What a killer view and two incredible 18 hole golf courses. We played a tourney here last Friday…read morewith Thrivent Financial and it was a packed field! Located above Red Wing this classic course has the lowlands and highlands which has breathtaking view of the area. The range is a mile from the course and is the only drawback, hats off to the staff and team!

We did the Highlands with a group on special at the suggestion of the clubhouse. They said it offered the majority of views and if you've never played there is the one to do. The layout for most holes is spaced out well, the course is literally cut out of the Mississippi River Valley. There are breath taking elevation changes and wide open views of the bluffs that surround Red Wing. The course itself was a little rough, bunkers weren't great, dead bumpy areas on greens and some areas under repair. Even with a couple faults the course is still a great round and makes up for it with a number of unique holes. There are multiple holes with huge distance through the woods between them, it's literally like driving a golf cart through the forest. They don't let you walk the Highlands and for good reason as the elevation changes up to 150 feet or more multiple times. We played in 4 hours so although there is a lot of driving from green to tee box it still plays pretty fast. There are extraordinarily long Par 5's, and amazingly short par 3's. The 637 yard Par 5 stands out as the longest hole I've ever played and the 84 yard par 3 is probably the shortest. The 149 yard par 3 on hole 16 is basically straight down like 125 feet and is their marquis hole, it's a strange feeling at first but a really fun golf shot. Get out here and drive a golf cart around the woods, enjoy the scenery and play a little golf.

I would give the special 4 stars all in it's own, but this is more of a combination with the golf course. We were here for a busy Saturday morning tee time, the course was moving pretty well though and we were not in a hurry so no complaints there. One thing that was unusual was a 6-some of women playing about 2-3 groups in front of us. Every where on the course you could hear the cackle of these ladies laughing and the pointless shrieks that would randomly fill the air. When we made the turn and said everything was going well except this loud group of 6, the club house didn't seem too worried about it. The front nine is definitely easier than the back, seems like it might have been around first then the back 9 was added later. The front is shorter, there are more mature trees and the greens are pretty flat, definitely some Birdie opportunities. Nothing really too special about it to tell the truth. The back 9 a little different, longer holes, more sloping hills and blind approaches which is a nice change compared to the front. If you didn't shoot well on the front then you will probably do worse on the back. Nothing fancy here, just a small town course with some decent specials.
