We had lunch at the restaurant. The food was great and the service was awesome. I had a the Alma burger. It had grilled onions, mushroom and bacon.

The Alma Hotel restaurant was the scene of my visit last night. I was there late after a long day on the road and behind the camera but the staff welcomed me into the dining room like it was 5:30 and not 8:30. It became evident this is a family affair with Mom in the kitchen and the kids waiting tables. Anna was very attentive although a little unsure of offerings from the bar. At her tender age, no surprise. I ordered the signature fish fry, I was offered vinegar or creamy coleslaw and a wide variety of potatoes. Sorry, 414s, no potato pancakes here. I ordered the two piece cod serving (you can opt for three.) I found the cod to be flaky, juicy and very tasty. I'm particularly enamored by their costing, flavorful and done to my liking. I don't get to Alma very often (2nd time in 10 years) but I'd come back here if I did go try their Broasted Chicken, I hear it's very good!

Interesting historical establishment with great food.

Interesting historical establishment. Nothing fancy with regard to ambience in the dining area, but the pan-fried walleye is second to none!

What a great find in a small town. Beautiful surroundings with excellent food. I had pan-fried walleye which was sooo good. The other 3 in our group had broasted chicken which was moist, tender, & delicious. A quaint restaurant & bar which will be around for a vrry long time. Kudos to the owners & awesome servers.

I am reviewing the dining experience only. A party of three of us went over to Wabasha, from…read moreWisconsin, for the Thanksgiving Buffet. The condition of the building is something that needs work. All areas that we saw need repair. The food tasted good, but when our time to be seated came, the buffet had run out of nearly everything. The one cook could not keep up. We went back after seeing a number of things being re-filled - sometime later. There were some menu items that must have just been out. Never saw those things re-filled. We had one glass of warm-ish tap water to drink and never got a re-fill. No one there to ask, once we were seated. My husband did get an initial cup of coffee, but the coffee ran out and there was no more made - for anyone to have. We saw the empty pots on the burners from our table. There were no servers, no people to re-fill the buffet, other than the one cook. The man seating people was dressed like he was at a truck stop - jeans and a t-shirt. We expected so much more at a Thanksgiving Buffet at $75.00 for the 3 of us. I am a former food and beverage manager and could say more, but I think they just were not prepared, not staffed and lacked some industry standards. I hope they work on some these things. The potential is there!

In my 38 year career traveling I have averaged a hotel stay minimum once a week. This hotel by far…read morewas the worst experience I've had. I wanted to experience a historic hotel having grown up in the area. My room on the 3rd floor was uncomfortably hot because it had been closed up all day allowing the sun to shine in thru 3 large windows. I noticed the other rooms doors were all open and a lot cooler. It did have some kind of vent for cooling but nothing was coming out of it. Everything at this hotel is done on line or over the phone with the host because it's a Vrbo. There is no one on premise to complain to. Being exhausted from driving all day and not in the mood to deal with getting a hold of the host to switch rooms, I stuck the provided box fan in the window and made sure it was pointed right at me the entire time. I woke at 3am covered in sweat and decided to get out of there and try to sleep in the rental car. Btw: this was the hottest day that week in June. By 5am a breeze started to blow thru the windows so I decided to shower and leave. Besides being hot, the bed squeaked everytime you moved and was extremely hard, luggage rack had to be a joke (see photo), no hangers in closet, things stuck to my bare feet from the carpet (defined not vacuumed well), huge cracks in walls (maybe historic?), floor sagged so bed was leveled with bricks, rotted window sills, cleaning products including the vacuum were left in hallway along with some white powder at the top of staircase wasn't vacuumed up. There isn't an elevator here so keep in mind what you'll need to haul up the staircase. Rooms on lower floors were higher priced. If historic means run down, then I think I'll stick with modern. This was not a cheap room, the lowest room rates in the area for that day were $150. I paid the same after taxes and a service charge.

