This relatively new Amarillo establishment is almost completely outside the city on the west side. It is in a very nice part of town and close to many eating establishments, both chains and local joints. The staff is friendly and the hotel is extremely clean. The suites are spacious and well-designed. The amenities and layouts make for a great long-term stay. Both the highway and main drags are close, and you can get to local tourist attractions such as Cadillac Ranch and Palo Duro Canyon very quickly. Great deal for the price!

Quick Comments: - Conveniently off US 40 - Free Parking - Free Breakfast, "Texas" State waffle - Microwave and Fridge - Modern Hip Facility (Bathroom Barn Door) - Near Restaurants, mostly chain - Polite Staff - Way better than the Courtyard

Clean and new hotel! Out of all the Marriott hotels my bf has taken me to, this one was the more modern-looking ones. PARKING They have their private lot all to themselves for their guest to park at. LOCATION What a prime location this is! It's surrounded by a shopping mall, many restaurants, an IMAX movie theater, and so much more. It's very good if you want to have a little distance from the airport. SERVICE Everyone was very kind and professional. Since this is a new hotel, some workers are still new to their job and didn't know how to answer some of our questions. It'll take some time. ROOMS Very very clean with a modern look. They lose one star because when I was taking a shower, as are so many people at 9pm, their water pressure decreased a lot. It was a struggle to take a proper shower with only a few drips. Other than that, the pressure came back up later on. BREAKFAST Free breakfast, very good. Similar to all the other hotels. POOL They said it's a lap pool.. but was that big in my opinion. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

When I called into this hotel and Ashley immediately answered the phone. She was sweet, helpful, and calmed my nerves with helping me book a room here. I mentioned over the phone that I had been driving nonstop for the last 10 hours and was excited to have place to shower, rest, and maybe grab a bite to eat next door. When I came in, she inquired if I've eaten yet and quickly made me something from the kitchen. I'm so impressed with how she was able to quickly get me into my room, while making me feel so welcomed in Texas and simultaneously laughing at my bad jokes. Can't wait to come back!

Aside from the hospitality, I am guessing the kickback hour is a big draw as well. They are also pet friendly. We were on a roadtrip to Colorado and decided to spend the night on our way back. There were 2 tour buses when we arrived and it looked like we just missed the crowd at check-in. The front desk folks were an epitome of Texas hospitality. Friendly, laid back and the ladies just made us feel so welcome. We were given 3 drink coupons each for kickback hour. Our 2 queen room on the 2nd floor didn't have much of a view but it was homey and quiet. Kickback hour was busy but staff were surprisingly very accommodating. Their margaritas will give you a buzz. They have hot food items, soup and a salad for the complimentary light dinner. For those that have not stayed at a Drury Inn before, the kickback hour is similar to Embassy Suites' evening reception, but WAY better. We slept surprisingly well, considering the hotel's proximity to the highway. We had no problems with the ac either. Breakfast was better than your typical hotel breakfast with a bunch of options. We did not get to use the other facilities because we had to head out early. This was our first time staying at a Drury property. I'm normally a Hilton and Marriott girl but I'll definitely choose Drury if there is one available in my future destinations. We also appreciate the military discount they offer. Thanks for a memorable stay!

Thank you to the staff who take care of the meal preparation. You are all kind and helpful. Good amount of parking and safe. Shops and restaurants nearby. Starlight Canyon - Mesquite room hot tub (10/9/2022)

Most folks reviewed Starlight Canyon after a weekend retreat with their fiancés, spouse or…read moresignificant other... It's that kind of place. Lol. I am the single mom who brought her kids here to share the Mesquite room on October 9-10, 2022. This bed and breakfast is located in a somewhat remote area of Amarillo, Texas. The surrounding landscape is a bit reminiscent of Palo Duro Canyon - which is just a short drive away - but not in an extreme way that the Lone Star state park yields. The view from the hot tub at 7:30PM was amazing with a glorious display of sunset colors. Robes were provided behind the bathroom door. Near the pond on the old red, white, and blue amusement park ride chair, we found a walking stick. A friendly orange Tabby cat kept returning to our front door. My 8 and 9-year-old couldn't resist petting the stray feline. We weren't crazy about the continental breakfast which comprised of a cherry turnover, Yoplait yogurt, and Tropicana apple juice so we'll pass on that if we don't stay on a morning when they offer a hot meal. Just a couple of other cons: I leave to pick up pizza in town and someone takes my spot in front of our door. Lol. Also, my stupid Sprint/T-mobile coverage was terrible here. The other accomodations definitely overrode the somewhat lacking Monday morning breakfast: quiet neighborhood, calm weather, microwave, mini fridge, iron & board, lots of programs on the TV, free Wi-Fi, walk-in shower, and private gated area with code access.

