It would help if they implemented a limit of tickets sold for an allotted time of skating. They don't have skating aids / props to help beginners learn, but definitely don't have the space for it either. Lots of people using the rails on the perimeter of the rink to learn to skate.

The nice lady working got us set up with rental skates for myself and my youngest, who needed the smallest possible skate they make! For kids, its the same admission price whether they need rental skates or not. Under 3 is free. For myself it was $20 but if you have your own skates it would be $16. While they were a bit late in having the ice ready on time, once the Zamboni finished up, the rink was open to the public. It was slow at first and then got pretty busy. They also ended up blocking off one corner of the rink for what looked like a kids hockey lesson. It felt a bit crowded after that. Overall, the ice was good, the prices are fair, and this rink has the longest public skate sessions (about 3 hours!) of the two main ice arenas in the area. My kids and I enjoyed skating here and we will certainly return.

The desk employee went from bleacher to bleacher yelling who has an animal here. I stood up and said I do and it's an emotional support animal and I have my papers with me. Not only was the deck clerk very hostile and loud she knew nothing about California emotional support animal laws for the state. It was a very embarrassing situation. We have only been to this rink twice around the same time each year. The snack bar was close the vending machine was empty and there was nothing for anyone to eat or drink during a free public skate. There are, however, a few downsides: - Parking can be crazy and $$ if it's high ski season (though today I got very lucky and snagged a free spot up close since there's very little snow on the mountains) - The rink is not well maintained. The Zamboni comes out so rarely that in all of my years visiting, I've only seen it ONCE. That makes for a choppy, slushy mess of a rink and explains why this place clears out pretty quickly sometimes. Not fun. - There are a LOT of first-time skaters here from tots to adults. (The bigger they are, the harder they fall!) This is not your typical New England hockey rink or even your Midwest mall rink. No amenities exist like the assisted skate thing that kids hold onto while they learn to skate (there would be no room for that anyhow; see next bullet). Expect to get plowed into once or twice. - The rink is REALLY small. Your feet will hurt from making tight turns and avoiding flying ninja turtles (see previous bullet). They don't prescribe a direction to skate, but everyone generally skates counter-clockwise. - There's rarely, if ever, anyone official on the ice. Don't expect to have anyone monitoring skaters or providing first-aid assistance. Welcome to the wild west! The best part is that it's free to skate (skate rentals are extra) and the surrounding area is full of comfy seats near fire pits and overhead heaters. Sometimes there's a live band, which makes for an even better skating experience (otherwise there's not really any music, so I'd advise packing your iPod). You can also enjoy the smells of the surrounding restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries as you weave around scared adults or conga-line dancing teens. And once you've had your fill of dodging bad skaters all afternoon, just mosey on up to one of the many bars in the village and relax with a beer!

I had no idea about the gondolas til I saw a flier at our hotel lobby. I only read Google reviews & many complained about the price. We ordered our tickets online & didn't care for the activities. Adult price $84 (and something new is guests can have unlimited rides up/ down) through tour the day!). We grabbed a Gondola ride & $30 lunch voucher $110. Absolutely worth the price. Yes, food is pricey up there, but- I think it's expected. I didn't read anything about bringing your own food. There are tables & chairs near Tamarack Lodge. The $30 voucher worked perfect for me. A cup of Mac & Cheese & a cup of Chili (cornbread included) is $9.74 each. I snagged some oyster crackers & bottled water. Since I grabbed an Angry Orchard can- I came out of pocket $13. It was a way to start July 1st off. We enjoyed the clear summer skies sitting outside. Some of the tables had an umbrella. Jenga is provided on some tables and corn hole is near by. The Observation Deck is highest elevation at 9735 ft & Tamarack Lodge/ final stop is 9150 ft. There are some trails to walk along at both stops and bathrooms are spacious. Gift shop at Observation Deck & Cafe Bleu. If you wanna get a pick of the Heavenly signage- walk immediately to the left when you get off the gondola and walk towards the first set of stairs. You'll see it below with corn hole & some chairs to take in the view. If you bought your tickets online, you do NOT need to fill out the paper waivers at the ticket window. You can also proceed to a separate line designated for online purchases. There is a ticket booth at the top level for activities if you'd like to purchase as well. Opens at 11:30am.

The ride…read moreitself is exciting as you are slowly being carried above the trees to your first stop which is the Observation Deck. It's a quick little stop that lets you walk on the deck to look at a distance at Lake Tahoe and lets you take in the scene. It's definitely beautiful! While you're up there, you can check out the "Heavenly" sign and take some memorable photos. But other than that, there wasn't much else to do. Hopping back onto the gondola takes you to the very top where you can do various activities (hiking, mountain coaster, rock wall climbing, tubing, zip-lining, etc). Of all the activities, I'd say the only one really worth doing is the mountain coaster, which I'd give it a solid 7/10. When the ride starts, it feels like it takes about 5-7 minutes of a slow ascent to reach the top before you really zip through the course. The speed feels great and it's exhilarating! I just wish it was a slightly longer ride and that it didn't take so long to reach the top to begin the true descent. Zip-Lining was a huge let-down, which I give it a solid 2/10. We geared up with equipment that felt like it was 20 lbs, which is about normal in these cases. However, once you have the equipment on, you need to walk over to the ski lift which is about 50 feet away to take you to a higher elevation where the zip-lining starts. Once you depart the ski lift, you are then to walk up a few flights of stairs. After a literal breath-taking trek just to start the activity, I was immediately disappointed when the doors opened and I started my descent down. I've been on a few zip-lines, and this has got to be the slowest zip-line I have ever witnessed. It was not exhilarating or even worth mentioning to our friends. I was very let down due to the fact that we did so much physical prep and the outcome was not worth it. After being let down by the slow zip line, I decided to hop back onto the mountain coaster to fulfill the rush I felt like I was missing. I didn't bother trying out the other activities they offered, as they just did not appeal to me.

