Recently dined in and tried the the Doner Basket (with beef & lamb), Ooner Salad (with chicken), a regular order of the street cart fries, a strawberry margarita (non-alcohol) and one order of the blakava roll. The blakava was too soft and felt wet for our liking. We were hoping for the crispy, flaky pastry that we treat ourselves too, but these were a miss. Indoor and patio seating was available outdoors which we took the opportunity to sit outdoors. However, the flies were a bit much to really enjoy our meal. Overall we enjoyed our bowls. The blakava wasn't great and the fries in the street cart order would've been better if freshly cooked. The price tag felt a bit on the pricey side totaling $69. read more

Great Spot! This is a cute spot at the end of the Food City shopping center. Laid back, fun atmosphere with a bit of a hippy vibe. Friendly people who took care of us well for a counter service place. I had the Spitz Gyro with chicken. It was tasty with fresh ingredients and good pita bread. The star of my meal were the sweet potato fries. I don't know what was in them but they were sooooooo good! My bride had the quinoa salad and loved it! I realize this is a chain but it's locally owned and the food is absolutely AMAZING!! The portions are huge and they have a nice selection of craft brews. Inside and outside seating to enjoy and the staff are very friendly with that southern hospitality. We all had wraps but only ate half and took the other half home. We also enjoyed the fried pita strips and hummus which are highly recommended! This is the first Spitz in Alabama and will be a go to the next time we're in town. We tried this place on a whim. My husband got one of the wraps with all three meats (lamb, beef, and chicken). He added banana peppers and a spicy sauce to it for an up-charge. It was very flavorful. I requested their small side Greek salad since I wasn't too hungry, and they said they now only offer the large version. It was roughly $7. The size that was served didn't appear to be large...and it was lacking for the cost that it was. Seemed like a rip off. I wouldn't order this again. The restaurant was very clean, inside and out. Service was fine. It took a while to get the food, but this is a good sign that it's made fresh. We won't come out of our way for it, but we'd return if in the area! read more

Quick service, yummy food and clean but small interior. I wish there were more room between the ordering counter and how the line wraps by the door and dining tables. The space is a little tight so grabbing your to-go items from the bar can be a squeeze if they're busy. Everyone is friendly. We've eaten in once and primarily do to go since they're close to the house. The fried wings are yummy and when they don't overcook the pita strips, they're divine! We love the OG Gyro and the Wraps. They aren't the cheapest but there is a reasonable amount of food with the wraps so you end up with leftovers. read more

We finally made it here last week. I'm so happy to have this restaurant in this area. We needed more actual restaurants and not fast food. It is an order and then sit restaurant, which is fine. They give you very large servings. I tried street cart wrap, and it was fantastic. Get the green cilantro sauce! It's the perfect amount of spicy. The plates were a little small. I got the side salad and the salad was falling over the sides. The decor is really neat. Lots to look at and very funky. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Spitz. I will say location is a bit far for me, however I went with a few coworkers for a lunch. I got the Berliner bowl as well as ordered the wings and fries since I had a BOGO deal. All were flavored so well and hot. The service was great, everyone was friendly and helpful. They checked on us multiple times and made sure we kept our drinks full. The bowl was BIG and everything was so fresh. I usually don't do pickled onions and carrots but they were chefs kiss. The wings and fries were delicious! Every single sauce (minus the Taziki ranch) were suuuper good. Ranch was just a little simple for me. Yummo!! This place is absolutely delicious!! Like some of the best ive had a in long time.. fried crunchy garbanzo beans? Um hello, those are delicious and have such a great texture in a wrap. The quinoa salad tho- that is a meal itself. Dont miss out on the quinoa salad. I got the Medi Wrap with all the meats and the quinoa salad. The sauces they have on the side by the register are a must to try out. So flavorful and delicious. The gyro had a great taste and texture. The falafels with hummus were fresh and crunchy with such a great flavor. I really enjoyed this meal, like i cant wait to go back. When you arrive you order at the front then take a number to a table and they bring it to you and will bring you any extra sauces to try out. A new restaurant in the Cove area is located in the same brick building the new Food City is housed. We stopped by to check out their version of Mediterranean foods. Their menu says they serve halal certified meats. This is helpful for the Muslim community. Our order was to go. It was after 2 and the restaurant was empty. I ordered the large hummus with pita strips, a O. G. Gyro, a beef and lamb gyro, Waffle Cut Sweet Potato Fries, Doner Salad with chicken, and a Mediterranean Doner Wrap with chicken. My order was to go. The large order of hummus and pita strips was ok. The hummus wasn't anything special to me. Truthfully there are plenty of pita strips and very little hummus. The ratio of hummus to pita strips was way off. I received 3 small containers that were not full and might have been 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup. I had several pita strips left after eating the hummus. I do not recommend ordering this if you love hummus because you get just enough to make you mad. Looking at the leftover pita strips made me shake my head at this appetizer. What was wrong? I needed way more hummus to eat with the large number of pita strips I had leftover from this large order. When Dave picked large, he was thinking about lots of hummus and that just wasn't the case. 3/5 The O. G. Gyro was ok. Having had authentic gyros in the past, I believe I expect too much when ordering a gyro these days. I have to put the gyro in perspective and base it on what's available locally for comparison. I couldn't taste the gyro meat. The texture of the pita was different and each bite I wondered where the pita was purchased from. It didn't taste bad. It was the texture that threw me off. I would like more taziki in my gyro along with more meat. 3/5 The Waffle Cut Sweet Potato Fries were good. I didn't care for the garlic solo that accompanied the fries. They are on the thin side and paired with the pungent garlic taste, all I could taste was garlic versus sweet potato. My preference would be ranch dip or eat them plain. 4/5 The Mediterranean salad with chicken was very good. I liked the lemon tahini dressing that was provided. The greens were very fresh and the combination of vegetables, fried chick peas, and chicken was delicious. 5/5 The Donor Wrap was very good. My protein was chicken. I wish the store didn't cut the chicken up in such small pieces. The taste and flavor of the chicken is lost in the wrap with all the other ingredients. I like to taste chicken if chicken is in my wrap. 4/5 I will come back to try different items on the menu. This is a nice clean restaurant and they have several foods to try. read more

