I have been a loyal regular at Spondivits, visiting once or twice a week for the excellent atmosphere and the great service from my usual bartender, Karl. While the seafood is consistently good, my experience last Sunday during the World Cup Finals completely altered my perspective on this establishment. Because the restaurant was busy and Karl was not working, I sat with a new female bartender who provided excellent customer service. However, a mistake occurred when she accidentally brought out a crab bucket instead of my usual shrimp bucket order. She was very polite and immediately took it back to correct it. While I was waiting, a white manager with tattoo name (I believe name Justin) approached me and aggressively stated that he does not typically remove items from tickets. When I politely explained that I did not order the crab bucket and am a frequent guest, he became highly disrespectful, raised his voice, and told me I could leave if I don't like his attitude. Though he eventually changed his attitude and adjusted the bill after I offered to just pay and leave, the experience was entirely ruined. The bartender apologized multiple times, but the unprofessional behavior came entirely from management. Due to this severe lack of respect and poor leadership, I will not be returning to what used to be my favorite local spot. read more

Went to Spondivits and ordered Andy's Special Recipe Oysters and the Lobster and Crab Bucket. The oysters were really good, loaded with cheese and garlic butter without completely overpowering the oysters themselves. The Lobster and Crab Bucket was the standout though. A full pound of snow crab and lobster tails served with garlic butter, and it was messy in the best way possible. Definitely not a clean meal, but completely worth it. Everything tasted fresh and the garlic butter tied it all together really well. The whole place had a casual seafood spot feel to it, and the portions were solid. If you go, just accept that you probably won't be touching your phone until you're done eating. read more

A friend said, "Let's go to lunch and get out of the house." Sure, why not. We were originally on our way to Hapeville, but she saw this spot on the way and changed her mind. I have lived here 19 years, and I have never been to Spondivits. The long line of people standing outside always made me go elsewhere. There was no line today. Perfect. We were seated in a booth that had open windows to the outside. The place is very rustic, like a hole in the wall. The sever brought us the menus and took our drink orders. They make some really good brewed iced tea. It was sweet and not watered down. We ordered an appetizer of Fried Calamari and raw Oysters. My friend enjoyed her oysters. The Calamari was deep fried, but it had a light batter. In my opinion, it needed a different batter and some seasoning. Next, we had seafood platters and some crab cakes. The platter was in a small plastic tray. It looked like it wasn't a lot of food, but there was quite a bit there. It consisted of shrimp, oysters, and clams, all fried with French fries. Again, the food lacked seasoning, but it was edible. The crab cakes were super tasty and filled with butter. I was not impressed by the food. I really wanted to like it but in my opinion the prices do not compare to the quality of the dishes. The food is expensive. We spent $170 and that did not include alcohol or dessert. Not the freshest food, that's an outright lie. I live on MS Gulf Coast, we have the freshest shrimp, fish, oysters and blue crabs in the south. The restaurant owners meet the boats everyday and buy fresh seafood and cook for the public. While they have to go to a sea port truck it in freeze it to cook the next day. Too expensive, we get fresh shrimp off the boats for 2-4 dollars a lb. Oysters off the boat 6-8 dollars a lb. Please! We buy blue crabby by the bushels cheap. The cost was $30 which is excessive for shrimp slightly larger than popcorn and served on plastic baskets. The server was quite friendly. 20% is automatically added for gratuity, but I don't mind that when the service is good, which it was. I do think their prices are too high compared to the quality, size or portions, and ambiance of the restaurant. For reference, a crab bucket is about $85....you can go to somewhere much more high scale and nicer for the same price. It's unfortunate they gouge in this way. The Bar at Spondivits is nice to sit at, its lively, you watch the game but the bar stools are too low. They really need to fix that. The drinks are stronger & good. I had the Chowder Kennebunkport Bowl which is topped with melted cheese & bacon it also comes with Garlic bread. Also, on this day it was $21 95. It was extremely salty and I was unable enjoy or finish eating