easy to find these days, even in Gallup. Not fabulous but very acceptable.

"Charm of Yesterday, Convenience of Tomorrow"…read more I spend some time at this hotel during my many visits to Gallup over the past year. I haven't stayed here yet, but I have eaten at the restaurant and toured the lobby area. El Rancho Hotel opened in 1937 and was built to be a place for people in the film industry to stay at while filming movies in Gallup. Several western movies were filmed in the surrounding area during the 1940s and 1950s. There is a lot of history to this hotel. Many movie stars have stayed here including John Wayne, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck and Ronald Reagan. In the lobby area are several photographs and memorabilia that pay tribute to El Rancho's rich past. Historic El Rancho Hotel is located on historic Route 66. You can't miss its neon sign out front. In addition to rooms, it has a restaurant and a large gift shop. We came here one night to explore the hotel and walk through the gift shop. A gentleman welcomed us and shared with us his many stories about this hotel. We enjoyed his company and he mentioned to us that there is a secret room upstairs. We eventually figured out how to access the room and enjoyed how its decorations pays homage to the past. The courtyard area in front of Historic El Rancho Hotel has chairs to sit and relax on. The upstairs balcony also has chairs. The lobby is my personal favorite place in this hotel because of its grand staircase and the many black and white photos on the wall. We ate at the restaurant one time and enjoyed the New Mexican cuisine that they serve there. Someday I will probably stay here. But if not, exploring this place is still fun and a nice throwback to the old days of Hollywood.

It certainly did not disappoint when it comes to a point-of-interest. Cool looking exterior and interior with lots of reference to the years gone by. They really play-up their ties to celebrities such as John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball and many more. Tons of framed and many autographed photos line the wall. Good luck finding and figuring out how to enter the hidden room. :) We got our Route 66 Passport stamped and enjoyed taking photos as we walked the property.
