Had they said…read more"Your room is not ready yet" we would have had no problem, since the advertised check in time is indeed 3:00. But they said our room *was* ready, but if we wanted to check in early, it would cost an additional $25. Since we had a shuttle to the wedding arriving at 3:30, some of our family member and friends opted to pay the $25 fee. One friend arrived at 2:45 and they refused to let them in their room without paying. I opted to not pay (because of principle and I knew I could be ready in 30 minutes) and so I waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes. At 2:45 I walked into the lobby and stood in front of the desk waiting for the magic moment they would allow me to check into my over priced room without extorting more money from me. They finally checked me in at 2:50. The person who checked in at 2:45 and paid $25 was totally ripped off. SERIOUSLY?!?!? You are gouging your customers for absolutely no reason whatsoever. If the room is ready, why can't I check in?? The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the absolutely absurd check in policy will assure that I will never step foot in this rude, money grabbing establishment again.

The breakfast was pretty disappointing though as we are gluten free and there were little fresh offerings.

Not a bad place at all…read more We stayed here because it was an option for a friend's wedding AND they allowed dogs! I have never been able to take my dog with me to a hotel and this was an extreme highlight. After a night of celebrating with friends we came home to my sleepy pooch and felt like we never left home. The front desk staff was kind and natural. It's an outdated place but we were treated with hospitality and kindness. The only issue was that our fridge didn't work and when we reported it a handy-person came to our door around 9am. I didn't let him in since it was just me and I was a little uncomfortable since the place is a little secluded and very quiet. He left a different mini fridge outside somewhere and we never resolved the issue. It didn't seem important enough. He was a nice guy, I just felt protective of myself and dog There's a big yard with a fire-pit in the back of the building and I think some fairgrounds down the road. Close to stores and downtown area, drive wise. I would definitely stay here again if I needed to. Our pet fee was even waived! The rooms smelled over perfumed and the TV didn't work very well but Still. 5 stars because I could bring my Pit Bull

She helped us with everything we needed, including late evening direction when google maps failed us and recommendations for a delicious breakfast spot in town. I will drive out of my way to stay here on my next trip through Wisconsin! As an extra, this is a very dog friendly inn. I did not have my dog with on this trip, but will next time I am through. I appreciate that floors are not carpeted, as in other dog friendly places, because it feels much cleaner and smells very fresh.

Think of staying at one of these two renovated homes as a Bed and Breakfast without the breakfast…read more This is a fabulous self-service style vacation rental. They offer two separate places. The Joseph Fugina House has a main floor that you can rent, complete with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are three separate rooms that can be rented. They each have their own bathroom, with a shared kitchen upstairs and a shared living room downstairs. I would highly recommend looking that their website, as the photos really show how beautiful this space is. They also rent out the Prairie School House just down the street. That's a full house (no separate rooms for rent). The renovators and designers did an incredible job. Walking into the Joseph Fugina House is like stepping into a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 photo shoot. Great attention has been paid to details. Our room in the Joseph Fugina House had wonderful windows that let in a lot of light and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was also a small patio with two chairs where you could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker. The proprietors even restocked us with some Chai tea and decaff which my wife asked for! We loved our stay and would absolutely, without question, stay here again. The location is great. You can walk to town to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Guests can enjoy a 10 percent discount at The Golden Frog, a bar and grill located in downtown Fountain City. The only minor negatives would be: trains are passing by across the street about every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or can't stand that noise, you may want to go elsewhere. Also, the water was slow to get warm in the bathroom, and when it did, it didn't get real warm. We appreciated having access to a full kitchen - the ceramic dishes, real silverware, a fridge, etc. Again, the decorating was amazing. I hesitate to speak too glowingly about the place for fear that the next time we want to return, it will be booked.

We rented the suite and had the first floor of the house with more space and cost sitting spots that we knew what to do with. Wonderful!
