I was an ER walk in because I experienced sever dizziness and nausea when I woke up. I felt triage took my complaint seriously. They checked my heart right away, asked me questions about my history and symptoms. They put me at ease. They also did bloodwork and a CT to rule out a stroke or other problems. Thank God it wasn't serious, but if it had been, they were right on top of it. Stop pretending to care. Update the facilities. Especially update the ER Staff...some of them.. especially the nurses need to improve interactions with patients. If I know what the doctor said to me please don't think I'm making it up. I know precisely what was discussed. You weren't there. You suck to the outdated orders but thought you were correct. Yet when the internist started to look it up on the PC she found the consult instructions that were discussed with me. I was at the consultation. I know exactly what was discussed. The quality of care from the lymphedema specialist is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced! My arm was measured in four places and the bill says it cost $750 for these measurements! I was measured twice and both times I could not even get the lymphedema sleeve on due to poor measuring. I have never had trouble like this in the almost 20 years I have worn a lymphedema sleeve!! I will now have to find a different lymphedema therapist outside of Springfield Memorial. read more

This review is from a visitors perspective only. A visitor that was here daily for about two weeks. After realizing our patient needed intense rehab before going home he was finally approved to go to 3B at Memorial. 3B is their therapy wing and known for being better than the kind of rehab you'd get from a nursing home facility. To get up to the room, everyday, usually twice a day, sometimes three times a day, you had to check in at a desk at the main entrance. Give the patients name and room number and get a name tag. Only a maximum of two people were allowed in the room at any time. My mom and I were always together, so if anyone else came by one of us had to leave. The room was an older room with older furnishings and the only place for visitors to sit was a window seat bench. BUT just like the other hospital, around the corner was a newer wing with a small visitors lounge with much more comfortable chairs and a table. The cafeteria here had much better hours and specials. I was a creature of habit and got the little taco bar and salad bar. I cannot make a salad without sunflower seeds anymore because they have them here!!! What was also different here is not only acknowledging the hard work the nurses and techs do night and day, but the work the physical therapist do. From PT, to OT to ST we were thankful for everything they do. read more

I broke my wrist in a fall on a Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. I went to Memorial emergency room and the of the ER were rude and hateful and then I had an x-ray and both of my wrists were so swollen and the lesson was just killing me and I was there for eight begging for something for the pain and they would not even act like it was important. Finally when I got to go back the doctor the orthopedic resident said it caused me so much more pain and told me that I would have a couple pills when I got home for the pain that they would write me a script and then they didn't and then the jerk that was the new nurse. A guy was just rude and just hateful I would not tell anybody to go there or I will not go there ever again because I was just appalled by lack of care read more

My husband was rushed by ambulance yesterday morning. The ER day and night shift was great. Then he was admitted so we waited for a bed to open up. And one did. So we all, my husband, myself, and our 11 year old daughter, went up stairs to the 3 floor. Now we all had been in the ER since a little after 3 am. Got moved up stairs around 3 pm. Our daughter is still with us. Around 7:15 pm the charge nurse comes and tells me my daughter can not be there. Now my husband has memory loss from prior injuries. So he can not remember what drs say or fully answer medical history questions. So I have to be there. So I asked to have the doctor to call me while they are in with my husband. I was told that the nurses can not watch for the dr. Im sorry it is not a very big ward. The nurses know when a doctor is there. Some of you will say get someone to watch her. Well that's fine and dandy, but we don't have anyone to watch her. So, this is why this hospital received only 2 stars. Even though the staff was great. The hospital itself needs to understand that not everyone's needed are the same and some needs more help from the family. Our Daughter knows her father's medical history almost as good as myself. She was not loud, she was not running around, and she is not sick. So it was pretty crappy of them to kick us out and leave my husband to try and remember his medical history/ what happened yesterday. And it is pretty crappy of the doctors to not want to call the spouse so he has all the information they need and to make sure someone can remember what they say or what the patient needs to do. I just found out the they did not help him eat. My husband can not sit up and feed himself. So I ordered some chicken noodle soup before I was told to leave . I asked to nurses to help him eat since I had not eaten on over 24 hours. All they had to do was put the broth into a cup with a straw and have him drink a little. But apparently they couldn't do that so they gave him some apple juice ( in a cup with a straw) instead. What kind of nurse does that. read more

