I ended up coming across Sprint Street and taking my car there, not sure what to expect. I was in an unfortunate situation because I had a small window before I had to start making the drive back home (which took a few hours) and I talked to Steve about my predicament. He was incredible helpful, despite being very busy, and was able to squeeze in a check-up and service. I was able to get the car temporarily fixed up, which was perfect and exactly what I needed in a pinch in order to be able to drive back home safely. Went in for an $80 oil change and came out with a $160 bill. The extra $80 was for typical unnecessary/scammy mechanic stuff: 1) burned-out license plate light (!); and 2) cabin air filter. Partner was talked into agreeing to these by the guy on the phone without realizing each would cost ~$10 for parts and take under 2 minutes to do. They billed us $30 for parts and $50 for labor, with the labor not being quantified on the receipt. These two extra items couldn't have taken them more than 5 minutes total, probably less since they're practiced at it. (Changing the cabin air filter took me 90 seconds.) I asked for a reasonable $25 refund or said I would be opening a BBB complaint because this was an outrageous rip-off, and the guy at the desk still refused to work it out. Arrogant, rude and Unwilling to give an estimate for a specific job without first receiving a $125 (if I remember correctly) diagnostic fee. They're connected to a "yelp estimate generator" then refuse to provide one. I quote, "Not worth my time to do an estimate for nothing." Lots of options, go anywhere else. read more

I work in Windsor locks and when I went to take my break today I had a flat tire! I called the Spring Street service center and they plugged my tire while I waited on a Friday with no appointment. A great place to take your car. They are fair, fair, fair and very honest. They won't sell you a thousand dollar part when they only find a loose wire, and can fix it for a few bucks. Heck, some dealerships will charge you $120 just to pull your car into their shop! I read their reviews before I took my SUV there, and it's true, they've earned all of their stars. I was traveling for nearby on business when my check engine light appeared. I called and spoke with Ben, who told me they could easily squeeze me in to see what was going on. Turns out it may have been just a computer glitch, or me not tightening my fuel cap completely. Ben and Eric walked me through what to do if it came on again (possibly catalytic converter) and did not charger me for their time. I was returning home from travel at Bradley International airport, and my car was having trouble in the parking lot. I spoke with Eric, who was happy to help and connected me with a local tow truck company. While waiting for the car to be fixed, Karen, the owner, knowing my situation that I was essentially stranded until the car was fixed, offered me lunch. Spring Street was having a cookout on the grill, and they were happy to include me. Within a 5 hour window, they were able to diagnose my issue ( frozen alternator and destroyed serpentine belt) , get a replacement alternator and serpentine belt, and install. I was on the road by 4pm that same afternoon. the customer service by Eric, Karen, and the rest of their team was great. Highly reccomend them if you are in a pinch by the airport! read more

Want to give a big Thanks to the people at Spring Street Service! I was in need of a new mechanic and was very concerned in finding a right one.  As everyone has that angst.  I am happy to say I have found one here at Spring Street.  From Eric at the front desk who took the time to listen and go back and forth with me until we were on the same page to the mechanic who actually came out to the front desk to help me understand my options.  I also appreciate that Eric made it aware to me that the original time estimated for labor for an oxidization chip replacement turned out to be less and that was taken off my bill.  They did want to drive me home but I chose to stay and wait in their very comfortable and warm waiting room with plenty to read and coffee and water on the house. read more

Did an excellent job at restoring the headlights on my 11 year old car. These had become yellowed and cloudy from oxidation and age. The tech worked for about 2 hours with the outcome that certainly could not have been achieved via a DIY kit. Reasonable cost for the effort. Headlights are like new! read more

My phenomenal auto service experience at Spring Street in Windsor Locks I am inspired to write and share with you the incredible service experience I had at Spring Street Service Center, and with Eric Carlson, who was nothing short of exceptional. I'd also like to point out that this is the first time I have ever written a review, and no, I wasn't even asked or offered to fill out any kind of survey. My Background: You see, I spent many years working in and managing auto shops - both at a dealers and independent shops, and thought I'd always treated my customers fairly, and was upfront with them regarding cost and how long a repair would take no matter what. I was blown away at how well Eric and the highly skilled technicians treated me from start to finish. The Problem: For a few weeks now, I've been hearing a ticking noise coming from the right front engine compartment of my car, but just chalked it up to its age (2000 Nissan Maxima with 185,000 miles). This past Friday, I was driving from northeast Mass. to visit my sister in Windsor, CT, (approx. 160 miles), and when I was about 15 minutes out, the dreaded 'service engine soon' light came on and had a bad engine vibration. So, I contacted my sister and brother in law for a recommendation, and they sent me to Spring Street, and I limped my car there by about 1:30 pm. The Meet: I met Eric at the service counter, and explained my situation; I am travelling from out of town for the weekend (not to mention, my car still has CA plates!). I asked if they were open Saturday (they're not), and was told maybe they'd get to check it out that afternoon, and depending upon what was needed, I'd probably be looking at Monday or Tuesday. I just casually mentioned that I'd hoped to return to Mass. Sunday afternoon. Not only did I feel out of place with a new shop, out of town, but trapped and was feeling like I could be very easily taken advantage of! Eric very calmly reassured me and answered all my questions, including when I told him my expectations for communication of the diagnosis and cost estimation approval. I was again reassured that, "We do things right here." Hmmm, this was unusual and I was becoming more comfortable with my situation. Results: Well, turns out Eric got my car in right away, two of the best techs (mechanics) worked on it, and it was running well and was ready for me to pick up by 4:30! One of my spark plugs had come loose and created a host of other issues, including the possibility of some debris from the spark plug inside the engine! We took it one step at a time. Eric communicated to me several times the diagnosis, status and the cost estimates, and calmly and very reasonably answered all my questions (I grilled him pretty well on a few things). Now, I have must confess, because I had grown more and more comfortable, there were a couple of times I preauthorized a repair to help keep things moving, because I knew if it didn't pass the next step, repairs would stop and I would get a call. Today, my car is running great and the SES light is off. And the pros at Spring Street diagnosed the issue, fixed the problem, and provided ideal timing and great service. All around it was a great experience, and I felt taken care of, not taken advantage of. And most importantly, my return trip was trouble free! Its why I brought them cookies! I heartily recommend them and suggest you check them out for your own auto service experience! Very honest and knowledgeable staff. It's hard to find a service center that you don't feel like is ripping you off, but I finally found one! My husband brought in a car with less than 80K miles because of a small oil leak, turns out it was his head gaskets, a $4,500+ job. Instead of booking the job, they gave us a print out about a technical service bulletin on the car and told us to contact Subaru AND didn't even charge for diagnosing our vehicle. What could've been an easy $4,500 for them, turned into us saving $3,000 because Subaru would partially cover the costs. We would've never known! Because of the bulletin and the credit from Subaru, we had to use the dealership for this particular fix, but we will be back here for anything else our cars need. They truly went above and beyond and didn't get a penny for their troubles, so happy we found this place. This is the only place I will bring my car. Very trustworthy and thorough. They don't try to talk you into unnecessary repairs and are never pushy. Eric, the service advisor, is patient and explains things in a way that make sense- important to me as a female who doesn't know much about cars.
