It's been probably 6/7 years since I'd been there and the improvements are noticeable. The clubhouse is completely different, and absolutely stunning. They were very selective and removed trees around it giving it a beautiful view out onto the course. The interior is modern and offers a nice/modern atmosphere so you can at least understand where the increased prices have gone. The course was in impressive condition, and I'd put up against any course around. It is, extremely challenging, but with the challenge comes an absolutely unique experience that you may never forget. We didn't try much food, but, we did of course get cheese curds. They were awesome. I was disappointed to see they went away from their previous cheese curds, which, were my favorite of every where I've ever been, but they were still delicious. Often times when I find myself in beautiful places it's hard to comprehend how we can trade morning rays of sunshine through oaks and pines for glass windows and concrete. All of which I find myself asking every time I play here. The work the current owners have done has made that even more so the case. It's beautiful, from the first hole to the last and worth a shot if you're willing to lose some balls and some bucks.

The course isn't particularly challenging, but it's still not a bad track for most handicaps. The clubhouse is fine and the staff have always been friendly, though I wouldn't recommend showing up hungry since concessions are pretty basic. It's not my first choice in the area (i.e., Stoneridge or Prestwick are better choices), but it's still not a bad track.

The I do score my actual game but nice to hit another just to correct the oops. Owners are super helpful it's very relaxed. Others on the course are courteous and friendly. You could take your kids here and folks would just be happy you are spending time with them. Fish fry on Friday was really good and well you just feel at home here. Not quite sure why this is a best kept secret. After searching for a Wisconsin fish fry near where…read morewe were staying, a local steered us to the Whitehall Golf and Pub. OMG the food was amazing. The view of the golf course was beautiful. If I lived in this area, I would be here every Friday. We returned on Sunday morning for brunch. We were not disappointed. If the food and view were not enough, we were treated as if we were old friends by the restaurant staff. It was obvious, that the regular patrons were welcomed guests. More importantly, we were welcomed in the same manner. I can't wait until next year, when we return to the area for the Ashley for the Arts Festival.

It's very difficult if you don't know where to aim off the tee. Irritating actually. The terrific conditions, friendly staff and wonderful views made up for some of it. If you were a local, or played here regularly, it probably wouldn't be a problem, but for the casual traveler it could be quite disconcerting.

Even though I frequently come as a single, there has never been an issue with that. The clubhouse amenities are simple, but I think that is because it is located in a small, rural town with a regular clientele. The course is well maintained, and is a beautiful challenge for golfers when using the tees appropriate for ability levels. I really enjoy my times at Whispering Pines.
