My friend saw a promotion on their IG page for SERVE hosted by Catinni P. Vandon and we decided to come here for a night out with friends. The cover fee was $10. We got in around 10pm and the show started. People kept coming in and the next thing you know, this place was packed, both downstairs and upstairs. The show was entertaining. Catinni is a great host! Once the show ends, downstairs become a dance floor, just like upstairs. We wanted to buy a bottle but they said they needed an advance notice, like a week in advance. I used to LOVE coming here but after having liquid drip from the ceiling(?), slipping walking down the stairs because of said liquid on the floor/stairs (no wet floor/caution sign) ,and seeing the barback grab handfuls of cherries out of the container with NO gloves...it's hard to like coming here anymore. We were really excited to check this place out, but unfortunately it ended up being a huge disappointment. The security guy at the door was great--friendly and welcoming. Sadly, the bar service was the complete opposite. I only ordered 2 drinks at the pace and tipped nicely since i know the industry and i am a bartender myself. First, i ordered a beer and a drink for my wife. Took time wirh my beer. Approach the bar seats and left my half beer on the bar for a second the girl barback cleared my beer before I had even finished it. I didn't make a big deal out of it. Maybe she saw something i didn't. Later, while I was waiting for my karaoke song, I ordered an Old Fashioned. I had nearly half of it left, set it on the bar for a moment, and when I turned back, the barback had taken that too. I let the bartender know, and instead of apologizing, he immediately told me it wasn't true. After I insisted I wasn't lying, he finally offered to make me another drink. Instead of replacing my Old Fashioned, he handed me what was supposed to be a margarita, but it tasted more like lemonade. I had paid for a whiskey cocktail and received something completely different. I didn't want to make a bigger scene. I'm a bartender myself, so I understand mistakes happen. But the bartender's attitude and lack of professionalism were unacceptable. The karaoke was decent, but because of the service, I wouldn't come back. I lived in san jose for a couple of years. I would come to this place and enjoy my time there. I came back after a couple of years and man. I was really sad its not what it used to. Its not the place but the staff. This place was supposed to be a welcoming and safe haven for karaoke enthusiasts, especially on a Tuesday night. However, my experience has been far from that. Kyle (KJ Big Dog) seems to have favorites and dislikes, which results in unfair rotations. Even if you arrive on time or a few minutes early, you might end up on the end of the second rotation or even the third rotation. And let me tell you, the wait can be an hour or more. It's ironic how he talks about rules at the start of each rotation, claiming to "attempt to be fair." But "attempt" is a weak word when it comes to Kyle. The rotation is inherently unfair. This behavior is not only disappointing but also frustrating. It's clear that Kyle has a deep-seated hatred for the LGBTQ+ community, and he's using his position as a Splash employee to promote hate at a gay bar. Splash highly praises a fun and safe environment, but Kyle's actions contradict that message. I've endured countless times where Kyle has consistently failed to be fair. Every time I come here, I feel like a victim. I question whether I'll regret coming or not. I have high hopes that Kyle will eventually "try" to be fair, but that's not happening. He's just a horrible KJ who does what he thinks is okay, and it's not okay. What really pushed me to write this review was the time I spent waiting for two hours and a half to sing one song on a slow day. He had the same singers sing twice, and the he sang a song every rotation and was always the first one to sing. Karaoke hog. I hope they talk to Kyle and do something about this. Anyway, I don't ever plan to come back here for karaoke. I'll save Kyle from having to hate on me again. Guys-- if you don't want to wait an hour or more to sing a song, I don't recommend coming here. Don't waste your time for one song. I hope this review finds everyone well. read more

The crowd was diverse, welcoming, and full of positive vibes. Everyone was just there to have a good time and celebrate being themselves, which made it feel like a big family reunion. The bartenders were super friendly and made some strong, tasty drinks (major bonus!). And we loved that there were different spaces to enjoy--whether you wanted to dance, chill, or chat with new people. It meant so much to us to celebrate our marriage in a place that felt safe, inclusive, and full of joy. The DJ did a great job remixing songs to dance to.The drinks average around $15. They have an outdoor area that is upstairs. They yell at you like they are guards at a prison. The staff remind me of people that have never had any type of authority in their life, now they have this chance of authority, and abuse it. My friends have been kicked out out for linking arms going down the stairs, yelled at to get lost when arriving at 1:00 sharp, yelled at and kicked out in a sarcastic way for holding a vape on the balcony, yelled at by the bar tender for grabbing an orange for our shot when they didn't offer. Terrible front door customer service! My boyfriend uses his ID everywhere. Never had a problem for some reason. At splash they dropped my friend's ID right away. And when I handed my ID, they grabbed my boyfriend's first and told him right away. He needed a passport, but yet he can use it at a liquor store or any other type of store and never has any type of problem and we've been to multiple clubs and had never a problem. I been coming here for the past 9 years with my fiancé and this use to be out spot now it's not. We were having drinks and was at the small tables by the bathroom. One of their shows started and we wasn't even paying attention to it and I can see the speaker or whoever was quit annoyed. I went to use the bathroom keep in mind there's no sign or no barrier that says you cannot use the restrooms while a show is going on. While I'm in the bathroom this drag queen comes and starts to pounding on the door telling me to get out I'm being disrespectful towards the show. He was cussing me out calling me disrespectful so Eventually I told him to shut up and stop yelling at me. As I started to walk towards to bathroom upstairs he ran to the security and said don't let me use the bathroom I have to leave. So at this point I'm heated. I have to go to the bathroom of course I'm not gonna be nice. Of course I'm gonna be cursing back at him. I asked to speak to the manager. They played dumb and They acted unprofessional. They were laughing at us, they just kept telling us leave. They wouldn't let us get our belongings. How are you going to serve people drinks all night and then refuse them to use your bathroom. The sassiness of the workers this night was insane and unbelievable. I couldn't believe how we were treated it goes both ways you cuss somebody out you're laughing at them you're telling them they're disrespectful. How do they expect patrons to react back . So they ended up kicking us out and told us we weren't allowed back there. We've been going here for the past nine years and probably have spent thousands of dollars here. Not a safe place for LGBT people. It's taken over by straight people. Was assaulted by a straight person and management didn't do anything, in fact I was kicked out too, didn't fight back and didn't argue with management. After filing a police report and communicating to management, they did nothing to help review the ID checks or cameras to give to the police and my case was closed because the police don't have enough resources and have more important things to do. Been going to this bar for many years and appalled to learn they really don't care about their patrons and will allow anyone and anything to happen inside without consequences. Be careful about going here even if it's caught on camera- they don't care. Security here is worthless. The bar has changed over the years with new staff and management who don't care. Came here for clubbing on a weekend as well as for trivia night on a Tuesday. The staff is very friendly and the security is thorough. The only thing keeping me from going more often as a barhopping stop is the $10 cover fee. My first time was for clubbing on a Saturday night in the winter. Both levels of the club were packed. My friends ordered AMFs and they were crazy strong. You get the bang for your buck here. I think the time to gather for trivia night is 7:30 but they started around 8/8:15 PM. Different hosts have different play styles (as in now they encourage participation, reading scores, etc.). The game had pop-culture references as well as historical and general knowledge. Seeing people go crazy for the beer round was funny--wish we won! It was cool seeing how different the club looked on a weekday too. There seemed to be regular players. As a queer person myself, it was nice to see the SJ LGBTQ+ community come enjoy themselves. I hope to attend a drag show or go to one of their other themed nights sometime soon! read more

I wanted to have a fun night, I waited in line, I was ready to pay their cover fee but the bouncer denied me entry specifically saying " WE DO NOT accept WORK AUTHORIZATION CARDS...CA ID or GREEN CARD ONLY" I tried explaining that my ID was federal and valid, even showed them my CA ID that had expired a week ago which was why I was showing them my valid work permit while I waited for CA ID. The experience was very off putting, I thought I was coming to splash for a safe queer space, ID checks for age not for DISCRIMINATION. I love the crowd this bar brings in but the staff at this bar is so rude, they do not need to be working in customer service roles. Especially the short weird looking man at the exit door. Splash Video Dance Bar and Silicon Valley Pride know how to provide LGBTQ entertainment in San Jose. Splash has been on my radar for quite some time. Because it's located perpendicular to First Street light rail tracks, I always thought it was a tiny bar. But I was wrong. This is the best, biggest and loudest gay bar in San Jose that I've ever seen. Back in my time living in Silicon Valley, I thought Club Saint John's (later became Hamburger Mary) at San Pedro Square was big before the turn of century. Splash has a dance floor on each story of this 2-story building. There's a patio upstairs, I assume it is for smokers. (I heard it has patio. I'll check it out next time.) The building is built weird. The patio is on top of another dance club and there's a rainbow flag hanging from the patio railing of this gay bar. I thought the entrance below the flag was Splash. So I led a group of friends and waited in line for 40 minutes to find out we were waiting to get into a straight bar. (I'm sure we were not the only ones mistaken) Video dance bars are popular in the big cities. But I have not even been to one until Splash. It's so much fun dance to the beat of music synchronized with the specially edited videos on those monitors. The night we went, there were 3 go-go dancers on 3 separate stages surrounding the dance floor. Upstairs dance floor was so packed. The music was more upbeat and clientele was also different. We had to turn around and go back to downstairs because I felt claustrophobic. Cover charge is $10 cash only. Oh. I repeat CASH ONLY the entire gay bar. I think it's fair for the bar owner not to deal with credit cards. Cash is the king (or queen, in this matter). Oooooohhhhh! Yes. This place is the spot if you want bomb music to boo your head to and/or get your dance on. Perfect for singles, groups, duos, and all genders. I came here on a Sunday night to support my girl Aurora as she hosted her Wet and Wild Drag show on Sunday. The crowd was diverse, friendly, and everyone was there just to have a good time which always makes for good vibes. I highly suggest to stop by on a Sunday. It's not too crowded where it is uncomfortable but enough people to vibe on each other's energy. Don't forget to come with cash. There was no cover for Sunday but it is a cash bar however there's an ATM machine if you get short on paper currency. The parking garage is right across the street so there aren't parking issues.
