The problem with traveling to another state for this first time is that you never know what to expect. Years ago, I worked on the Ohio Turnpike in a service plaza & was surprised that , compared to Ohio; none of the rest areas on my way to the Grand Canyon offered a food court ,rest area for overnight guest nor showers/laundry for travelers. However, compared to the 8 plus rest stops I visited along the way; this was the second best rest area.
Although the information center was closed, you could learn a lot about the local history by viewing the many bulletin boards. Also, the design of the center was unique yet smart; as the bathrooms are not directly connected to the other buildings (no nasty smells from the bathroom suffocating you). There were vending machines but if you were stuck here for a long period of time (ex: flat tire, bad storm, etc) you could only buy drinks that are behind barred gates.
The bathrooms were pretty clean considering there were no staff members available. This area is also visually pleasing as the view of the mountains is absolutely beautiful! You can also enjoy the outdoors in the many cute picnic areas as well. read more
