The owner even fixed up my teddy bear when I was a child after a dog ripped it apart, and altered my dress for prom. Most recently I took in a skirt to get altered and he did a phenomenal job. What a horrendous experience. Four trips to this cleaners and finally after verbally assaulting language I got my four curtain panels hemmed properly. I should have been alarmed when I was given a price of $160 to hem 4 panels of an unlined linen curtain by machine. About to walk out, the price became $120; but he wanted to charge another $30 per panel to press! When I said no, he offered to press at $20 per panel. I declined pressing, but accepted the $120 charge for hemming and had to pay up front. After getting the curtains home I realized after hanging them on one windows that 3 of the 4 panels were of varying length. Not one the length I requested. I went back to them in pouring rain and winds and was told to come back on Monday. Monday he nastily calls me to come and "the tailor will measure each panel". I couldn't get a word in to ask if they were adjusted to the required length through all his screaming, yelling and fowl language (he used the F word) both on the phone and when I went back a fourth time to pick them up again. Finally, the tailor came out and nicely measured each panel at the proper length and I left. All the owner had to do was apologize for my inconvenience and assure me the panels were now measured at the right length. Whatever happened to good customer service. I will say, once adjusted, and after four trips, the hemming was good, but I will never use this business again given the poor customer service and total lack of respect. read more

Alan has cleaned a few carpets for me over the last eight years, but recently I took advantage of a sale to have my 8x10 Persian and a 3x5 thick tibetan carpet, as well as a couple synthetic hall runners cleaned. the Persian had not been properly cleaned in a couple decades. I was over the moon with the results. even though I have a shoes off house, the amount of traffic on the Persian carpet had clearly put some grime into it that I did not realize how much until it came back so bright and soft that I was amazed. Also the fringe was getting tattered as it does with regular vacuuming and Spotless bound both edges for a very reasonable fee. I highly recommend this company, not just because Alan is a nice person but because the company does excellent work. read more

The owner was very nice and polite. I came into the business to give him hangers from prior dry-cleaning. He was happy and appreciative of receiving the hangers and told me how it will help customers save money due to costs of inflation. As a result of his positive attitude and appreciation on something small, I will be returning here for my dry cleaning. Several other places were upset they did not receive any immediate business when I gave them free hangers but did not have clothes to be laundered. The gentleman who runs/owns this place is very nice. But... do not take nice, high-quality clothing to this place! They will destroy it! I took a very expensive, loro piana sweater to get dry cleaned after ketchup spilled on it. After the "cleaning" I could see the stain was very visible and set in deeply. I took it back to them and the owner said he could try to put it in cold water! In other words, he had no clue what to do. My sweater was ruined. Maybe If your washing machine is not working and you need to clean your underwear, then maybe use this place. But please do not use their "service" for items you care about. You will be sorry! Came here after going to Red Hill Cleaners just down the street. I'd been going to RHC for about a year but the quality was so hit or miss. My wife felt like it was nearly all a miss and few garments she got back were in worse shape then when we dropped off. So, what do I do, get back on yelp and search again. Not sure how I missed spotless the first time, but 3 months in and loving these guys. Green cleaner for one and clothes come smelling fresh and clean and prices are very reasonable for Marin. They offer returning your clothes in plastic bags or without if you'd like. Take credit cards unlike My former cleaners who were cash only. There is a min on credit cards though and I believe it's $20. Very fair though. Dry cleaning and laundry have been solid here, and had a couple shirt buttons fixed and no issues. The store is nice, clean and the owner and other gentleman that work there are always nice. read more

