We're so happy to have found this practice! Several years ago I moved my elderly parents and their dog to CT from CA. Their dog was older and having some issues breathing on and off that previous vets in CA were dismissive of/couldn't figure out. We brought Quincy to Spring Glen and had a great experience with the vet. It was a friendly, efficient appointment with a referral to Central Animal Hospital for what ended up being a correct diagnosis by Spring Glen that needed surgical intervention. Spring Glen didn't even charge us for that visit! Years later, after Covid, we welcomed another dog to the family. If you remember how many families got dogs during that time and how it created an extreme demand on vet offices we were prepared for a long wait and hard time finding a vet taking new patients for Pip. Despite Quincy passing years before and therefore not being active patients anymore, Spring Glen welcomed us back despite the insanely full schedule. It's now been a couple years and we have zero complaints. Dr. Mags is so thorough and informative while being chatty and friendly. They're upfront and fair with billing and do a great job of explaining the pros/cons of anything discussed. We've had bad experiences with this clinic. They refused to treat our cat and wanted to put him down. We were able to find another vet who cared for our baby. The second experience was after 25 years of this practice, they refused to see our new puppy because four years had passed. Since Dr Cohen left, the practice went completely downhill. read more

I really tried with these folks. I mean REALLY tried. I brought my pup here multiple times for vaccinations and routine appointments. Every appointment was an hour plus long affair AFTER my appointment time. This was mostly comprisied of waiting for the Vet, while he helped other patients. One aggregious time i waited an additional 30 minutes after finally being placed in a room and being seen by the vets assistant. The vet was in the next room flirting with that pup's mother. I dont fault him for being human, but its on my time. The protracted waiting on multiple occasions made me think this was systemic. They also seemed to have a consistent issue faxing paperwork. While traveling we needed the vaccination records faxed to a campsite at which we were vacationing. We had asked by explicitly walking jnto the days in advance to fax the records. When areiving for our vacation we had to bargain with the camp site to let us stay, as the paperwork never made it. It also happened to be after posted hours so no one was available in the office. I had to phone a previous vet to get the docs. read more

2 minutes ago NEW I have been going to this clinic since 2019. Although I am writing this review I am totally holding account for my wrong doing as well. I came late and was told after 10 min there is a cancelation fee of $45.00 and my pet would not be seen. I came in 16 minutes late. I told them that I did not know of this. They informed me rather rudely that it has been in effect for two years and if I have been coming here for two years I would know. Yet I was never informed via email or mail that such a policy was bing adopted, I never signed in agreement and til today knew nothing of this policy. Actually i truly question the credibility of this because there have been times in the past that my wife has came late and this was not enforced. So today i was told this.....charged $45.00 and my furbaby was not seen.....No warning...no...hey because you have been with us for multiple years we will give you a one time courtesy waiver with a warning. NOPE.... TRUTHFULLY.... the $45 dollars wasn't a problem....I am financially well off so that doesn't bother me one bit. But the refusal to see my pet was a concern....considering I was a faithful customer who gave this establishment roughly four thousand dollars a year at the minimum because I brought all three of our furbabies here. I expressed my dissatisfaction and received more negative and down right rude responses.....brown hair receptionist was very condescending...and with a smirk informed me that she was the Dr's wife......ok....so.....what does this have to do with my me? Or my concern? That's none of my business....was she saying that she has a free pass to be rude because this is her husband's business? Not acceptable. Nevertheless I will not be going back....and I am happy that is his wife and a stakeholder because she will personally feel the financial loss. personally do not wish for a response....based off of other bad reviews I am noticing a pattern of condescending response remarks and everyone else is wrong but them. We've been going to Spring Glen Veterinary Clinic since we adopted our dog two and a half years ago. We chose this vet clinic because it's the closest one to where we live, and we sure lucked out. This clinic was fine for regular checkups when we first started coming here, but there's definitely been a change in atmosphere since the change in ownership. The staff is wonderful, and everyone, along with Dr. Mags, seems to genuinely care about the animals who come through here. Yesterday, I found myself struggling for about an hour trying to get a tick off my dog. While I can normally get them with our tick remover (worth its weight in gold this time of year), this tick was right on his snout, and I couldn't handle how much my dog was moving his head around and fighting with me (he doesn't like things near his face). Finally, I called the vet's office, and they said I could bring him right in. The staff got the tick right off, without any struggle from my dog at all, and they were so friendly and nice about the whole thing. Sure, wait times can be long in the morning when everyone is bringing their pets in, and regular appointments can get expensive, but I think our pets our worth it. It's a pleasant environment, and I feel totally comfortable with my little best friend in their care. read more

