This is the best place for all your eye care needs. Family owned, local, and friendly. I love that they are the only ones in town who can put in my prescription to any frames I find. Also, I love their goggle inserts. Highly recommend! read more

Thank you so much for helping me to navigate through your sports frames and lenses. I bought a pair of Mt. Falcon frames with your proprietary lenses and I have to say they are fantastic.  In fact, I cannot believe how good these are compared to a pair of curved lenses I bought from a national manufacturer.  These are flawless.  I bought them to play pickle ball indoors in the evening because my regular glasses were sliding all over the place and I was constantly adjusting them.  Also, sweating was just ruining the frame.  After I found out they were safety rated, I also took them to the gun range to skeet shoot.  I think this really helped my shooting because they were not sliding all over the place and the lens clarity was phenomenal.  The one thing I would tell any buyer that is going to use these for sports or shooting is to not get bifocals and just distance correction like you recommended.  Several years ago, I heard from a tennis pro that it is very difficult to play tennis in bifocals, but I never paid attention to that advice previously.  Alex, told me the same thing. I was really nervous just putting distance correction in the frames because I was afraid they would not be functional, but they are far superior to any frame and lens that I have ever used- and I have owned quite a few frames and lenses. read more

Great selection in eyewear, wonderful customer service, employees are very knowledgeable, helpful and honest. They were great in making sure my glasses worked for me even though they had to be exchanged. Love doing business with a local company that stands by their word and makes things right. Highly recommend Sports Optical!!!!! You won't be disappointed. RH 3/2022 read more

I can't say enough great things about this business. I will try to be detailed as I can. When I walked in someone greeted my pretty quick, I forget his name but there was ZERO pressure, he answered all my questions, didnt interupt me, as Im sure, he has heard most of my questions hundreds of times before. I told him what I wanted, Oakley flank with Transitions, and I wanted the progressive bi-focals, why I wanted them, he said they would have to send those off to cali to get made, it would take about 3 weeks to get back. I said that would be fine, I asked what the out the door price be? he told me, I said that was to much that I could get the exact same thing online for lots less, he asked where? I told him, he said yea, you're right. So I asked, do you offer a military discount? he said yes, and gave me the new OTD price, my reply was "Lets do it" he said great. So I paid in full right there. Normally I would only like to pay for a deposit at this point but the sales guy was great, not pushy, polite and just seemed he wanted to help so I had no issues. He told me it would be about 3 weeks for them to come in and they will call and email when the glasses are here. They came in a week early, I got the call and email. These glasses are perfect, Cusomter Service was Great, I highly recommend them. read more

Sports Optical - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Two of us went to Sports Optical to get prescription shooting glasses. Everyone there was very helpful in showing us the options and making suggestions. We were able to take different colored lenses outside to help deciding what would suite our needs. Once the glasses were ready Brett was especially helpful in fitting them properly. Unfortunately, one lens did not seem quite right for me. After wearing them several times I returned to the store with my concerns. The staff readily agreed to remake one lens with a slight prescription adjustment at no cost. With this outstanding customer service and value Sports Optical is highly recommended. read more

Bought prescription ski goggle inserts. Fast service, great product, fair price. Highly recommend for any sport or optical need.

I have used Sports Optical for over ten years to make custom transition lenses for my Rudy Project glasses for cycling. The curved lenses are a challenge to get right. I tried other shops for a while and they could never get them right. S.O. consistently gets it right and the staff is very friendly, and efficient. I live on the East coast and working with S.O. thought the internet and phone has worked very well. Thanks S.O. read more

As pleased as I am with the product- very!- the customer service is superior to any I the industry. Very prompt and responsive. I believe that a superior product with poor customer service is not worth the trouble. Whereas a mediocre product with superior customer service is worth the price. In this case, the product is great and the people behind it are exemplary! read more

Is calling Bret, the owner of Sports Optical a "miracle worker" overkill? My eyes and wind don't work well together. So when I do high-speed activities (like ski or bike) my contacts dry up and fall out. Which is a problem during high-speed activities. So when I took up triathlons this past year, I was having all kinds of trouble keeping my contacts in my eyes. When I say I tried everything--I mean I tried everything! Finally, I went to Bret at SO. He was super knowledgeable, had a great selection of eyewear, and was really patient and committed to finding me some eyewear that worked. He always said "We'll find you something that will work" and he was totally right. If you are an athlete who needs sports eyewear THIS is the place to go. Also, if you're looking for some sweet prescription non-athletic eyewear SO has some really cool designer eyewear that you won't find anywhere else. Lots of cool, contemporary frames that will have your friends asking "where'd you get those cool glasses?" So yeah... Lasik = no miracle workers. Sports Optical = miracle workers! read more