It's been a LONG time since I've written a review, and dropping off to and picking up from Alan and his staff at Spotless Cleaners deserves more than just a simple review of 5 out of 5. Spotless Cleaners is located at: 32 Red Hill Avenue, San Anselmo, CA 94960 Ten years ago, I lived in San Anselmo. Since then, I have moved to Kentfield, Sausalito (2 locations), and now in San Rafael. I decided 10 years ago to seek an alternate cleaner from where I had been going in Mill Valley. After calling around to get prices, I found that Spotless cleaners offered very reasonable prices, and they were close by, so I decided to give them a shot. When I walked into the store I immediately felt welcome. I met Alan the owner (and his son Peter). They were (and still remain) VERY friendly and nice. I had a great feeling about this place from the get-go. My clothes were ready when I was told they would be, and the quality of service was top notch. Ten years later, I am still going there. With me, I care about consistency over time. Alan and his staff at Spotless Cleaners deliver quality, consistently cleaned and pressed clothes, exact to request hemmings, and service with a smile. I guess that is why I still drive to San Anselmo and go out of my way (even from my Sausalito days). If I could give 10 stars, I would! My husband has been going to Spotless Cleaners for 20 years so I "inherited" them. I could not be happier with the quality of work they do and attention to details. Much better than my old cleaners. You can tell Alan is a perfectionist - exactly who you want to be working with your clothes. We have also taken fine hand woven silk table cloths there, as well as leather goods. On top of that, he does BEAUTIFUL alterations. I had been coming to this guy for 3 years. I like the guy, he's friendly, I was a good customer. My wife doesn't because of an earlier incident where he discolored a favorite dress. But I stuck up for him and remained his loyal customer... TODAY HE LOST MY BUSINESS FOR GOOD. One of the shirts I picked up was clearly torn. I noticed the new tear (in the bag) and brought the shirt back to him. Suddenly my "guy" turned on me. He denied it, he called me a liar, he got weird. No fix, no replacement offer. A few weeks ago I shopped around for a good in house dry cleaner. I live in Petaluma and work in Marin so I shopped in both counties. I had slip covers for 2 sofas of fine Italian linen. The prices have increased since the previous reviews were written. I was quoted different rates for cardigans versus sweaters and am having two pairs of light weight wool slacks and a cashmere blend sweater dry cleaned. Unfortunately, there's not a rate sheet posted as there are in most places I've taken my dry cleaning to before. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE! The owner is a jerk -to say the least!! I was new to the neighborhood ... brought in cleaning and a vintage dress that needed a new zipper. The owner assured me that my dress would be ready for a wedding I was going to that next weekend. When I went to pick it up 3 days later the zipper wasn't working. He reluctantly kept it to fix it and advised that I could come the next day to pick up. When I returned the next day ( carrying my small baby) he told me that my dress was not there and would not be back until the following week. I tried to discuss it with him and he started yelling at me, calling me names and told me he refused my business and to get out of his shop! Not only was he beyond rude and insulting...he was yelling at me in front of my baby. I was outraged. Excellent! It's rare that I take time to write reviews, but Spotless Cleaners in San Anselmo has earned it. They offer very similar quality and confidence with handling expensive clothes as Peninou (who I completely respect), at far more reasonable prices. I gave them an expensive winter white coat with a bad dirt smudge and it came back looking like new! They've also cleaned very fine, expensive silk chiffon blouses to perfection. They also do an excellent job with my husband's dress shirts and understand what "heavy" starch means. The owner of Spotless is someone who still values pride in craftsmanship and is a consumate professional, taking the time to "know" his customers. I found Spotless through YELP after having a terrible experience with a long-used dry-cleaner in Mill Valley. (In short, specifically asking if they could handle an $800 Ralph Lauren winter white sweater, saying I would take it to Peninou if they were not confident, they assured me they would "speak to the plant" to take care. Needless to say it came back very "grayed" / discolored and the cashmere has lost much softness and "fluff". The shopkeeper's daughter then argued with me, made excuses, etc.) I explained this story to the owner of Spotless and asked if he would be completely honest if I gave him a garment that could not be properly handled. He took the time to explain the difference between an on-site production facility (which he has) vs. an outsourced plant. Basically, an onsite plant can provide more customized attention while an outsourced plant simply combines many garments together and this is why you get discoloration. The outsourced plant is naturally much less expensive. As with most things, you get what you pay for and Spotless in San Anselmo has found the right balance of beautiful quality at a reasonable price. read more