This is an update to a previous review. Dr. Mags is a fantastic vet, and in my years I've seen many. Dr. Mags diagnosed my dog with a then-probable mitral valve issue two and a half years ago, and he's still going today in large part because of Dr. Mags' help and referrals. He's attentive, has a seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of veterinary medicine, clearly cares about his patients and takes the time to explain his diagnoses, with an eye on the bigger picture. He and his colleagues make the extra effort to solve issues large and small, and don't charge gratuitously. Can't recommend Spring Glen enough. read more

From the moment we met Dr. Mags and his staff in January 2016, my boyfriend and I knew we'd found the perfect vet for our family's needs. As a self-proclaimed crazy cat couple, we pride ourselves on taking the best care of our cat(s) and spoil them to death. Our young boy Marty was as calm as a kitty can be at the vet thanks to the relaxed atmosphere in the office and exam room. A few days ago, we had to make the hardest choice of our lives so far. We adopted a senior kitty, Midge, at the beginning of the year. Midge had never had a home, spending most of her life on the streets, in abandoned buildings, and later in foster care and a shelter. We knew we were on borrowed time with her, but that didn't make our decision to put her down any easier. I felt my heart breaking as Dr. Mags explained the few options we had for Midge, all were very bleak and would put more strain on her already failing body. Eventually, my boyfriend and I knew what we should do, so we had her put to sleep. Dr. Mags and his assistant Sara gave us all the time we needed to spend with our little Midgie girl. I know we were both a mess, and I appreciate everything Dr. Mags did to help lead us to our decision without telling us it was our only option. Jake the Dalmatian has been coming here over the past 2 years and we've experienced nothing but great service and care. I do not know what some of these negative reviewers are talking about, we've never experienced any of it personally. More recently he has been to Spring Glen often for Ichon injections and we are very pleased. Whenever I have questions by phone or e-mail I always get a thorough response. After an initial visit last summer, Dr Mags came outside to talk with me for over 30 minutes after the visit to answer any questions and concerns my dog was experiencing during the visit. Jake is a patient at another vet as well and has been with the other vet since he was a puppy so I still use them for medical opinions too. Spring Glen vet was only intended to be for one urgent visit during covid in 2020 because they were the only vet (after calling 9 vets, including Jake's original vet) that could get him in within a couple of days rather than a couple of weeks when he hurt his leg at that time. We continue care with Spring Glen because of that initial evaluation and the well above satisfactory care we received then and since!! read more

The new Vet is very knowledgable and very friendly. Our two cats, Pickles and Peppers, don't mind going too much (at least for cats). Today he was able to get Peppers, our long haired cat, to get her blood drawn which was really helpful. We always know that the staff there are going to be responsive to any of our concerns and make great suggestions. Dr. M also made the suggestion for our Peppers to switch to just Pate canned food which greatly cut down on her hairball issue. What a big help it was to make that change, so we really appreciate it. read more

We are very happy with our experience at the Spring Glen Vet. It's no problem getting last-minute appointments, and every visit has been extremely pleasant. The doctors in particular are truly lovely; they take their time with our dog, and really just have a way of making the dog feel relaxed for his shots. I am very impressed by their bedside manner. I'll agree with some of the previous reviews that the receptionist is a bit of a character and can seem grumpy or generally kind of not a people person, but I will say she is extremely knowledgeable about things that will save us money or new products for pets. She has gone out of her way several times to tell us about new medication that will be easier for us to administer and even given us free samples. She also loves dogs and always gives my pup a pet when he comes up to her to ask for one, so that's a huge positive! read more

I had a great first experience at Spring Glen, and I'm glad to say that Dr. Mags is going to be our vet for a long time! He was not only very friendly with our dogs, but made the humans feel very comfortable in the exam room. Each of the techs we interacted with were wonderful as well. This was the first time I have seen a vet get down on the ground with my dogs and really showed them love and respect before, during, and after their exams. Dr. Mags talked to the dogs and humans throughout the process which made all parties feel well taken care of. I had a very negative experience at Spring Glen Vet. Dr. Magliula said my cat had a heart murmur, high blood pressure, and an enlarged heart. He also strongly urged a $750 cardiology consultation to determine treatment for the enlarged heart. The consultation revealed that my cat didn't have any of the conditions diagnosed by Dr. Magliula. The cardiologist said the false positives were likely caused by stress, which made sense to me since I had specifically told Dr. Magliula (when he said she had a murmur) that my cat had been very agitated in the car. He changed the subject, then advocated for the test whose results incorrectly indicated her enlarged heart. He later prescribed medication based on a blood pressure check done under clearly stressful conditions, which led to a falsely high reading. Obviously, I wish I had trusted my gut about the murmur and left right then. Remaining was an expensive and anxiety-provoking mistake. Responding to the Owner's 1/14/21 Comments: As with your non-response here, the phone call it references failed to directly address any of my concerns. It was unclear to me why your wife was also on that call since I don't know her and presumably she did not care for my cat. Immediately after I agreed to speak with you, she declared that the phone call was being recorded. (Fine with me.) Her interjections escalated an already tense situation into one that was completely unproductive. You both mischaracterized elements of my email, even after I explained them (although I don't think they need explanation). I stayed on the call for as long as you wanted to talk. There are reasons I drive an hour to see Dr. Mags after moving from New Haven. He is super compassionate and has a great personality (and actually loves my cats as much as I do). He also has a way of explaining in an understandable way what's going on, what processes/procedures entail, and what's truly necessary (read: he doesn't suggest things my cats don't really need and always gives options to limit costs). They're the best staff in-person and over the phone, especially Kayla, who I communicate with the most - always helpful and friendly. Last month, one of my cats threw up during the drive and I asked the vet tech who took them from my car for a few paper towels. He came back and insisted on cleaning the mat for me - like, insisted and would not let me do it. That was above and beyond and prompted me to write a review. Our dog unexpectedly had a medical issue and when we tried to call Spring Glen, our regular vet clinic, they were closed when we needed them. We had to take our dog to an emergency vet clinic. We made sure the emergency vet clinic had the information about our regular vet so they could send test results to them. We received a follow up call from the emergency clinic to let us know they had sent the results to Spring Glen, who never bothered to try and contact us when they were faxed the test results. Asking our usual vet clinic to give us a call even just to say they have our dog's test results is really not asking that much. We're very disappointed with this unprofessional treatment and we will not be returning. read more

