First and foremost, the food was excellent. It came out piping hot and was very tasty. I would have given them 5 stars but the service was lacking. We arrived around 3:30 so in between normal rush hours. We were not greeted when we walked in and we were seated without being spoken to. During our meal we enjoyed sampling the very spicy hot sauces on the table but we had to flag down our server to get drink refills. I love the look of the restaurant. From the beautiful plants at the front to the ornate furnishings inside, it is all beautiful! I would definitely come here again when we travel through the area. read more

Service was timely and courteous. All of the food tasted great! I was not thrilled with my top shelf Margarita; there was too much orange liqueur in it. read more

This place is really really good. We came here since it's close to us and we hadn't been there. The place was packed and it was a Tuesday. Good sign. The interior was very cute. We were quickly seated. I ordered the San Diego burrito, queso appetizer and the margarita flight. Be warned, they are 4 full sized margaritas. Make sure you have a driver! My husband got the quesadilla and liked it a lot. They give you salsa and beans with your chips, which was a different touch. We will be back. read more

Good food and good service. Chips are always hot and salsa is delicious. I prefer the regular margaritas over the top shelf.

Always good food and good service! Great place to meet friends and family. Clean environment too. read more

El Olmeca - Pastore tacos! My favorite! - Mexican Near Me - Owens Cross Roads, Alabama

Praise be! After our usual spot, Casa Blanca, spiraled out of control with prices we were looking for a new spot. Note: I got delivery, so I can't comment on service or atmosphere. Food was exceptional--my shrimp was well cooked, the guac exceptionally fresh, salsa tasty, chips crisp, even my tortillas were still warm. Bean dip was also amazing. Prices were a steal, and I'd not hesitate to go back. read more

Always good food, great service! Try the wings, AMAZING! The only complaint...margaritas are great but too expensive!

Disappointed - Not the Authentic Skirt Steak as Advertised First time here, and I was excited to try the skirt steak listed on the menu -- the classic and authentic cut traditionally used for great fajitas. Unfortunately, what was served was clearly thin-sliced top round, a much cheaper cut that's about a third of the cost of real skirt steak. It was dry, chewy, and simply not what was advertised. I politely let them know, didn't eat the meat, and they never offered to replace it or make it right. I still paid the full price and even tipped the waitress -- not her fault -- but I won't be coming back. If you're going to charge for quality cuts, you need to serve them. read more

Pretty good food and service. Hampton Cove doesn't really have a lot to offer in terms of dining options but this little out of the way restaurant is WAY better than the other one that's on the main drag of HC. Chips, salsa, guacamole and cheese dips are all very good but I'd love it if they would leave some HOT sauce bottles on the table. Still and all quite good! read more

We tried El Olmeca for lunch and arrived about 12:30. The restaurant was busy with a lunch crowd but we were seated quickly. The chips and salsa came as we spent time reviewing our lunch options. We ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras. We were served pretty quickly and our orders were freshly made, served nice and hot and looked appetizing. The enchiladas tasted great and the fresh lettuce, tomato and guacamole were the perfect accompaniment for this meal. I highly recommend El Olmeca and will be back to try more items from their menu. read more

Beware what you order at this place, the menu is not what it seems. What they claim is skirt steak on the menu is actually top round - tough, gray, rubbery, flavorless top round. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he shrugged and said the manager is at the cash register. When I paid my bill and mentioned it to the woman at the cash register, she said nothing. From now on I'll stick with El Coyote and Buenavista down the road. read more

The food was great and generously portioned. My grandson asks to go there just for their burgers. My youngest grandson always get a cheese quesadilla from the children's menu. It's nice and cheesy. Some places serve a tortilla with some cheese. This one is cheese that happens to be in a tortilla. I've had a couple of their chicken meals and they were great. Their beans are served whole and cooked with bacon and onions. They are so tasty. This is our new "go to" place when we come to see the grandsons. read more

Good food at good prices and a very friendly staff within a relaxed atmosphere. It's our go-to Mexican choice in the Hampton Cove area.

This is the WORSE Mexican food I have EVER had! When I asked my server for tortilla soup or black beans, I should have left when he said they did not have those items! The plate was hotter than the food! We had a cold beer & the beer was warmer than our food! My enchilada's & Tamala's taste like paper I've never had to wait for my favorite cuisine! it took forever to get our food! I will NEVER EVER return to this restaurant! The ambiance and bright lights guided us there! The food & service determined for me never to return! read more

The Salmon Mexicano is not bad! The Margaritas comes in a very large margarita glass.

the chicken and rice is bomb. by far my favorite things on the menu. staff is very nice and you usually don't wait too long at all. very cozy on the inside, lots of colors and things to look at. been going here for years, 10/10 almost every time. read more

Superb quality Mexican food. We have enjoyed all the entrees we have tried in our multiple visits since moving to the area only about 3 months ago. Quantity is typically more than we can eat. Side dishes compliment the entrees very well and are also very tasty. Service was excellent and tended to our needs quite well. They had plenty of staff to serve a very busy restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant, bordering on festive. We felt like we were experiencing a bit of old Mexico in this place. It is our "go to" Mexican restaurant in our area (and there are many to choose from). read more

Great food. Ask for Carlos. All the other servers are great also. