The staff is incredibly friendly and always quick to answer any questions or concerns, which we truly appreciate. My daughter has been swimming here for over a year, and her progress has been amazing. She has gained so much confidence and skill in the water. The instructors are supportive and encouraging--especially Julia, who has been wonderful with my daughter. They also have a fair makeup policy, which makes scheduling much easier for busy families. We're very happy with our experience and highly recommend American Swim Academy.

This review is about the manager and how she doesn't understand client needs when it comes to using their services. It shows this establishment is a very cookie cutter academy and best suitable for only kids less than 10 years old ( lanes were Very narrow aka cramped, my kid scraped his back and was bleeding) I called the ASA specifically to inquire if they are a good fit for my child's swimming lesson needs. I have explained in detail what level my child is at which he knows most of the strokes and has been playing waterpolo competitively. He now wants to join a competitive swim team which he wasn't able to bc he didn't know how to do flip turns and he is not very good at back stroke. We want to improve these areas specifically and we want to know if 1, they have a specific class that will fit this need, 2, he is a teenager so we need to know if he personally thinks the class will work for him. The girl offered a trial class and we showed up. She told me over the phone that this class will help with what he needs but ofc when we attended it was a class based on age and not skills. Clearly was not what we were looking for but as I was sitting there, a lady came by asked me what I was looking for bc she can see he was not a little kid and he can almost qualify to be an instructor based on how well he swam. After I explained our situation again which I didn't mind, she said they have a stroke specific class which will make more sense for him. I asked if we can do a trial class she said yes. And, again that's not the case bc when the front desk staffs tried to book one they needed a manager's approval. The manager refused and asked us to pay bc they only offer 1 trial class. I explained the situation being we attended an incorrect class etc then she insisted it doesn't matter bc trial class is to access what level he is at so one class will suffice.... THIS IS THE PART why I wrote this review. As a paying client who has to commit to at least three months of swimming lessons at $52/class, I should have the say so if the class, the instructor, the lessons are going to work for us. We also get to evaluate the school. But from the manager, it's a one way street even though the whole point of a trial class for us was to see if my child will get the training he needs. Not to mention we wasted our time driving to this class on a school day to which it doesn't work for us at all. Like she made it seem like I wanted to get another free class smh. I was even considering private lessons if the instructor was very good at helping my child! It's this type of poor management makes you lose business.

My 6yr old daughter, after 3 lessons with Dan, was able to swim and understood water safety. Isn't that what we all want? These swim instructors at swim schools just hold onto our children and play with them in the water. It's nonsense and such a waste of time. The only way to teach a child to swim is to let go and make them aware of where the side of the pool is for safety. Dan is no fluff, not there to play. He is there to teach your kid how to get from the middle of the pool to the side of the pool by themselves without needing help. This is a water safety course. Your kid will know what to do if they ever fall into the water and need to find the edge of the pool within 15 seconds. That's the life saving course he is teaching them and it works. It's not easy for the kids for the first 4 days and it's not easy for the parents to watch. There is a lot of crying but after day 4 or 5, the crying stops and they learn that if they cry while trying to swim, they will choke on the water so they should probably stop. I highly recommend every parent to put their child in this water safety course asap. I kept hearing about Dan for years from other friends that had their kids complete his course but I was too scared to do it. And then every summer would go by and my kid still couldn't swim. I finally got so sick of the swim Schools that I booked Dan's 10 day course and it was the best decision. Do not hesitate to do this and know that it's not a pleasant situation. But you know what is? Knowing my kid can get to the side of the pool in one breath if she is ever in a situation where this is needed. I remember hearing this stat while at Dan's lessons last year and it has stuck with me and I hope this resonates with whoever is reading this: it takes 20 seconds for a kid to drown. When a kid is drowning and doesn't know water safety, the first 15 seconds they spend splashing around looking for their parents to come help them or someone to hold onto. That's 15 seconds of wasted breath and time to get to the side of the pool safely. Dan teaches kids to know their surroundings, put your head in the water and find the nearest edge.

The classes are not for the faint of heart. These are accelerated no nonsense classes and the intent is to teach them to survive. For the first few days, expect a lot of tears and emotions from the kiddos. The last few days, they will be proud of their accomplishment and enjoy being in the water. I was lucky and our kiddo did not cry one day. She loved it so much, she still asks to go back. I am beyond impressed and have a sense of relief knowing she can swim with safety. Thank you so much, Dan!

Best for kids 18 months to 12 years because while the slides are fun, it's more family-friendly and less amusement-parkish than Hurricane Harbor in Concord or Calibunga/Raging Waters in San Jose. If you're ready to move your toddlers up from tot time at the San Ramon Aquatic Center, as I was, this is one step up from that. The staff member who was overseeing slides was really helpful when I told her that it was Jenbert Jr 1's first time going down a water slide ever. She told the others in line to wait for her while she gave JJ1 a little extra attention and how-to, which I appreciated. Pros: * Clean facilities * Free parking * Slide line wait times were less than 5 minutes when we went on Labor Day weekend around noon * Variety of activities from splash pad to slides to indoor or outdoor recreational swimming pool. We went to all three activities and enjoyed each. They didn't want to get out of the recreational pool when it was time to go, and it was less crowded. * More affordable than water amusement parks such as Calibunga and Hurricane Harbor, but to be fair, there isn't as much to do here. However, the focus at The Wave seems to be on quality, not quantity. Cons: * Pricing is for above and below 40". However, the slides have both a height (40") and weight (45 lb) requirement, and both must be met. Luckily, management will refund you if your child is over 40" but less than 45 lbs and cannot go on the slides. * Much like any other amusement park: cabanas/rented tables fill up quickly, can't bring in your own food.
