Spring valley has a great ambience. My wife and I dropped in late in the afternoon after a full day of wine tasting and we really enjoyed our time. Scott in the tasting room was extremely friendly and was very attentive to us. The wine was also very good. What a great experience! We visited Walla Walla for the weekend to play some golf at Wine Valley and do a little (okay, a lot of) wine tasting. Following a friend's recommendation we reserved an afternoon tasting at Spring Valley. We went to the ranch out in Waitsburg and had a great time. They have a tasting room in town, but if you can, try to visit the ranch. We probably tasted a dozen wines, got a tour of the facility and had a chance to talk to the winemakers. Our timing was fortunate as they were just beginning the harvest, crushing grapes and beginning to make this years wine. They have a lovely little lake with a wooded grove that we used for an outdoor tasting area. Sharon did a terrific job telling us about the wines, the history and the family, who settled here into the 1860's. Wines are all estate grown, meaning all the grapes come from their property. There's a mix of single varietal, and blends, with interesting wines that you rarely see like a Petit Verdot. We liked the Frederick and Uriah (Red blends), Nina Lee (Syrah), Muleskinner (Merlot), and Katherine (Cabernet Franc). There's a lot to like here in Walla Walla. read more

This was the tasting room that was most packed during my wine tasting adventure. There were groups of friends meeting up for wine, as well as couples and members who were picking up their favorites. They also had a spread out, which was nice for those who like to complement their wine. I loved that they had a container to toss the wine that we did not like, because I ended up not liking most of the wine. They tended to be more full bodied. They also gave a truffle chocolate to pair with one of the wines...it was a beautiful match. Unfortunately though, I was not a fan of the near chaos with which the staff tended to the guests. And as noted, most of the wines in the flights didn't match my tastes at all. Won't be back. read more

This was a really enjoyable tasting room! The older guy working was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the wines and the history. 5 wines on the tasting menu and we loved all 5. We ended up leaving with bottles of the 2015 Katherine (100% Cab Franc) and the 2015 Nina Lee (Syrah). We also bought the largest box of the insane chocolates they serve with the Nina Lee. I've never paired red wine and dark chocolate before, but it might be my new thing now! These are dark truffles filled with their own Syrah-infused decadence. Absolutely delicious! Had to have them. Horrible attitudes! I wouldn't buy their wine whether it was $100 a bottle or $1. We had a CONFIRMED reservation for a private tasting - confirmed online yesterday. We show up today and knocked on the locked door. No answer. When we called, a woman said she heard and was upstairs, that they're closed except for outdoor tastings. We told her we had a confirmed private tasting (inside or out is fine with us). She interrupted and started complaining that people don't understand the rules, that the governor closed them due to covid and that we should've been notified. How about saying, sorry for the mix up. I'll come down and help you... anything! Save the complaining for off work time. Again, we were NEVER NOTIFIED that they closed. Thanks for a big waste of time. read more

It's not your imagination: Spring Valley got bigger and prettier. That's because it moved 2 doors down from its previous location on 2nd Ave., though still in the heart of downtown Walla Walla. The brighter location offsets the wine labels, which are pretty old school. I know, it's on purpose-- each wine is named and labelled for an old family relation. Thus, you have Uriah, Nina Lee, Derby, etc. I think the younger generation would find the old school "historic" labels to be a little off-putting. The wines are decent. They specialize in reds, and on a recent tasting, offered only one rose, no whites. The Uriah is often sold at Costco, so some people are familiar with this cabernet. But IMO the standout wine from what's being poured this year is the Nina Lee merlot. Bold and lush, yet with enough complicated depth to linger on the palate. The tasting included one chocolate truffle made WITH the Nina Lee wine. They paired beautifully together. Later that night, the Nina Lee went equally well with a hearty leg of lamb. Seems Spring Valley doesn't want you to have to guess their prices: every wine was $50. I know that's hefty for many. I do think the Nina Lee and Uriah would get even better with time in the cellar (or your closet) for a few years. read more

What I consumed: I had a basic tasting. Wine Quality: The wines were good. They even give you chocolate with your last taste! Environment: It's a family owned winery and that is clear from the moment you enter. There are family photos on the walls and the wines are even named for family members. Service: The host and hostess were warm and welcoming. Appearance: A little small but clean. Overall: I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town. This review is about the ranch itself, not the tasting room. 5 of us had the opportunity to go to the ranch in Sept 2016. We were greeted and handled by Sharon and had a chance to meet Serge the winemaker. It's an astonishing trip to an oasis in the middle of the wheat fields about 15 miles north of Walla Walla. To hear the story of someone who homesteaded the ground and had the fore site to dig a 1500 ft well is well worth the trip. But hang on, it get's better. So we toured the wine making facility and then went to their "site" below the ranch. I say "site" because I'm not really sure how to describe it. Physically it's a set of willow tree's and a pond down below the ranch. It's really very cool. Sharon walked us through a description of the history of the family, using the labels on the wine bottles. Just a surreal experience. This guy dug a 1500 ft well in the middle of dry land wheat farming, this person married a vaudeville dancer, this person used a mule train of x number of mules to til the ground type thing. Truly excellent. Make a reservation and go do it. read more

We had so much fun at this winery and the staff was wonderful. We came in at 4:30 hoping that they would still pour for us since they closed at 5pm. They did! We shared a tasting which they had a ton on the menu...I want to say maybe 7 wines. At the end you get a little chocolate to pair with your Syrah which was really fun. We bought a bottle of the derby wine. Definitely would come back here! Love the story of the winery and the pictures on the wall too. read more

The ranch tour and tasting was the highlight of our trip to Walla Walla. Everything was perfect, from the views of the vineyards and rolling hills on the drive out, to getting to meet the friendly crew working on production, to our wonderful host Scott, and of course the delicious wines poured in the lovely garden and pond area, each with an interesting story and label. Spring Valley Vineyard has a great story and some top notch wine. A 7 generation, 1000 acre farm converted prime grape growing land from wheat fields and vineyards; Couple that with a persistance for perfection that results in some of the best tasting wines in the region -- for me the Uriah 2009 -- and you get a great tasting experience in the heart of Downtown Walla Walla. That said, the wine does command a price, but deservingly. The people pouring behind the counter were also very friendly and genuine; they gave us good tip for visiting the area. read more

Loved the decor in this tasting room - the family pictures mounted into the walls bring the history into the room. Enjoyed the wines and loved that we could try the chocolates made with their Syrah. A quaint tasting room located in downtown Walla Walla on the winery mini-strip. Although they were recently purchased by Ste. Michelle, they have retained their mom and pop feel. Worth stopping in while you're downtown. Friendly staff - be sure to ask about the old photos on the wall. The Frederick blend is very refined and well balanced. These award-winning wines are great for the cellar - they seem to need a little more time in the bottle - and will age quite nicely. Limited selection, but what they do is done well. read more

Just spent a 3 day "Release" weekend in Walla walla and this was a high point. Great wine in the $50 range. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable very friendly. They had free bbq for the release party and they said "Go back for as many tastings as you like and go back for more grilled sausages" which were great with all the fixings. The wine was excellent and the whole thing was so low key so I said "Oh I see how you treat a stranger" We joined their wine club and took home our first two bottles. I am so happy and excited to be part of the club. read more

The wine pourer Tony was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine tasting process. He took the time to educate us on how grapes are grown for each type of wine and why different areas grow better grapes. The wine was very good though a bit expensive. We ended up purchasing a bottle for $50 which is the most we have spent on one bottle of wine, but we will save it for a special occasion and we think it will get even better with age. We would recommend stopping into this tasting room if you are touring downtown Walla Walla. read more