This shop is great! I have had my shirts professionally laundered for over 30 years and finding a good shop that does in-house laundry in addition to dry cleaning is like finding a pot of gold. The owner and his team do great work and pay attention to detail. They inspect and automatically replace smashed shirt buttons and I've never had a shirt damaged because of stains from their equipment, which caused me to leave my previous cleaner. The dry cleaning quality is top notch too. Prices are reasonable and the turn-around time is very quick. I am surprised at the negative comments about this business. I have been doing business with Spotless Cleaners at this location since 1990. The current owner is a perfectionist, and he sets a high work ethic for all of his employees. When I have any designer clothing to clean, they are always very careful to wrap the buttons, not use too high steam, and I have never had any issue with either attitude or quality. So we have been going to Spotless for a few years now, and the level of service has just been outstanding. Examples: I wear a suit/tie or dressier casual clothes for work. I have dress shirts that had lost buttons here and there, like the sleeve/cuff placket and top collar. (Not your normal suit and tie job. My clothes take a beating and a decent suit maybe lasts 2-3 years tops. ) Anyway, I brought a bunch of these shirts to Alan but forgot to point out the missing buttons. I get them back on time as promised, and all the buttons had been replaced. All of them. On 4-5 shirts. Another: I'm also a bigger guy who needs XXL in most shirts to fit chest/shoulders, but then they are too long and loose around the waist. Alan and his tailor shorten, taper, re-cut side vents, etc. They have all turned out great. And for a better price than every other tailor shop I have tried. I bought a beautiful Alice & Olivia top that was damaged. I took it to another cleaner and they said that because it was partially leather they would need to send it out and it would cost $60 and no guarantee that they could fix the spot. I took it to Spotless and Allen the owner personally called me to discuss my options. He was optimistic about spot cleaning the area and successfully got the spot out for 1/5th of the price and even called me back to let me know it worked! I have never been so offended by someone I was paying for a service .. I have now had 3 horrible experiences in a row at this cleaners and all of them were directly from the owner him self.. a. Apparently he thought I wouldn't notice that my $4 clean and press would turn into $15 each to be dry cleaned and hand ironed (the shirts were brand new never warn) but this has happened more than once b. When I brought it up each time I was met with a rediculos attitude of injustice like I somehow was out of hand for not wanting to be ripped off. c. Not ONE TIME have the clothes been ready on the day promised . Although I'm laughing at the moment while writing this that was not my original reaction. PLEASE READ THIS: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOTHES HERE!! Been taking our clothes there for years. The quality is pretty good but the customer service is horrible. Don't even think of complaining if a stain didn't come out or they've lost a garment. The owner gets really defensive and unpleasant. Picked up my clothes the other day and noticed when I was putting it away, that something was missing. I called to let them know and the owner calls me back and says "why don't you open your eyes and look more closely?", and kept on talking and eventually screaming at me and not letting me speak. My husband later went in there to discuss it with him and and the owner told him he didn't want our business and told him to F off and get out of his store! The guy is a jerk. Seriously? That's the best way to speak to your customers? My husband and I were shocked. Don't recommend them. There are plenty of other places with competitive pricing and equal quality in San Rafael. read more

I will post this review in two parts because it is long, but informative... Part 1: I will start by saying that I am comforted in reading that others have had the experience of Allen, the owner of Spotless Cleaners, turning on them. I really don't think he cares, about his customers and maybe his business (as hard as this is to believe); certainly not his reputation. His actions (as other point out) reflect this lack of care and my experience today is almost beyond explanation, but here I go. My family (my wife & me + two kids) have been customers of the San Anselmo Spotless Cleaners (32 Red Hill) since 2006. My wife brings all my dress shirts plus her dry cleaning to Allen. My wife is usually there once a week; we have done ample business with this establishment on a regular basis. I only wear suits on the road, so only have dry cleaning every so often, but need my suits cleaned on average once every four to six months. I mostly have higher-end Italian suits (reason for calling this out follows, but it goes with Allen's focus on "quality"). Allen likes to explain his businesses as a higher-end cleaner (thus justifying the $3.00/shirt, approx $15/suit, etc. prices). I am happy to pay for quality service and again, have done so for years. In addition, they claim to do all the work on the premise, which I have always thought is a pro (though I can't really explain why). For whatever reason the past two times Allen has dry cleaned my Zenga 'Trofeo' suit (again, naming so readers have a sense for the quality of the garment) numerous buttons have come back broken (i.e., the buttons are significantly cracked and/or chipped). The first time I figured it was a complete accident and didn't say anything. The second time I thought that maybe the buttons were the issue, but I spoke to the people at the Zenga store (where I had to go to get the buttons replaced) and they assured me, with a confident smile, that it is not the buttons...this is high quality stuff (as I already knew, but was perplexed so I asked). So before getting my suit cleaned this past time (again at this establishment), I pointed out to Tau, the gentleman who helps Allen behind the desk, that the prior two dry cleanings resulted in broken buttons and I asked if they could clean the suit without breaking the buttons. He said 'yes,' I asked again with a friendly smile if he was sure, he smiled back and assured me. Nice guy. read more

I've had good luck here, after making the rounds at Maxwell, Marin Cleaners, etc. and ultimately having things damaged or lost. You have enough clothes cleaned, you'll run into issues. It just comes with the territory perhaps. But I've never had problems here and the service is great. read more

These poor reviews don't make sense to me, according to my experience with Spotless Cleaners and the owners. They've always shown me their dedication to their business, and the work has always been exemplary. Their tailor made alterations on formal wear for me and the result was as though I'd been fitted for a brand new Brioni or the like, the trousers and dinner jacket wearing so well for the important event I attended. These attitudes which the other reviews complain about mystify me; I've never seen anything like it there. I'm current, too, as I just dropped off a few things there today. read more