This hospital is unbelievable. They cleared my FIL for discharge to be transferred to Lincoln hospital without him having a bowel movement. Once he was in Lincoln, he had one and had to be sent right back to Springfield because of the results. Mind you, the transport fee is the responsibility of the patient and is not covered by insurance. This hospital is more concerned about kicking patients out than investigating what brought them to the hospital to begin with. The communication between the nurses, dr's and the family has been horrible. No return phone calls. read more

I cannot believe that a city of this size has to deal with this type of terrible emergency services.This place is filled with people who just want free drugs.One man had cut his hand and was bleeding he waited for four hours before just giving up and left.Another woman who was already there when I got there she was crying and complaining until she needed to go outside to smoke only to return to cry and complaining until she she was taken back because she was causing a scene. Another woman had her ex ray 4hours prior had been waiting for her results another3 hours. Another man was complaining about the length of time he had been waiting began swearing and causing a scene in front of security guard and a policeman who didn't even so much as look at him.I told him to watch his mouth because of children being present.This place is an absolute joke . read more

This is for the so-called emergency department there where you have to walk and walk to even get to the door and then there are / were so many patients in there and I guess not enough medical personnel. I went there today. because my doctor told me to; he had gotten the results from the lab that showed I had a high risk for DVT or a blood clot which is dangerous and he said I need to go to emergency right away so after my dermatologist appointment, I went right down to Memorial emergency department because it was closer than going to St. John's. Had I known I was gonna have to wait there most of the day I would've dressed in warmer clothing because it's so cold in there. Once you get checked in then you get called up to give your height weight etc which should have already been in the computers then back out into large packed waiting room and then you get called in again as soon as you sit down (terrible timing) to get a 2-minute EKG then back out again to the large waiting room to wait for about an hour to be called back to either door number one, door number two, door number three, or door number four. There are no bathrooms or warm blankets around that I saw, which was strange. Then once they call your name to get in to the small dr office or room, you think oh good I'm gonna see somebody but they say sit down and we will be with you ASAP and I guess they don't know what that means because it takes almost another hour from them to return and then all I have to give them is a urine sample and bloodwork which I already had done on Friday. Once again they shoot me out to the large waiting room with all the other people and wait to get an x-ray. What's that got to do with a DVT in my right leg? After that was over, they said good luck so I didn't know where to go after that because they didn't tell me if I should stay again or how long it would be. I waited for another 30 minutes before I finally left as I figure I can sit around at home all day on my own without even going to the stupid emergency room but I don't think it's an emergency room or an emergency department. It may be some type of triage health clinic, but it's definitely not an emergency room because in an emergency they might make you wait a half an hour at the most, but that's it because it's an EMERGENCY; you gotta get in right away. You're not supposed to be waiting around out there for hours at a time...that's stupid, they need to research these words and find out what they mean and change it to the proper wording!! It can't be emergency cause I should've been seen as soon as possible and I wasn't so I left. My doctor said I was supposed to get a sonogram so why wasn't that done FIRST? read more

My dad who is 94 years old and who has not been eating or drinking anything for the last 2 weeks; was taken to the ER. He arrived at Noon with his son and had to lay on a gurney in the Hallway untill 11:00 that night before they found a room for him. I think that is totally uncalled for and poor patient management. I don't care how many ER patients you have; a 94 year old should not be sitting in a damn hallway for 11 hours before getting a room. Let's take care of our elderly people and put them as a priority. Any young patients can handle laying on a gurney in the hall way for 11 hours; but not a 94 years old. I am sickened by everything you did not do to make my dad comfortable more immediately. read more

This is the worst hospital I have ever been at. I cut my foot today with a cutting knife off of an industrial packing machine. The cut was about 2inch long, 1inch wide, and about 2inches deep. It swelled up pretty bad by time I got to take my shoe off and see how bad it was. The bad part is I came to the ER at abt 6:15pm. Got checked in and then abt 3-1/2hrs later they took x-rays. And since then, now that it's 12:30 I still haven't been seen to just get stitched up. I showed the nurse in the triage what my foot looked like, but now 6hrs and counting still waiting. Thank God I wrapped it with some clean gauges before I came I might have bleed out. If you can stay the heck away from here. It's horrible and they treat a whole bunch of fake sick and needing attention people who want drugs here. If you're really hurt and need assistance you will not get it here not at all!!! read more

