Over the years I've traveled to 38 states in the US, and a dozen countries on both sides of the planet. I've slept in everything from retreat centers to five star hotels. Dartmouth Coach has absolutely terrible customer service. Not only will the customer service agents…read moretreat you like you are stupid, they are short, crass, and unwilling to make any sort of accommodations. I was double charged a cancellation fee because for some reason they decided to only refund one leg of my round trip ticket - why would I need the return ticket if I cancelled the original ticket? - and was extremely short and rude when I called confused about why it was only cancelling one leg. They were also extremely abrupt when I called in about a question earlier in the day, hanging up on me twice and speaking to me with the tone of a child. I've also been on a Dartmouth Coach from New York to Hanover that hit a car and delayed our trip by a few hours. Unfortunately, they have a monopoly on the market for transportation to the Upper Valley. However, their complete lack of flexibility or even basic human kindness when interacting with customers let alone when delivering disappointing news is absolutely abysmal and has always left a bad taste in my mouth. Would not recommend purchasing unless you are 100% set on your trip.

But one thing has been irking me - their breakfast options. While they actually have a pretty nice breakfast compared to most continental breakfast hotels, they include pork in almost everything. They put the vegetarian quiche in the same pan as the bacon. They put sausage or ham in all the breakfast sandwiches. I know they have non-pork options because there was one day where they had no pork in all the food . Management - please offer non-pork options for your guests and pls stop putting pork and non pork foods in the same pan. To be fair, I asked the kitchen manager if he had anything without pork one day and the next day was when I saw all the non-pork options. But one day out of the week is not enough. I would increase the rating to 5 stars if they fix this. Thanks

I strongly urge anyone considering Getaway Mountain Campground to stay far away. Our experience…read morehere was nothing short of appalling. From the moment we checked in, the owners were extremely rude and unwelcoming. After staying for the weekend, we extended our stay due to the campground's cleanliness, thinking it would be perfect for our family, including our three children with special needs and our service animals. Unfortunately, the owner's behavior quickly escalated. One day, the man running the office drove by on his golf cart and began yelling and swearing at me, accusing us of not picking up after our dogs. I explained that we always clean up after them, but he refused to listen. We decided to leave for the weekend to avoid further conflict, but when we returned, we found piles of dog poop deliberately placed near our motorhome. Things worsened when one of our children, who is nonverbal, picked up a pile of the mess. When we addressed the issue with the office, the owner's wife not only refused to acknowledge their behavior but also accused us of lying. The man's hostile behavior escalated again, yelling and swearing at us in front of our children. He threatened to have us thrown out by the police, which he followed through on. The officers who responded could see that this was a personal issue and were baffled as to why they had been called. We were told to leave, but not before being denied a refund for the remaining days we had already paid for. To make matters worse, we've since learned that the owners of Getaway Mountain Campground have been actively calling around to other campgrounds, slandering our name. They falsely claim we don't pick up after our dogs and that my husband chased the owner with a 2x4--an outright lie. The current campground we're staying at informed us of this and has stated that they've seen no issues with us or our pets. In fact, the surrounding campers have no complaints, and the campground owner is willing to write a statement about the situation, including notifying the authorities of this baseless harassment. The entire experience left us feeling targeted and mistreated. We have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and have never encountered anything like this. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this campground at all costs. Verdict: AVOID Getaway Mountain Campground.

When you arrive, there is a board on the left side of the house that has the required information for contactless check-in information which was uncomplicated. Our room - the gala - had a much bigger bed than expected which was awesome as well as a spa tub, and gas fireplace. About $550 for two night stay which is very competitive for the area. Within walking distance to many attractions and shopping. Clean and the communal areas were very cute and matched online pictures exactly. My only qualm is that this is a very old house and you can hear EVERYTHING from the other rooms which was very unpleasant especially if you are in a downstairs room. Floors creaking, beds squeaking, music, conversations, etc. I would recommend bringing headphones and not coming here with children unless you can rent all the rooms for your group or you might have some explaining to do in regards to the sounds coming from other rooms... This is my first BnB experience so maybe this is the norm but I was not prepared for it. As far as I can tell there aren't any enforced quiet hours here. Shampoo/conditioner provided - no body soap. Hairdryer, iron, and hangers available in room. Extra blankets in room. Fridge available for guest storage. Ability to use microwave in kitchen. Parking lot in the back, parking included in stay. WiFi available, but NOT reliable for zoom at least in the room I was staying in. Suggest Farmer and the Bell for wifi for work. Thermostat/heater available. Host reachable via text. Enjoyable breakfast from 8-9am, the same every morning - see picture: oatmeal, yogurt, pumpkin bread and coffee cake, coffee/tea/water Books available in our room - also local free library at Mon Vert if you need something to read! We ended up reserving the only room which does not have an en suite bathroom for $100/night, which includes a very tasty continental breakfast. The breakfast included delicious spiced oatmeal with a variety of add-ons (walnuts, chopped apples, honey, real maple syrup). Also available were hard boiled eggs, great coffee, a variety of teas, excellent bread and jams, bananas, apples, oranges, homemade pumpkin bread, Greek yogurt, granola. I peeked into a couple of the other rooms which were not currently rented and they all seem to be spacious and nicely decorated. Right now I am hanging out in the comfy shared living room space after wearing myself out XC skiing at the Woodstock Nordic Center this morning - only about a mile away. A variety of restaurants are within walking distance. And a bonus for us: There is an EV charger about a 2 minute walk away.

The fire pit on our site was full of debris, we could not safely have a fire. The women at the site across from us sat at the picnic table and screamed at most of the cars, about the speed limit, as they drove by. There was a rotten wood thing covering what looked like a hole. That had rusty nails stick out of it. Since the camper was at the street and the truck was parked, we only had about 6 feet between the two. As we were sitting outside between them, the children at the site next to use were having a nerf gun fight using the space behind our camper, I was hit with one of the bullets. I went to the office to complain. Nothing was done. We had paid for 4 nights we pulled out after the first night it was so bad!

Overall clean, neat, and looks brand new. Love the rustic design everywhere. The dorm room, which is where I slept, is on the second floor and quite spacious and it's nice they didn't cram more bunk beds. It sleeps 8 but it was just me and another person. It comes with a balcony with a view of the pond and forest, a dining table, a ceiling fan, split hvac system, and sitting area with chairs. Within the same building, downstairs is a mini-kitchen (no stove), 2 separate showers, the check-in office, and a private bedroom. The co-owner/wife is really sweet, friendly, and warm. Too bad I didn't have time to interact more. The Lodge (the common area) is a brief walk outside to get to it. It also has a rustic look. Clean and pretty cool. There's a laundry room, small full kitchen, 2 mini fridges, a full bathroom, a dining table, 2 sitting areas, books, board games, a guest photo album (love the idea), and a guest art book. Breakfast comes with your stay but it's not available till 8 am and I had to leave before then. There's also coffee and tea. Quiet hours begin at 9 pm and end at 6 am. I was surprised by 9 pm because that's too early but that's just me. The last 2 hostels I came from start quiet hours at 10 pm. The only complaint I have is the blanket given for the dorm beds is not sufficient for Vermont's cold temperatures during the night. A duvet will likely be a better option since it's easier to wash. And it didn't help that the other person I was sharing the room with likes to sleep cold (I say that because I saw that 1 window was slightly open and the ceiling fan was running). In short, just book a stay here! I doubt you'll have any regrets.