the soup. I explained this to the waitress and she only replied, ' Ill let them know'. Nothing else was said, nor did I ask for a Manager as I would normally do, I just couldnt be bothered on a Monday. My friend had ordered the 1/2 dozen of Andy's Special Recipe Oysters, which she loved she said it was the closest thing to char-grilled Oysters & the side of sauce which ended up being Horseradished based she loved it as well, it had a little kick. The bucket of crab legs she ordered was 1lb you have to pay for a side of old bay and they provide a garlic butter. Also, my friend wanted to add another 1/ dozen Andy's Special Oysters to make it a a dozen and to also pay the price for a full and the told her that was not an option & if she wanted 6 more she would need to pay the 1/2 dozen price. Its the ignorance to think thats Princess treatment when he just stepped his dirty shoes on the chair & didn't think it needed to be cleaned off for me to continue sitting in the seat. ‍ I dont frequent Spondivits, I can tell you one thing it will remain that way. I see different menus online with varying price ranges. I wonder if they have menus for certain days or they give ppl different menus based on if they think they have money to spend. I will still continue not to frequent Spondivits as it is a staple in the Hapeville area but the prices are extremely high. The crab bucket was delicious, the oysters were as well, the Chowder soup was salty AF and some of the rules of not accommodating customers are ridiculous. The place could use a little updating, the bathroom was clean and they are unisex, the drinks at the bar are strong. I definitely would recommend Spondivits but be prepared to spend some money. I'm sorry to report that the food Quality has dropped tremendously. I'm not sure if it's the economy or what. My my king crab legs was good. My shrimp is as ok not to mention my coconut shrimp had a hair. If you know like I know Spondivits pride themselves on not taking anything back. So they took my coconut back looks like the removed the hair from the one shrimp and dropped that one back in the grease and put it back on the plate. It was the only one hit when returned still in the same form dripping with oil, that's a redrop in fryer. My snow crab legs was not fresh at all. The way I know snow crabs weren't fresh were when they had an egg like taste and very difficult to come out of the shell. My wife ordered the Catch of the day (Halibut) and it seemed to also not be fresh with the evidence of her being sick for the rest of the night. Soooo good!!! Someone recommended this place for dinner while we were visiting from VA. The seafood was served fresh and hot! The shrimp were so plump and juicy, the oysters were the perfect size and cooked perfectly, the clams were so good! Not too chewy like some places. Our waitress was very nice and patient. I am appalled and deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism and integrity displayed during my visit to Spondivits on the evening of May 7 around 8 PM. I went with friends, looking forward to enjoying a good meal and relaxing atmosphere. Unfortunately, what I experienced was far from acceptable. Our server, a young woman named Erin, took our orders. I specifically asked for a Crown Apple and cranberry--a drink I'm very particular about because Crown Apple is the only alcohol I drink. When Erin repeated the order back, she said "Crown and cranberry," and I immediately corrected her by emphasizing that I requested Crown Apple. Despite that, the drink that arrived was clearly made with regular Crown, not Crown Apple. I took one sip and instantly knew it was wrong. When I brought this to Erin's attention, she followed protocol and notified the manager, Brandon. That's when things took a turn for the worse. Brandon approached the table with a bottle of Crown Apple in hand and insisted that my drink did contain Crown Apple, claiming that there was no regular Crown in the building at all. He even said, "I don't drink--I haven't had a drink in 13 years--but I'm not calling you a liar, you're just mistaken." That statement alone was incredibly condescending. I asked him or the bartender to taste the drink and verify it--he refused. I calmly reiterated that I know the difference, and that the drink was not made with Crown Apple. I left the drink on the edge of the table, disappointed and frustrated. About ten minutes later, the bartender, Amira, approached me with a new drink in hand and a sincere apology. She explained that she had just opened a fresh bottle of Crown Apple, and wanted me to taste it. Sure enough, that was the drink I had originally ordered. This proved everything I had said from the beginning. Brandon was completely wrong--there was clearly regular Crown available