We stayed in the Pinion. The positives. It's remote and really close to Palo Duro Canyon (18 minutes) That was nice. It's about 12 minutes from the Big Texan. It's in a pretty setting. The bed was comfy. We stay at B&B's because there is a level of expectation where hospitality takes over and you feel like you were being treated like royalty. This is not that place. It almost felt like our stay was a little bit of an inconvenience. The room is small and very dated, but covered in wood plank and not very clean. A lot of dust. This particular room did not have a shower and only a bath tub with the hot water trickles out. I'm not joking. It took about 30 minutes to fill the bathtub. Tip 1. Make sure to ask if the room you are booking has a shower if you're needing a shower for medical reasons or handicap accessibility. According to one of the reviews, and in their pictures, there appeared to be a nice shower in the mesquite, but we weren't given the chance to stay there. Once you get in the room, you're given two towels for the bath and two towels for the hot tub. I uncovered the hot tub to see that the water was very cloudy and it wasn't a result of the bubbles. So I put the cover right back on. They don't give you anything with respect to toiletries when it comes to soap or shampoo or lotions or bath bomb. So it really does feel like you're not being pampered. Bed And Breakfast should always feel like you're being pampered. And inside the room, you're not giving any type of bottled water, filtered water and so you rely on the bathroom sink in the bathroom tub. Which I thought was really bad. The outside of the room was covered in Pineneedles on the walkway, and so we tracked some into a room. When we were trying to get into the door, some even to get into the wheels of our suitcase. It was kind of annoying. The area is just really dated and not well kept. However, that does give it a very rustic feel and so if you're into that kind of thing that it may suit your fancy. It does have a really cute cat that keeps you company in the random deer that you will see from time to time. Overall, I'm sure it meets the needs of a specific clientele that would enjoy that atmosphere but when I go to a bed-and-breakfast, I consider myself to be high maintenance. So they certainly could meet the need a specific individuals however, it's not a place that I would really return to .

When she did finally look up she didn't say I'm sorry for the delay, or apologize or anything. Just looked at us like we were just an annoyance in her life at that time. She had an attitude and was NOT friendly at all! She didn't smile and was very rude! My friend asked her what time would the bar open? Her response was NEVER, again friend asked will it ever open and her response was NOPE. I will never stay there again. Honestly, we went in and out a lot and not once did we see her smile in the 2 days of staying there. It would probably be in your best interest for your hotel by getting rid of her. I didn't catch her name because she didn't have a badge on. She was working the desk on Monday the 23rd of March at 4:00 in the afternoon. I could give a description of her but maybe you can figure out who she was by the date and time. Also, if you advertise a bar it should be open. Ridiculous!!!! I'm sure this will never make it to the right people because it looks like there are a lot of complaints about the check in process.

In the room I had the bathroom ceiling was in urgent need of repairs which you would not expect for that price. Worse is their handling of WiFi. You have to pay that but if you are a BonVoy member you can (afterwards!) ge6 it removed from your bill. At checkout I mentioned this since I am a BonVoy member and the lady said she would remove it from the bill. I did not get a new bill however and as far as I can see they charged me for it anyway. The bed is comfortable, the linens and towels of the quality expected in a nice hotel. Physically, the place is nice. What is lacking is a customer experience commensurate with their hype. They are posers. Gone are the days, when the clerk comes from behind the counter to hand you your room key and walk you to the elevator. That used to be a Marriott trademark, but no trace of it at the Barfield. I decided to eat at the bar. Same menu as the hotel's Toscana Italian Steakhouse. Even though there were three women behind the bar, and only six other patrons, it took a while to be recognized, since the staff were all busily chit-chatting with each other. Finally, one of the women brought me a glass of bar mix. I looked at it, trying to figure out what it was. It was the consistency of large-grain salt--I would need a spoon to eat it. I asked another of the staff on her way by what it was, and, after examining it, she said, "It looks like you got the bottom of the bag." What level of mindlessness does it take to pour a glass of bar-mix crumbs, hand it to a guest, and think that's world-class? Dinner was the next disappointment. I was interested in the "Creole Tortellini," but asked if they could prepare it with any type of red sauce, instead of the cream sauce. "No problem," I was told. As I was finishing my salad, the woman returned to say they couldn't accommodate the request because "everything was already mixed together." Prepared in-kitchen earlier in the day, or in a Sysco bag, I'll never know. Next try was Steak Frites, steak done medium. It came out medium-well with cold fries. The highlight was the glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I ordered. The "fond farewell" I received early next morning was from the "valet." When he brought the car around, he exited the car, closed the door, and handed me the key as he walked by me while I stood at the rear of my car with my bag. He rushed back inside, leaving me standing there with his tip in my hand. Based on my experience, the Barfield wants to be a high-end hotel, but not enough to actually work at it. Not worth the premium.