These guys are amazing. I have a high prescription (-6.00 in one eye) and Sports Optical managed to make prescription lenses for a pair of Oakley Turbine's (Base Curve 8..Whoa!) with 0 distortion. I've actually had an easier time adjusting to these than a new pair of flat lens prescription glasses. Oakley actually turned me away and said my prescription was too high. Brett laughed when I told him that. They are the best. Not too sure what else to say. read more

So you may be an athlete who gets a little older and their vision has failed them. Rather than dealing with squinting while playing, or have the fear of taking a hit and having a contact pop out, why not get some prescription sunglasses made? Sports Optical has an amazing selection of sunglasses and sports goggles in a really cool location in the Tennyson Arts district (AKA the Highlands). The owner is also the glasses maker and he can answer any questions you have. read more

I've been wearing glasses since I was in first grade and for the first time ever I was excited about my experience. The crew at SO are super knowledgeable and friendly. They carry a great selection of frames; some super funky and unique, others just have small details that are just different enough and they also carry more traditional styles - all are great quality. I have been to just about every big box glasses provider and I paid far less at this local business for a pair of beautiful frames I actually love with the ultra light lenses I need. read more

I stumbled across these guys when they were on Tennyson and love what they do... I've trekked to their new location because of their ability to make great prescription eyewear for cycling and safety glasses. Fair prices and great service. read more

I have gone to Sports Optical for years, and consider it to be one of the greatest finds in Denver. Bret has done some really unique frames for myself, my son, and my wife. When things didn't fit or come out just right, he made sure to take them back and make them right. I have a 100% satisfaction rating with everything I've ever gotten there. I have had prescription googles, work frames for at the hospital, sport shades, sunglasses, and awesome everyday frames all done there. The staff can match anyone to a special frame that fits them. And they're fun. Quick turn around times, and fabulous prices for the quality you get. It's even a dog friendly shop! How can you go wrong?! Stop in, look around. You'll be glad you did. It's small, friendly, and has such a unique selection of glasses married with the cool feel of the shop. But beware, because these guys will turn you into spectacle collectors! Our collection grows year after year. (And a heartfelt thanks to Bret and all the folks at Sports Optical!! You guys rock) read more

I'm a very satisfied customer . . . for the second time. Great business to work with - good choice of sunglasses frames for cycling, lots of different lens colors and mirrors finishes, and they manage to make your Rx fit in sunglasses that other vendors say can't work. Will definitely go back to Sports Optical when it's time for a new pair! read more

Sent Andrew at Sports Optical some lenses for hydrophobic coating and today had my first SUP surf session ever without lens fogging. Those various other lens solutions and waxes, of which I have tried many, very quickly wash off in the sea water. Fast one-day turnaround, reasonable fee and express shipment to me while on travel. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

This review is long overdue. I purchased my last pair of glasses from here a while back and was thoroughly impressed with the selection, service and value. I didn't say price, I said value and for a reason. If you want a pair of ho-hum glasses that will break in a year that no one will notice and costs less than $120 including a second pair for free, try Wal-Mart. Keep in mind though, they'll charge you extra for all the little add-ons and hidden fees. This is not Wal-Mart. The prices on lenses are very comparable though, but the frames will cost you more... but for good reason. The styles and quality of the frames are light-years ahead of the chains, and compared to other boutique eye wear shops, this place is a steal. I know because I was desperate and needed glasses quickly, so I bought some Paul Frank's (that people still comment on almost daily). I was curious and went home and shopped to see what they were going for elsewhere. He probably could have gouged me, but as it turned out... I saved about $90. With those savings I could go buy a pair of crap frames at Wal-Mart. ... I won't, but I could. read more