Not a bad place at all…read more We stayed here because it was an option for a friend's wedding AND they allowed dogs! I have never been able to take my dog with me to a hotel and this was an extreme highlight. After a night of celebrating with friends we came home to my sleepy pooch and felt like we never left home. The front desk staff was kind and natural. It's an outdated place but we were treated with hospitality and kindness. The only issue was that our fridge didn't work and when we reported it a handy-person came to our door around 9am. I didn't let him in since it was just me and I was a little uncomfortable since the place is a little secluded and very quiet. He left a different mini fridge outside somewhere and we never resolved the issue. It didn't seem important enough. He was a nice guy, I just felt protective of myself and dog There's a big yard with a fire-pit in the back of the building and I think some fairgrounds down the road. Close to stores and downtown area, drive wise. I would definitely stay here again if I needed to. Our pet fee was even waived! The rooms smelled over perfumed and the TV didn't work very well but Still. 5 stars because I could bring my Pit Bull

She helped us with everything we needed, including late evening direction when google maps failed us and recommendations for a delicious breakfast spot in town. I will drive out of my way to stay here on my next trip through Wisconsin! As an extra, this is a very dog friendly inn. I did not have my dog with on this trip, but will next time I am through. I appreciate that floors are not carpeted, as in other dog friendly places, because it feels much cleaner and smells very fresh.

This motel can be summed up in two words: Old school. This was your grandparent's motel. My room…read morewas smallish but serviceable, nice firm mattress and fresh bedding. There is a dorm size refrigerator, no other appliances. There was a flat screen tv although it was a shame to take it away from its mother. They should have thrown it back and let it grow a little more. Don't turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, the candlepower puts Times Square to shame. The floor is concrete but finished with the most interesting faux marbling I've ever seen. The rate is reasonable but I would not say cheap. Cash speaks loudly here. The shower in my room was an adventure, I can't speak for the other rooms but the water was hot and plentiful. I found the largest bar of soap I've found in any hotel but be sure you have your own shampoo and such. There is no hair dryer, either. No continental breakfast included but there is a wide variety of food choices downtown, just a short drive south of the motel and good Karuba coffee at Kwik Trip. No staffing the office; there is a phone number posted on the door. Nice view of the river and I'd guess there are about 20 BNSF freight trains every hour. After the first couple of 'em, you won't even notice. And yes, I would stay here again if I found myself in the area.

I have stayed at many motels and hotels good and bad, but by far this was the worst place i have…read moreever lodged at!!! Laura, I believe it was the owner of this motel was the rudest most unprofessional innkeeper i have ever encountered! In the 2 nights my group and I stayed there (keep in mind we have stayed there for years on our annual fishing trip we do twice a year) had an attitude about everything. What pushed me over the edge was the 3 times she entered my room in the early am while i was sleeping to wake me repeatedly to ask me in a very rude and aggressive manor if my friends and I were going to stay another night. Then proceeded to tell me that she needed to know now because she did not plan on cleaning our rooms if we planned on staying another night. Im sorry but since when did it become optional to upkeep my paid room on a daily basis let alone enter my room uninvited while im sleeping? Completely unacceptable!!! To top off this "great service" she had also charged my card $40 to cancel a room that i never agreed to reserve. All of the twin sized beds they have are extremely soft. (not in a good way) My back and neck were tensed all day after sleeping in these beds. One television in 4 rooms actually worked. If you exceed 5' 8" or weigh over 160 pounds good luck getting in the bathroom because you probably wont fit. Hillcrest is conveniently located about 2 miles from the shuttle for The Great Alma Fishing Float. The only half decent thing this place had to offer was the community kitchen. It was a nice looking full kitchen and dining area. For you fishermen a nice fish cleaning area. That was located across the parking lot. Never have i encountered so much ignorance from an individual though. My opinion to you is find a different place to stay if you'd like a good night sleep, don't want to be rushed, disrespected, or ripped off!!!
