Driving across the great state of Montana can be trying at times. Long stretches of nothingness,…read moreinterspersed with small towns. You find yourself lulled into lethargic automation. Breaking the speed limit, then crawling at a snails pace down mainstreet, time and again. It was during one of the speeding events, that something caught my eye. A small sign, FROSTEES, ahead in Poplar. Just what I needed to break the monotony. A nice creamy soft serve ice cream cone. My anticipation for the confection was weighing heavy on my mind, as well as my foot! I found myself speeding ever faster to get closer to refreshment. Finally, I crept into Poplar. On my left stood Frostees. It wasn't as I had imagined. I pictured it being a thriving enterprise. With cars and townsfolk crowding the place, enjoying cones, burgers and the like. Instead, I found a somewhat dilapidated building, with one truck out front, and lights flickering inside. It looked like someone was in there, so I pulled over and went inside. I asked for a medium twist soft serve, chocolate and vanilla. The lady obliged. It looked delicious, glistening in the flickering light. But the dream of creamy delight caressing my tongue, was dashed at first lick. It was soft serve death. Ice crystals. Kind of a melted popsicle in a cake cone. Blah! But I was determined to finish it nonetheless. I figured I'd make my way outside to polish it off. As I walked across the lot to my car, I spotted, out of the corner of my eye, three unsavory looking characters lurking behind the building. Not wanting to tangled with the local ruffians, I made tracks. I should have kept my eyes closed when passing that sign. Had I though, I may not be here pecking out this review. Lucky you! LoL! Quick Tip: When traveling through Montana and the sweet tooth kicks in, risk the ticket to speed somewhere else other than Frostees.

They are overpriced and the inexperienced staff rarely get it right. I remembered why I don't go here and I'm local. If it was in any larger town it would have closed long ago. Don't believe the pictures, all of the food pictures ain't theirs except for maybe the one of the nachos.

Culver's is an attractive restaurant highlighted with bright blue awnings…read more Culver's excels at frozen custard, but not so much with other food items. Oh, service is notably extra friendly here. I know that concrete custard has been around a while, but I had my first experience with it at Culver's. I ordered the vanilla concrete custard mixer. They have a couple dozen toppings you can add to your mixer, though I just got mine with cookie dough bits. I loved it! Yay to concrete custard! I ordered the Butter Burger Cheese. It was okay, but I didn't like that they used iceberg lettuce and the cheese on the burger wasn't melted. The fish sandwich was probably the best thing we ordered, even if the fish portion wasn't the biggest. The onion rings were soggy and limp. Also the beer-batter flavor was a flop making the onion rings sour. The crinkle-cut fries really weren't much better. They had a sort of a nasty crispy texture. I'd stick to the frozen custard at Culver's.

I parked at curbside pickup and waited 10 more minutes until someone came by and asked if I had ordered. Obviously I had. I was in curbside pickup. 10 more minutes pass Still nothing. I call them to see what's taking so long. They say it's almost ready 10 MORE MINUTES PASS I then call to ask for a refund because I want to leave this ninth circle of hell and suddenly they arrive with extremely cold food that was probably just sitting there. If it takes this long to get food, it's not fast food!! Half an hour isn't even normal for most sit-down restaurants, especially not for cold, soggy food! Hire more staff, you may be getting short-term profits from your skeleton crew but it cannot sustain itself. We will never return and will urge any other people not to eat here, this was an awful experience.

Came in with relatively low expectations only to be pleasantly surprised. We were seated…read moreimmediately and it was pretty dang busy. We ordered the giant pizza pretzel immediately & opted to wait to see just how big it was before choosing a meal. Well, it's "no meal needed even when sharing" big. In the words of my hubby, "this should come with a warning" - pro tip: add the cheese sauce along with the marinara. Yes, it costs extra & totally worth it. It's a soft bread-style pretzel, not the traditional style. Think traditional peperoni pizza shaped like a pretzel. It's tasty! Now, I've seen complaints about no house brews. There were 3 house brews on tap when we were in. I will say you had to look for it on the menu. It wasn't in your face visible on the menu. The hubs tried 2 and said they were ok. I had the Summit Oatmeal Stout and it was deliciously creamy. Stuffed beyond reason, we still ordered the pretzel bread pudding with ice-cream. I was already tapped out and this was another giant serving. He gave it his all but it was another DNF. All in all, service & the food were good & the house beer decent. While the prices seemed high, the portions were huge, making the price per pound reasonable, imo. On exit, the sofa in the den-style seating area caught my eye. I told the hubs to offer them $3k for it... upon reflecting, I'd bump up to $5k - swoon!

Out-of-this-world good every bite feels like it was made with care and flavor in mind. From juicy burgers to perfectly cooked steaks and fresh apps, everything hits the spot. The drink menu is massive they've got a craft beer selection that could make a brewer jealous, plus cocktails that are dangerously smooth and totally worth the splurge. And the vibe? Unreal. The decor is freaking awesome a mix of rustic charm and modern flair that makes you want to hang out for hours. Whether you're grabbing dinner with friends, catching a game, or just soaking up the energy, this is the spot in town. Bottom line: Great food, killer drinks, and a vibe that can't be beat.
