It's not really MY thing, but my husband seemed to like it just fine. I have to say, it's incredibly clean in there. The whole concept just seems so gross and unclean to me, but they do a beautiful job of keeping it very clean in there. Staff is not very friendly - in fact, as we were leaving my husband told the girls behind the counter to have a nice day, and nothing - not a peep out of them. No thank you for coming, no have a nice day, no see ya - nothing. Rude if you ask me. BUT whatever, it's clean as can be and not at all icky in there. If I liked frozen yogurt/softserve I'm sure I'd be all over it... They have an enormous topping section from cereal, to jelly beans, to fresh fruit. Caramel, hot fudge, peanut butter to top with too. There were a dozen or more yogurt flavors, I believe. Overall, 4 stars because they manage to turn what sounds like such a gross concept to me into something very clean and streamlined. read more

Ya, the atmosphere is OK. The line is SLOW....it's all based on how fast the fella is in front of you. Got up to the counter and paid $18 for 38 oz!!! REALLY? INSANE prices if you ask me. I think 48 cents an oz is a rip off, not a deal. Prices weren't even listed when I was there. Briq's is waaaay less expensive and much better tasting. You can get a 16 oz cone for $2.70 or 16.9 cents an oz.....now we're talking!!! Overhead seems pretty low for having to serve yourself. It's a brilliant concept for the owner.....Have the customer serve themselves an unknown amount (there are no scales to even see how much you dispensed in your dish), and then make them pay an absurd amount that they can't negotiate. Ya can't return it!....although if I were smarter I would have just walked away. Flavor-wise we had a resounding "YUCK" (this is from kids and adults alike)....the only chocolate flavor available that day was Malted Milk. Tasted sour. We also tried the raspberry, which was okay. Nothing spectacular. Overheard one Mom say to her kids after paying..."And you will eat every last drop!".....ya never typically hear a Mom say that to kids when they get ice cream. Overall, nothing really special about Spoon N'Yogurt. Just something new to try....and then NEVER return. I give the place a year tops and the 'kitchy-ness' will subside. read more

I was raised on the west coast where frozen yogurt can be found on nearly every corner. When I moved out to Wausau, I was quite sad to give up my fro-yo addiction. Needless to say, when I heard Spoon-n-Yogurt was coming to Washington Square, I was thrilled! I was there on opening day and although the .48 an ounce was steep (almost twice as much as what I paid back home) I understood that this was a novelty for our small town and was just happy to have the frozen yogurt option. The shop itself is nicely decorated with colorful tile and light wood floors. I admire that the owner came out of retirement (after being a sheriff for over 20 years!) to bring an innovative idea to Wausau, but truth is, he should have studied up about opening a business. The machines are almost always out of the "good" flavors, or working too hard to keep up with the demand. The employees are not very informative or helpful and can barely run the register. At one point when they tried several times to run my card, I suggested that the phone line might be in use, sure enough someone was using the phone in back and tying up the credit card machine. The scales seem to be off. It seems with the coupon to get 4 oz free, I paid more for approximately the same size as I did without the coupon. I was willing to forgive, as I understand new businesses sometimes have bumps in the road, but today I walked in, ready to purchase, and saw that they raised their prices AND changed their minimum order for credit card purchases from $3.50 to $10.00. Well, I rarely carry cash and I had no intention of spending $10.00 on yogurt, so I left and went to Sweet Lola's and got some ice cream for much less money and hassle. Bottom line, this business has a ton of potential, but it is being ran quite poorly. It's sink or swim time for Spoon-n-Yogurt and the owner needs to make some significant changes if he wants to keep his business afloat. The concept is brilliant and in the right hands, it could succeed. But for now, I guess I will enjoy my frozen yogurt as a rare treat outside of Wausau. read more

I work within walking distance of Spoon-n-Yogurt and was very excited to hear Wausau was getting a frozen yogurt shop! I went the second week they were open with a number of my coworkers, even after hearing that is was expensive. All the girls that had gone before told me that they were paying at least $5 and change every time they had gone, so I brought a $10 and joined the pack. The atmosphere is very colorful, and the toppings are fresh. The yogurt tastes like your typical frozen yogurt, and I do like having control of how much and what I eat, but that's really where my likes stop and my dislikes start. First of all, their prices have been inconsistent. I usually get the same size container every time I go and fill it to the same level every time. The first few times, I paid more than $5, then all of a sudden, it's $3 and change, then $4 and change. I don't know if it was the tare weight on their scale? Now, they've jacked the price up from $0.48 an ounce to $0.52 an ounce and they've barely been open two months. Secondly, I only had a few dollars in cash with me one time when I went, so I told the kid behind the counter to apply my $4 in cash to the purchase, then put the balance on my card (this was before they instituted the $3.50 then later $10 minimum for credit card transactions) and he was totally dumbfounded as to how he was going to accomplish this task. I too am of the calculator generation, but I've operated a few cash registers and POS machines in my day and I probably could have figured this out without looking too hard. Once I decided that using my cash wasn't going to be an option, I just asked him to put the whole thing on my card instead...but someone was on the phone. After looking around nervously for a few minutes, another employee stepped up to the plate to tell me that they only have one phone line, so they can't run a credit card at the same time someone is making a call. In this day and age, when so many credit cards offer cash back rewards, there are a lot of people like myself who rarely carry cash. I've used my credit card to purchase a pack of gum and didn't bat an eyelash. If they want to remain competitive, they need to be able to accept credit/debit cards for all amounts. I realize that they have to pay a percentage on all credit card transactions, but that should be figured into operating costs. Bottom line, after the price increase, the inconsistency and the ban on small credit card transactions, I don't think I'll be going back. I hear Wausau is getting a new Frozen Yogurt joint where the Cold Stone Creamery used to be...I'll go there instead. read more

This place is so cool! I've seen this stuff in Florida and Vegas, and I love that it's here now. The people are all super friendly, and it's really clean. It's also a great bargain at just 48 cents an ounce. Oh yeah, they also have rocking cookies. read more

I have been to Spoon -n-Yogert twice. Once I had the sorbet which was delicious on a very hot afternoon during the kayak races. The second time, my husband and I had the frozen chocolate yogert which was good too. I like the colorful decore and found the shop a nice change from the standard drive in ice cream cone spots. I and my family really enjoyed our visit to Spoon-n-Yogurt. The space is beautiful and fun, and the service line very well organized. Besides the great yogurt - we're from California and have tried lots! - the selection of fresh toppings was outstanding. The price was reasonable for the great quality (and - urp - large quantity...), and I will definitely go back next time I'm in town! read more