behind the bar, and he insisted otherwise. Not only did he argue with a customer, but he also effectively called me dishonest, and refused to take proper steps to verify the situation. Instead of investigating with the staff or simply admitting a possible mistake, he chose to dig his heels in and create unnecessary tension. Even though he eventually returned to apologize, the damage was done. His apology felt hollow and far too late after doubling down and treating me like I didn't know what I was talking about. On the other hand, Erin and Amira handled the situation gracefully. Erin alerted the bartender, and Amira took responsibility and corrected the error--as any good professional should. This experience highlights a bigger issue with the way Spondivits enforces its policies. While I understand and respect that a business can have firm rules, there must be room for accountability. Mistakes happen. But when management is more interested in defending the establishment than listening to the customer or seeking the truth, that's a problem. To Spondivits: do better. You lost my trust and my respect today night. There are too many seafood spots in Atlanta that serve great food without the arrogance and without the rigid, dismissive attitude toward their customers. And to Brandon: learn how to speak to people. Learn how to investigate concerns instead of assuming your guests are wrong. It's called customer service. I paid for my food and my drink--but I couldn't wait to write this review. This experience was unacceptable, and I hope it prompts a serious look at how your management team handles conflict and accountability. read more

Visiting from out of town and the minute I walked into this place I knew I had hit gold. It was perfect! Really comfortable, super chill and definitely not stuffy. I sat at the bar where Packer fan Kent took great care of me. He was friendly, made great conversation, never let my beer go dry and guided me through the menu perfectly. Fun place to get some inland seafood. Spondivits wasn't far from the ATL airport, and so my cousin and I tried this place out during my layover. Vanessa was a capable server. She made sure to give us enough time to lollygag and gave us some advice on what we really wanted. I tried the grilled fish sandwich, and it was cooked fresh. It did not taste dry or overcooked. Plenty of fries on the side. My cousin enjoyed the same sandwich, but ordered the fish blackened. It also look good. We ordered a Cajun Shrimp appetizer. It came with six shrimp and we hot and flavorful. We also enjoyed some clam chowder - which Vanessa subliminally offered before and then we tried them. The restaurant is fairly tight. It seems like it's a shotgun style design. There are booths on the left side, and tables and the bar on the right side. The booth side looks tight, but had plenty of room. The place looks old like the inside of a ship, but the tables were clean, and the service was attendant. Overall the trip to Spondivits was fine. On an overnight layover we were on the hunt for food and didn't think we had that many options because it was midnight. Fun fact this place is opened I believe until 2 AM on a Saturday. If this restaurant can come to Port St. Lucie, Florida and open up, I would greatly appreciate it because this place is boring AF. I stuck with the crab bisque. I have been to so many restaurants in and around Boston trying crab bisque, and this place puts them all to shame. The flavor and texture was fantastic. You have the option of cup or bowl and I recommend getting the bowl. My husband got the chicken sandwich which I had a couple bites of and didn't care for. But honestly, who gets a chicken sandwich at a seafood restaurant. Not gonna lie, this is not the first time he has ordered an inappropriate dish for what the restaurant is known for. He was happy with it so I guess that's all it matters. He travels a lot for work so he will definitely be keeping this place in mine next time he is in Atlanta. Oh and my server was awesome but they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity on any bill over $50.00 dollars and call you cheap if you don't want to leave that much tip! As a long time Atlanta resident, we valued our opportunities to eat at Spondivit's. Having moved to South Florida, we try to visit whenever in town visiting relatives. Never had a bad meal and the staff have always been friendly. Can't get this seafood experience in South Florida and we live on the intracoastal. Yes their parking is limited to valet, but there just isn't any place to park since the land across the street was developed. Yes the prices are higher than McDonald's next door, but this isn't McDonalds. Yes the price includes a modest 18% gratuity to protect their employees.