First of all, the ice is great here and it's a great place to skate. If you aren't wanting to go to South Lake Tahoe, this is really your only other option. They hold many events here including the amateur hockey team games and the UNR team games, so the rink is well kept. The lessons have been decent quality. Most instructors are young ladies, likely high school students, but they do a good enough job for my 4 year old. You get a fair price for a few months of lessons and you get some free public skate passes included. This is a great perk if you can make their public skate work in your schedule. Most of the times are during the workday and school day, there are not many weekend sessions available. (See photo of January 2026 calendar). Not ideal for a working family. My biggest issue with Reno Ice and the reason for four stars is that the communication is not good. They rarely answer the phone when you call, and if they do, it's likely the employee won't know the answer to your questions. The skate lessons are very challenging and confusing to sign up for and no one is really able to help you or explain it to you. Most front desk attendants are young and they aren't able to help you much if it's outside the realm of handing you rental skates and checking you in. Additionally, we showed up for lessons one night and the rink was completely shut down due to a refrigerant leak. While I realize this is a major emergency, a quick email to families enrolled in lessons would have been great and saved us a drive from Carson City. Don't get me wrong, this is a great place to skate, but there is certainly room for improvement in some areas of running a business. Bundle up, bring the fam, and enjoy a skate session here!

This location is about 20 minutes away from downtown Truckee and 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. There is a separate members entrance away from the main hotel. Upon arrival we met our valet Daniel. He took our bags and met us up at our room. Marcella provided excellent customer service upon check in and was very helpful, welcoming and informative. There are three choices for members to select- two bedrooms, three bedrooms and four bedrooms which all include a kitchen with Viking appliances (Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave), a dining room, living room, washer and dryer, and each bedroom has their own desk area and master suite bath room with heated floors. Each of the bathrooms are stocked with Bvlgari soaps and shampoos. They also have a gym with state of the art equipment, bottled water in the fridge and headphones. If you are booked for spa appointments do note that the club residences are quite a hike and on the opposite end of the property in relation to the spa which is located in the hotel. If you have allergies (like I do) feel free to request a feather free room. The housekeeping staff was amazing- attentive without being intrusive. My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this Ritz Carlton Destination Property. There are two types of memberships for the Ritz Carlton properties: 1. Portfolio Membership 2. Home Club Membership Out of the two the Portfolio Membership provides greater travel ability to enjoy the different properties. The Home Club Membership is a good option for those who have a favorite place that they like to vacation to yearly. The beds didn't have a down alternative which made sleeping uncomfortable but I was assured they would be ordering a down alternative for those with down feather allergies. What would have made this a five star experience would have been the lack of rudeness my husband and I experienced from Nancy in the concierge office. This Ritz Carlton Destination Club is perfect for those who love to ski and be outdoors. This property is almost two years old and is just lovely.

The booking process was easy, the staff was friendly and responsive, and all of the follow-up emails and confirmations made everything feel well organized. The location was also fantastic and made it easy to get around during the event. There were only a couple of minor downsides. The biggest one was the lack of air conditioning in the main living area. There was a portable A/C unit in the bedroom, which helped while sleeping, but it was fairly loud. During the day, the living room stayed quite warm until the evening cooled things off. I ended up leaving the windows and patio door open most of the time for airflow. I also couldn't quite figure out how to properly lock or secure the patio door when it was closed. It may have just been user error, but some simple instructions would have been helpful. One other note, while not really the property's fault. They recommended a shuttle service from the Reno airport. Booking online was easy enough ($95 from RNO), but after receiving my confirmation email I tried calling, texting, and even reaching out via WhatsApp several times with a couple of questions and never received a response. Thankfully, the shuttle did show up (about 10 minutes late), and everything worked out. Other than those few things, I really enjoyed my stay and would absolutely stay here again. Having a full kitchen was a nice bonus, and next time I'd probably arrange for a grocery delivery instead of eating out for every meal. It would save a fair bit of money, especially if you're staying for a conference or event.

I had no idea this was here and it's been not only a fun history lesson but neat to be so close to the elements, buildings, photos, stories and land where the first western USA Olympics took place. What a great experience. Gondola patrons lovely. Lift just to left of the slopes much busier and end of day skiers can be a bit nasty. Over all good experience anyway. $0.00 to park and right next to the Olympic village. You're just steps away from the lifts.

I had a great time skiing at Mt. Rose. There's a variety of terrain from beginner to advance, high…read morespeed lifts, and easy access to lodging. The mountain offers everything from mom runs, to terrain parks, to the more challenging runs for expert skiers. It wasn't crowded during our visit and there are two high-speed 6-person lifts, so the lines were short. We stayed at the Hyatt Place in Reno, that's only about 25 minutes away, and has a great free breakfast. The roads were clear, so it was any easy drive to the slopes from our hotel. It's a great family resort, with a lot to offer.