I was looking to switch my vet after 11 years. My friend recommended Dr. Mags. I started using Dr. Mags in July after I had adopted my new dog from a shelter. He is a wonderful Vet. He was very patient with my dog. He sat on the floor with him and went into great detail about everything. I had my dog neutered at Nutmeg and was concerned that it may be infected nutmeg gave me a list of re checks and I contacted spring glen. They told me to come right in I got there in a half hour and they took me right in . From the moment I walked into the door I was treated with such warmth ! I have been to vets where I am rushed and blown off or the vet comes in gives the shot and leaves. Dr. Zac was hands down amazing and I mean amazing ! From the second he came in he was respectful and listened to all my concerns with my dog . He took my nursing experience and asked for my thoughts and opinions and it was a discussion about my pets best interest and I have never had an experience like that . There's nothing harder then when it come time to say goodbye to your beloved fur baby. Our baby was a 13 yr old Cavalier King Charles named Jack. I won't go into details but it had come time for us to make the decision. We were hoping to have more time but the circumstances did not allow for that. We called Spring Glen Vet and without hesitation they said they would see us right away as there had been a cancellation in the schedule. We saw Dr Maggs. He was very compassionate and understanding of our situation. He gave us all the time we needed to process what was about to happen. He answered all our questions and was extremely informative about our Jacks condition. We never once felt rushed. Although it wasn't the ideal way to say goodbye, we would one hundred percent recommend Spring Glen Vet for any of your veterinary needs. Dr Maggs and his wife made us feel comfortable and validated while still showing the compassion for us. We left there so sad but Grateful that they were there to take care of us. Warning- this is long but worth the read. Let me start off by saying I am absolutely DISGUSTED by the way Dr. Mags and his staff treated my dog and my family. A couple of years ago we adopted a senior dog into our family who was about to be brought to a shelter because his owner could no longer care for him. He was older and overweight but decided he was too lovable to not adopt him into our family. A few months ago, we noticed he was not acting the same and started crying in pain. We went to Spring Glen as a recommendation from someone. We walked up to an outdated, messy office that looked unclean and unfinished, on top of not having an actual parking spot. He evaluated my dog who had a neck injury and prescribed him medication that he knew was not strong enough to treat his injury. (He should have put him on a steroid from the beginning but gave him a NSAID instead. This screwed up his recovery time, as my dog had to wait for the NSAID to leave his system and switch over to the steroid). The next day my dog was then unable to walk at all or use the bathroom so I brought him to an emergency vet who then brought us to Pieper Memorial (if you're looking for a good vet, go there. Worth every penny and actually know what they're doing). They told us because of the injury my dog would need his bladder manually expressed which he could not tolerate due to his anxiety/pain. He needed to be catheterized and Dr. Mag's office was not equipped to handle this situation. He told us that we were being unfair to our dog and that if he was not up walking in FOUR DAYS that he was going to FORCE us to put my dog down. (Mind you it takes around SIX WEEKS for a dog to recover from this type of injury). This was completely different from Pieper, specifically Dr. Hammond's (a board certified neurologist) opinion, and stated that it was normal that my dog could not void and would need to do short term catheterization. Not at any point did the *professional veterinary neurologist* think we should euthanize our dog. Dr. Mags went so far as to contact Dr. Hammond and question his recommendation for my dog's treatment. I understand that Dr. Mags did not want to see my dog suffer, but to put a time limit on us like that when it's not his decision, and to threaten to call animal control, is completely and utterly appalling and unprofessional, especially when we were at his mercy to help our dog. Not to mention he didn't even give my poor dog a CHANCE to heal. He told us that our dog would never walk again and that if we really loved our dog we would euthanize him. (And yes, he said it just like that.) Well guess what? He started using the bathroom on his own a week and a half later. If I put my dog down, I never would have known this. My family did OVER 3 MONTHS of intensive physical therapy with him, while all also working full time and you want to know what? As of today, my dog is healed and walking again. No thanks to this horrific practice. I would have NEVER been able to witness this if I had listened to Dr. Mags. I was able to spend all this time with my dog, who was just as bright and lovable even when he couldn't walk, and more time to come now instead of just killing him without question. My family dedicated so much time and effort to care for him and not give up on him. My question is: when did we start relying on euthanasia as a first resort without having the patience and determination to heal a dog conservatively? Dr. Mags said if I didn't pay the $14,000 for surgery, he wouldn't make it. I didn't put my dog through surgery, and he healed on his own and taught himself to walk again. Dr. Mags, as a veterinarian, which you call yourself, your job is to diagnose, treat, and care for animals. Not anywhere in your scope of practice are you entitled to enforce a time limit on a dog's life nor suggest to kill one before the recovery time of their injury. You have a BAD temper, a rude attitude, and horrible bedside manner. Your casual swearing was not appreciated. read more

