I was very concerned as my Dad was walking 4000 step or more every day and now had severe ankle pain which he called "gout", arthritis and just old. I had arranged for his previous schedule cervical MRI to be held at St Johns and asked for cardiac consult. He discharged him early next morning. Even discharge papers say "to home" which he could not go to. He went to skilled nursing home. This DR on the ortho floor does not deserve to be caring for patients, certainly not older patients that he clearly things age is reason to just dismiss all information about them. This review is from a visitors perspective only. A visitor that was here daily for over three weeks. A family member had had a bad seizure, so I came to town for moral support and to help supply all the happy and positive vibes! Our patient was on one of the older floors that had not been remodeled so the chairs were uncomfortable. Especially after hours and hours of sitting. BUT right down the hall was a new wing that was for ICU patients and their new lounge was super nice. Nice comfy chairs. Blankets. A kitchenette with a microwave and Ice machine. Very helpful. The cafeteria here had weird hours and only certain stations were available after 2 or 3. The salad bar was fine. They also had a monthly revolving menu, so you always knew what hot bar would be available. When it comes to hospitals if you can't respect the work the nursing staff and technicians do all day everyday, you need your head checked. We appreciated all the hard work and hard things they have to do for patients who are in pain. At Saint Johns they offer up a reward program so your able to recognize and nominate a team member. We made sure to let them know how appreciated they all were everyday but also nominated the best of the best. read more

HSHS St John's Hospital - The soon to be new expansion to the ICU - Hospitals Near Me - Springfield, Illinois

On the early morning of November 10th a disabled veteran with ptsd was taken by ambulance to the ER at this hospital. This veteran has been waiting for 3 weeks to get an appointment with the VA for migraines/headaches. Dr Bloustine was the attending physician that "cared" for this disabled veteran. This veteran was cared for by being accused of "doing crack or heroin, and whatever else." Dr Bloustine showed the lowest level of care that I have seen in my 40 years of life. I was mortified. After Dr Bloustine accused said patient of doing "crack and heroin" said patient got upset and said he was leaving. Patient was met with sarcasm, and mockery by this Dr as the doctor smiling says "okay, nice to meet you, bye," then leaves the room. As the patient, myself and two others exit the room you can then see the doctor smiling at us and saying "bye-bye," as if this was some kind of joke. I come here to educated the public on one of 2 things. 1. This Dr does NOT properly care or support veterans. And 2. This shows the level of care he would provide to those who do struggle from addiction. Your life doesn't matter to him. It's under this type of gross medical negligence and serious lack of empathy is why patients don't ever walk back out of those hospital doors after going in for medical help and being made a total mockery of. This hospital is wonderful. Not only do they take care of the patient but they take care of the family. Every single person on my sisters team was amazing. Walking down the hall they all greet you and say hello. I was kept well informed about everything. read more

I had received a message that they needed to talk to me to schedule a procedure for my physician and they left message for me to call. When I attempted to return their call the first time I was placed on musac and asked to do a survey for service that I did not receive after 30 minutes and then they hung up! read more

My close friend and sister Kaii is hospitalized with you guys at the moment and the nurses have been denying her food. This is unacceptable for a hospital to be denying their patients food. I live out of state and I will vouch for my friends and family. I do not play when it comes to health. Whoever did this and is doing this I want to push to the furthest and have these "nurses" fired. This place is AWFUL! My girlfriend went into the ER because she had stomach pains that were the worst thing she's ever felt. They couldn't figure out what was going on and they gave her pain meds and sent her home. Three days later she goes back with the exact same symptoms and they want to run the exact same tests from three days prior. She says no, because they already ran them, and says she would like pain meds for how badly it hurt. The doctor had the audacity to tell her she didn't need pain medication. Luckily she was able to get an appointment with her doctor the next day. With a stethoscope, her brain, and five minutes of questions her doctor was able to guess that it was her gallbladder. An ultrasound confirmed it the next day. The bozos at St John's have the guy who went around healing the sick crucified all over the place. But when it comes to them actually taking care of someone they are severely lacking. How do you not do a ct scan or something in the ER during the second visit. I'd recommend to never use this place. In fact, if you needed an emergency room badly I'd recommend driving 5 minutes further to Memorial. read more

HSHS is not what it used to be. Very disappointed with scheduling and imaging. Appointments are rescheduled and then cancelled 1 hr before the scheduled time. I believe this is 2024 and this is something upper management needs to look into and make sure it gets corrected. I had already scheduled work time off twice because of this and I will think twice before using HSHS again. Not sure what is happening at this hospital or if the appropriate management is being informed but definitely not good for customer service. I can use Memorial and probably will for future schedules. Also, I was asked if I was a medicaid patient, does that matter??? read more