I was so impressed by Sports Optical after my first visit there several months ago. I live in the neighborhood and stopped in to check out what they offered in terms of prescription eyewear. Brett was knowledgeable and helpful and I decided that I would definitely come to him for my next pair of glasses. I love the fact that they offer special glasses that can easily be converted to computer glasses. As I am also a contact lens wearer, I depend on sunglasses. I buy a new pair of good sunglasses every 8-10 years and take very good care of them. I've owned several types over the years including Ray-Ban, Revo, Oakley and Maui Jim. I personally prefer Maui Jim sunglasses because of the fit, the durability and the quality of the lenses (personal preference). I decided it was time to replace my sunglasses and stopped in to Sports Optical to see what they offered. They have several sunglasses displays in the store. I informed the salesperson that I need to buy new sunglasses and asked if they carried Maui Jim. He replied that they don't carry Maui Jim because it's part of Luxottica, implying that they ONLY support independent manufacturers. Hmmm, I thought, that doesn't seem right. Based on Internet research I confirmed that Maui Jim is an independent manufacturer (not part of Luxottica). Also, Oakley (the brand that Sports Optical sells) is in fact part of Luxottica. So much for supporting independent manufacturers. Honestly, I was pretty pissed off about my experience so I decided to call the store to let them know that their salesperson had given me the wrong information. I was not angry nor accusatory in any way. I just let her know that I had been given wrong information and that I was disappointed because I just wanted to do business with a local store. She was completely unapologetic and basically just said that yes, they sell Oakley which is part of Luxottica and they don't like Maui Jim. Period... So I guess Sports Optical doesn't want my business. read more

When you see the inventory at SO it becomes obvious that Bret has a passion for glasses. Some frames are simple and non desrcript, others are loud and hip, but all are classy, elegant, and unique. He is dedicated to finding you the perfect glasses. Bret continued to recommend lots of frames from different styles until we found the perfect pair. I purchased prescription sunglasses for whitewater kayaking and another pair of regular glasses for work. I left the store happy and excited to finally own glasses I will enjoy for years. read more

Bret and staff deliver the utmost in patient care, and the team has done everything possible to exceed my expectations. Outstanding!! Hubby very pleased with his prescription goggles. Quick turn around.

This review is for an online order from their Exotic Eyewear division as I've never been to the store. Great customer service and highly recommended! read more

I have been buying glasses and sunglasses from Bret at Sports optical for over 15 years since he was located off of 6th Ave in Lakewood. He is a true craftsman when it comes to making a shaping a lens to whatever you'd like. I had a pair of half framed sunglasses, and didn't like how the stock lens quite covered my face. When it came down to getting the prescription lenses made Bret was able to change the lens shape to extend a little in a couple of different directions to give me the coverage I was looking for. I wear my prescription glasses for golf, shooting, bird hunting, cycling and just everyday use. The best thing about Bret's lenses is that there is absolutely no distortion when looking out of any direction of the lens, something that I haven't found with any other lenses, which includes Oakley, Ray-ban and Maui Jim. Bottom line is, if you are looking for a high quality lens, built to the most exacting specifications you need to go see Bret at Sports Optical. If you are sick of your prescription lenses not giving you the clarity you want, go see Bret. In addition to sunglasses, Sports Optical has the most unique and thorough collection of frames you will find. From red carbon fiber, to green plastic with tortoise earpieces, you'll find something that is unique to you and your styling. Sports Optical is the only place I purchase my eyewear from. Since he's been at his Tennyson location I've gotten 4 pairs of standard glasses, 4 sunglasses with multiple lenses one pair of prescription ski goggles. read more

These folks are great!!! Superb treatment and class. I will bring them my business again and again!

I have had my vision assisted by lenses since I was 13. Over the years I have never been able to move to contacts which has made it very difficult to wear fashionable or sporty sunglasses. Sports Optical changed all of that. They were able to fit my prescription into a set of Oakley frames that even Oakley said could not be done. They do not look awkward and unless I point it out people have no idea they are prescription. I chose rose lenses with red mirror and they are great all for all around sunny use until sundown. I also have to mention that these guys shipped me glasses to chose from, made my custom lenses and had finished pair in my hands quicker than my local optometrist could put together a standard set of lenses. Kyle, Randi and Brett, thank you! I have already come back for another set of lenses and I will be back for more! read more

I was very satisfied with my original purchase of Rudy Project prescription sunglasses. Prompt service and great vision with the glasses. But then these guys went above and beyond just normal good service. I had an accident on my bike and did a face plant. Gouged/scratched both lenses. I contacted Kyle at Sports Optical to see about replacement lenses. Cost was about half of my original purchase price -- pretty good, I thought. Then a few hours later I get another e-mail. Because I had bought a non-scratch coating, they were covered under warranty (I bought them almost 2 years ago). They certainly didn't have to cover an accident that was my own fault. Great customer service, great products, great people there. I won't go anywhere else. read more