We've been bringing our pets to Spring Glen for about 8 years now, since we adopted our first dog. Every single visit is great, even the sad ones, because they're always there for us. They've held our hands and cried with us each time it was time to say goodbye to three of our beloved cats. The staff are always professional, always kind, and a wealth of information and support. Drs. Cohen and Weston are amazing vets AND people and we and our pets adore them both. Seriously, we have three very happy dogs every single time we bring them through that door, which I think is a testament to how great everyone is - they feel cared for and loved and that's the best thing. And with the sheer amount of visits and incidents three rambunctious, unruly hounds can bring about, having them know us and care about us is wonderful and a relief since these guys are our furry four-legged kids. They never make us feel like we're bothering them or asking a dumb question, either! We wouldn't trust our guys with anyone else! For the person who wrote the 1-star review: This practice is small and they utilize Central for a lot of bigger things, including surgery and higher tech stuff like x-rays and ultrasounds. Central is a practice unto itself, and they advertised the move to North Haven for nearly a year, in the New Haven location as well as every vet practice they reciprocate with, Spring Glen included. If your other pet was going for regular visits, then you or your wife would have likely seen the very large poster in the waiting room and the exam rooms from at least January 2013 onward. Beyond that, Maria lets everyone know for months that they moved if a visit to Central was planned, so it is really on you and your wife to make sure you're going to the right place by that point. As for the price, it likely went up if there were any complications during surgery and its on you to ask and find out why - it's also not necessarily a Spring Glen issue if your cat required more medication or specific care after surgery. As for not releasing your animal until paid in full and bringing the wrong cat to you, that's completely on Central and its staff. Central's policy is and always has been that payment is required at the time of pick up (believe me, we've been there enough times for a variety of reasons - both emergency related and for scheduled surgeries.) And it is their staff who brings the animals up from recovery/boarding, NOT Spring Glen's, so I find your review a little unfair and short-sighted toward what is a wonderful veterinary practice. read more

The Vet explained a lot of stuff about our little Sadie and she was very friendly, gave shots and the cost was reasonable and it was good for us all around. Very happy with the service we received being a new client. The place is clean and organized even while undergoing construction to update building. Went to see Dr.Mags and he knew dogs like no other vet I have been to. Update: As you can see by their response, it was a simple mistake and they are making it right. As a result, I have nothing bad to say about the vet and commend them and their practice for taking steps to fix the issue! Shows great moral character. Original post: First experience/visit was great! Very friendly staff and attentive to why I was there, couldn't have asked for better. But second experience was a little different. Staff was still friendly and great. I was getting the second shot for Lyme disease when the receptionist told me my dog was due within 3 weeks for a Bordetella vaccine and heart worm test. We recently moved here and they had copied all of his records, a little confused as I thought he was up to date and nothing needed for some time, I agreed as I wasn't positive and wanted the best for him. So a 30$ bill quickly turned into 150$. I was still confused and so when I got home, I looked at my previous vet records, all of which had been photocopied and uploaded into his chart; these indicated both of the add on tests/shots were not due for another 6 months (due in August 2019, clearly printed on his records). Although no harm was done, I feel a little cheated. Granted I should have looked at my records prior to agreeing, I went with the ease of it and had the tests done. Again, I want to say all the staff was very friendly and professional with my dog and I could not speak higher of the care he received. I'm hoping this was a simple mix-up but it did leave a bad impression. read more