I was flown to St. John's after falling down flight of steps. They sent me home with out any pain medication with 2 broken arms. Told to schedule my own appointment with orthopedic doctor. Complained of dizziness they said meds, lasted more than month. Not impressed. read more

i have never seen such bad nursing practices in my life time. my son went to this hospital by ambulance. i can say nothing good about the nursing staff with exception of maybe one person that was there. tests were not properly done and more attention was paid to visiting with other nurses then with the sick. he left the hospital and went to memorial hospital if you have a loved one take her or him to memorial or you may lose them if you don't. memorial hospital did the proper testing and my son is on the mend finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My 93 year old mother, who is exceptionally forgetful, went to St John's in Springfield to have a pacemaker put in. She went in with 1 valuable, her glasses. She got medical transport over there and back. The glasses came up missing and per her, she told multiple people. They're supposed to a patient inventory, but their computer system was down and was down for multiple weeks, they couldn't do patient charting or multiple other critical tasks. I've been playing phone tag with them for 2 weeks. The lady in Patient Experience told me that they had no record of her glasses because their system was down. I said, "You have no backup system? And how is your system being down my mom's fault?" The lady also told me the nursing manager told her that my mom never told anyone. That's simply not true. My brother also called earlier today and per the lady, less than an hour ago, my brother said "Our mom never told anyone." Just got off the phone with my brother, he said nothing of the kind. I told the lady that this was patient care malpractice and if there was medical malpractice of a similar level, my mom would be dead. If you or your family member goes into the hospital, make sure they leave anything they possibly can at home and also make sure they have everything when they leave. Not happy with St John's, If at all possible, I'd suggest taking your business elsewhere. I am really not fond of being lied to and denying any responsibility of the patient care that was given. read more

Not a good Hospital, even more so since your love one will be alone. You can't check up on their care and you can't trust, nurses when you call they are so rude. I call the administration bout the rudeness no respond. They don't care bout your family. My mother set in ER will a high blood pressure for 4 hours, when she got back there she was in a fib. I have been an employee here the past 8 years. This is not a good place to work. The discrepancy in pay among employees is ridiculous. I have a couple of friends who work in the HsHS corporate division. They are making over 500k a year. That is not a mistype. 500k! While the little people, including myself that have the same Bachelors degree, but just don't know the right people, work with the public as greeters, schedulers, admission associates make a starting salary of around $11 an hour. They do not care about there employees at all levels. read more

The only reason I went to the ER at this hospital was b/c I was was extremely satisfied with the care my son received 2 years ago, but times have changed. I do not recommend going to the ER at this place. The doctor had no compassion and poor bedside manners. She asked me less than a hand full of questions (literally), dismissed most of my symptoms and wrote me a prescription for pain meds that I don't need. Hospital does not know how to respect patient rights. Wwnt in on March 19 for a mental health checkup. I can not wear underwear due to a skin condition. I asked the female nurses for privacy, it was denied. I was eventually forcibly strippers naked in front of 6 female staff, 1 male staff, and with the door open exposing my genetals to other patients including a child. read more

My evening started with a repeat visit to urgent care on 6th Street where the nurse practitioner deemed that she could not help my son seeing that she had previously treated him for negative strep issue number one. The nurse practitioner​ assured me that my son's issue was viral and was calling ahead to St. John hospital for blood work and a IV and we'll I've only been here waiting in a half empty ER for 4 long hours while the lost staff are too preoccupied making out in empty rooms when they should be cleaning them up or playing on their personal cell phones. This experience was really upsetting from the dirty rooms to the inexperienced staff. Horrific experience the hospital should be closed down. read more

It used to be a good place to work. Then I got fired 3 days before Christmas while I was on medical leave. The department manager didn't even have the courtesy to tell me. Found out by getting a letter from the insurance company saying my coverage was terminated due to separation. I didn't get the "feeding the hungry and shelter the homeless" Catholic experience. Best hospital in Springfield hands down! They actually care their and they know what they are doing! The hospital rooms are amazing it's almost like a hotel. They are very thorough in the emergency room. They saved my life and my brothers. If I need tests done in will drive the distance to go here! The nurses are the best! They truly care about you. The outpatient imaging and physical therapy staff at the 6th street location are truly amazing! I had physical therapy for 4 weeks, along with an MRI at HSHS St. John's. The staff are compassionate and top-notch. I actually looked forward to going to physical therapy! read more

One on the dirtiest hospitals I've ever seen. From garbage, cobwebs, food and more on the elevators to chewed up gum, dust, dirt and grime in the patient rooms under the beds and recliners. This is not a good place to come if you are severely ill!! The nursing staff are some of the most incompetent people I have ever met. They threw away my father in laws personal items and lost his dentures. They don't even know what spiriva is or how to use it. My mother in law had to teach the nurse how to do it. my sister was taken to the hospital for leg swelling. the doctors considered it a heart problem. they did several tests and kept saying they did not know what the problem was and what caused the swelling. the nurse were extremely rude and caused issues with her diabetes. The hospital did not treat her for her diabetes at all and made it worse. When she asked questions about what treatment they were doing they would not explain anything. my sister has a hearing problem and raises her voice when she talks. the hospital called security on her because she wanted food or juice for her diabetic reaction and they all said NO. You do not ever call security or treat a patient in the manner that she was treated. This hospital and all staff should be removed from practice. They do not know what to do or how to treat you read more
