This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a local business. I ordered 3 cords of seasoned firewood to be delivered an stacked at my house. The total for the wood and stacking was $705, which was on par with other firewood providers. Their website was fine and seemed legitimate, though now that I have looked it over, I notice that there is no address for the business. When I was working with them to schedule the firewood delivery, they informed me that I needed to pay in cash (which should have thrown up a red flag). They came and delivered and stacked the wood as planned, and I paid them $705 in cash. Shortly after they left, I decided to measure the wood because it was smaller stack than I was expecting for 3 cords (I know, I should have done this before I paid them). What I found is that i received nothing close to 3 cords of wood. 3 cords should have occupied about 384 cubic feet - the wood they had delivered occupied about 290 cubic feet, so I was shorted about 0.75 cords of wood (about $175 worth of wood). I immediately called their phone number and I was told that my message would be relayed to the owner and I would be taken care of. After hearing nothing for about 3 hours, I called the number again and I was told again that the owner was not "back" yet and I would be hearing from him shortly. I did not hear back that day, so I called again the next day (in the evening). At this point it had been about 24 hours since the wood had been delivered. The woman again told me that the owner would get back to me - surely that night. I told her that they were welcome to come and measure the wood themselves, and since they stacked it they knew I did not move any of it. I left the conversation a bit frustrated, but at least expecting to hear back from the owner. Again, i heard nothing the rest of that day or night until I checked my email. I had received a VERY poorly written email that essentially stated that they don't think they slighted me, but to throw me a bone they would provide 1/4 cord of additional wood. I responded stating that I was slighted 3/4 cord of wood, and that they could come and measure to verify. I was not going to negotiate - I paid for 3 cords so I should get 3 cords. I stated that I paid for a product and service that I had not fully received, and that if they did not make it right, they were thieves (I was a little pissed). The next day I received a belligerent voicemail filled with profanities from the owner telling me to talk to his lawyer and that they would not deliver the wood I was missing. He followed that up with another belligerent email - the first line is "I am mad with how you have acted with this hole problem. I own 4 company's and never had a problem that was unsettled". I calmly responded that I was not going to sue him over $175 of firewood, and that i was only asking for what I paid for. I left it up to him to make things right, and after about another 2 weeks, he dropped an additional half-cord of "junk" wood in my driveway. It was mostly rotten, not cut to length, deformed pieces of junk wood. It is pretty much impossible to burn this wood unless i am running a very hot fire with the flu mostly open. Bottom line, don't buy anything from Splitz Firewood or any other company that this owner works for or "owns". read more