This is my first time back to the doctors office since returning to Springfield. I am completely pleased to return to Memorial Medical Center and it's affiliates for my medical care. I started at the Women's Health Care Office for a routine annual visit. I was seen by Lindsay Ostermeier, LPN, who performed very knowledgeably and has an awesome bedside manner. I have seen several workers today from checking in, at the doctors (WHC) office and the lab through the very specific and varying visit activities to closing, all have been pleasant and personable. Even when I didn't seem to follow those extra odd mammo standing positions. Thanks Cari, Kerri, and Jennifer, I appreciate your professionalism and patient care. Not one disappointing moment from doctors office, to mammography to lab. All was outstanding performers and provided a wonderful personal experience. I had a family member in that hospital for a month. The communication between doctors, nurses, and family all sucks. No one knows what the other person is doing. There was three different times my family member went from doing good to all of a sudden he's in critical condition again. When I asked to transfer him to a different hospital. The response was no. They wouldn't do that if the hospital couldn't do any more than Springfield Memorial was already doing. Infection control sucked at this hospital. They would change bed pans and get crap on the bed and toilet in room and leave it. Dialysis patients have strict diets, which this hospital did not adhere to for my family member. They did not do a good job of pain management. Wonder why they couldn't control his blood pressure or his oxygen. Well if the pain level is high then breathing g is irregular. Blood pressure is high. Took my mother to ER on Saturday September 21st, 2019 . As of noon on the 23rd a doctor still has not shown up. Making my calls to a few folks in hopes of getting a doctor. Saint Johns will have all our business from this point forward. Here is the latest update . Patient liaison came in and said he was an intermediary between patients and hospital. He said he was going to ask questions that will help the family. When he was done I asked which questions were for the family as all I heard was questions for hospital. He said I was correct. What a joke.. I pointed out the board still listed the day before info. This place is a joke. Here is latest the IV is empty because it was leaking into the bed. I actually gave Memorial 3 because we attend Memorial's infusion regularly and the nurses there are extremely kind, competent, funny and thoughtful. The room is exceptionally clean and the decor is very soothing. Because we attend the infusion regularly, when my husband got sick we chose to attend Memorial's ER. Huge mistake!! First of all, it was really cramped and filthy. Beds, broken equipment, carts, etc littered every inch of the hallways. The nurse must've hid the remote/nurse's call button because every time my husband needed something I had to chase a nurse down. Our nurse acted like she not only didn't want to be there, but also like she didn't want us there. They did a portable X-ray and could barely get the machine in there because the exam rooms are so small. It took a few hours to get the results back from blood tests and chest X-ray and he was sent home with a script for a steroid. A week later he started vomiting blood in the middle of the night and chose St Johns ER. They rushed him in and found that he had severe pneumonia. He was admitted and stayed 6 days. The only good thing about Memorial's ER is the Dr was very nice. read more

Before and after surgery today, I was cared for by some of the nicest nurses. They made sure I was completely comfortable at all times, and even made suggestions about how and when to get my medications. I was a little out of it to remember names, but I would highly recommend this place if you need surgery. Very friendly and caring staff. read more

ER has the Rudest Nurses and Doctors who act like they hate their job. My advice is to not make the mistake of going yourself.

Nurse Tyler needs to step up his game. I missed two doses of pain meds because he couldn't wake me up and I just washed my hair by myself and I'm on a walker. Haven't had new ice all night. read more

I would never trust them here, HSHS St Johns is a million times better! Memorial is trying to expand to look better. My mother was treated inpatient at Memorial Hospital for 8 days. I was with her daily to monitor her care. I could not ask for anything more. We had a truly concerned and friendly staff from the doctors down. The physical therapy and nursing staff was especially outstanding. read more