Very glad to have another dining option in the Cove, especially one that's solid like Spitz! We came by over the weekend to grab a meal for carryout. They have online ordering but it was disabled because of the volume of orders, which makes sense as anything new in the greater Huntsville area is always mobbed for like a month. It actually wasn't that busy when we arrived, but it was absolutely freezing outside and getting a little late for dinner. The restaurant is a little small but has plenty of seating, to include a nice patio. The decor is loud and bright but I liked the vibe; it felt upbeat and friendly. They have a nice bar for seating too. It's order at the counter. A menu on the wall or something would be a nice addition rather than having paper menus at the register or having to read the menu on your phone, but fortunately we came prepared knowing what we wanted to order. Service was friendly and thorough. She repeated our order to us and got us enrolled in their loyalty program. Our food came out in a timely manner and was clearly made fresh. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we'd know exactly what to narrow our order down to on our next visit, so we got two wraps (one Berliner and one Street cart), an order of mixed fries, and an order of hummus and pita strips. I will agree with other reviewers that the pricing is a little steep, but the portion sizes are more than generous and the product is high quality. Personally, I think it's ultimately worth the trade off. Our carryout was packed nicely; they even thought to place the fries on top, which I vented on the drive back to our house so they wouldn't get soggy. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The wraps were hefty and full of fresh veggies and ample meat. The Street Cart had a little bit too much sauce and got a little wet/sloppy by the time I was about halfway through, but I enjoyed it. We both wound up preferring the Berliner, though; the corn and veggies made an amazing sweet and crispy combination, and the beef and lamb was tender and savory. The fries were excellent, too. We had a slight preference for the regular potato fries, especially with the garlicky dipping sauce, but the sweet potato waffle fries were yummy too. The pita strips were a cross between bread and chips; they were soft and hot and freshly fried, but as they cooled they got a little crunchy. Definitely will eat them quickly next time. I do wish the hummus cup had been a little larger; we ran out of hummus and had several pita strips left. Overall, very happy to have Spitz as an option in this area. We will return! read more

We ordered 2 Gyros and the sandwiches seems like they had been under a heat lamp for some time. the gyro meat was dry and both wraps were dry and chunchy- not soft and pillowy. the taziki was watery and lacked flavor. I did order a 1/2 order of wings which were good. Probably give them one more try before they go to the "not worth it" list read more

I was in the area and heard this place was good, so figured why not try it? I am not a fan of the location being such a bare shopping plaza, but that's all too common around here. Still, they did a fantastic job with the space! They have a very nice patio with lights and picnic tables, and the inside is incredibly kitschy, with lots of space artwork and decor. I had the berliner wrap to go, and even having to drive it almost half hour home, it was delicious and remained in one piece as you would expect. The prices are fair for the quality, so expect to spend at least $20 to get a big portion full of fresh ingredients and cover tax and tip. Pretty typical of the trend in Huntsville, it's basically a fast food restaurant in which you will spend $20 a person at. For that reason that's why it gets the two star review. You walk in you order at the counter and you wait for your food like a normal fast food restaurant Yet the meal deals are well over $20 per person and you don't get service for that. This will probably be one of many places that open in the cove that don't last very long because it's just not a sustainable market of people that can afford that kind of cost on a regular basis The food itself is pretty good. I had the Gyro and my kid had one of the wraps and we got the hummus appetizer. Of the three I would say the hummus appetizer was worth the money. The food was good. The fries are good and the amount of meat in the sandwiches is also acceptable. I just think if they could pinpoint the cost to around $13-$15 per person for a meal kind of like big papa gyros it would work much better. read more

My husband and I tried Spitz for the first time yesterday and it was so good we came right back today. This restaurant literally made me a liar, but in the best way. I've never been a fan of gyros or sweet potato fries, yet BOTH were absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the OG Gyro with sweet potato fries and my husband got the Street Cart Wrap with fries. Everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly clean-tasting without losing any of the richness. And listen... do yourself a favor and get the garlic aioli for your fries. You can thank me later. The portions are generous for the price, the food is fulfilling, and it feels amazing to eat something delicious that doesn't feel heavy or greasy. This is truly quality food. New place next to the FoodCity in Owens Cross Roads. The vibe is the same as all of the other quick service places but the food is somewhat better. Mix and match in a bowl or in a flatbread with quinoa, industrial hummus, generic "middle eastern". Great service from a nice woman we assumed was either an owner or a manager, she was neither but a FANTASTIC employee! I really wish we could get a nice sit down full service restaurant that isn't mexican in OXR but that being said this was pretty good for what it was. read more