They keep sending disjointed bills and after 10 phone calls there is no department or person that can speak to me comprehensively about my 20 minute visit or explain billing. I would have given a 5 had it not been for a nurse (Kim) in the ER on the dayshift of 6/30/17. My husband was diagnosed with advanced cancer on 5/08/17 and had been a patient on the oncology floor. I'd give that floor a 5. I'd give the radiation dept a 5. However, my husband was seen for follow up by his radiation oncologist on 6/30/17. My husband's condition had declined so much that the doctor wanted him evaluated in the ER. We went to the ER and his nurse (Kim) came in and asked him a question. He attempted to answer her in his weakened voice when he looked at me to finish for him. I started to answer Kim when she turned her back on me. I asked her if she could hear me and she turned around and said "I didn't realize I had to acknowledge you". WHAT??? I reported this to the charge nurse (Alisha) and Dr. Johnston and asked she not be my husband's nurse. Kim was rude had no compassion or empathy for the people she was being PAID to take care of. You might tell Kim- if a person has a good experience they may tell a couple of people but if they have a bad experience they want to tell the world. And, to Kim, remember what they say about Karma. read more

Would give it zero stars if I could. Was admitted for low potassium, which was the side effect of a blood pressure medication. At 4 am I get woken up for medication and one of them is the very medication that is causing my low potassium - at twice the dose I had been taking. I questioned the nurse about it and she launches into this big song and dance about how this medication doesn't cause low potassium, yadda yadda. Five hours later there is a doctor in my room saying "Oh yeah, you weren't supposed to get that - my mistake for not canceling it." Then he proceeds to tell me that I need to stay another 24 hours because my potassium levels aren't coming up. Gee, I wonder why? Could it possibly be because you INCREASED the dosage of the medication that was causing the problem? Walked out AMA before they could do any more damage. read more

My mother has used Memorial several times in past and was happy with them. This time not at all. Mom had surgery for broken hip an a splint put on her arm from falling at a nursing home. They performed surgery on her on a Wed afternoon and discharged her on Friday afternoon. Said she did not need therapy after she went back to nursing home. Doctor told us that she would be kept at least 3 days after surgery and would need therapy when she first went in. We were lied to. My Mom is 93 and this is the second day she is back in nursing home and she is screaming in pain, confused because of dementia and laying in bed which she now cannot get out of and not eating.I am at a loss as to what to do. The hospital rushed her out to soon after what had to be a very hard operation for a 93 year old with dementia and a broken wrist. Have nothing good to say of this hospital, nurses were rude. will ask for different hospital if need arises again. They have expanded too much and now are only concerned with moving patients out and making money. I would give them a (-5) stars if I could. What is wrong with these institutions anymore? I've had a couple surgeries here and I won't go anywhere else. The staff for inpatient and outpatient are kind, informative, caring and have great senses of humor. They go out of their way to make you and your family comfortable and make sure you completely understand what's going on. I've sat in the cardiac care waiting room for my husband and also friends undergoing procedures. The staff was very caring and compassionate. read more

This place is a joke! Making patients sit in the hallway of an emergency department. You could hear and see everything going on around you. My 4 year old son had to see it also. It's a traumatic experience enough to be hurt let alone see everything else. I feel my son, other patients and myself were violated of our rights. Nobody should be put through that especially a 4 year old boy in pain. Family of other patients were coming up to us asking questions waking my son up who was trying to rest. We sat there for 2 and a half hours before we could get into a room and receive treatment. Very upset and disappointed. The only reason I gave them one star was because the girls who worked on my son were great. read more

By far the worst hospital experience I have ever had to be a part of; They need so much additional assistance it is unreal. My father received proper treatment in ICU but when he was admitted to the general floor no one ever even checked on him (for over three hours since he was taken down). I understand that the care and level of treatment is much different than that of an intensive care unit. However, I have had to go out of my way to seek out any nurse to be of assistance, properly inform my dad's admission to the hospital and play the run around with getting him the proper help he needs. This hospital has caused me more distress and anxiety than I have ever experienced in my entire life. The doctors are wonderful, there were a few nurses in ICU that were great. But the way this facility is ran as a whole with receiving the appropriate communication between departments, treatment and the overall organization of this facility falls short and into the hands of a patient's daughter simply trying to save her fathers life. Shame on this disorganization and lack of professionalism associated with the overall management of this facility. I advise anyone to go to elsewhere. read more
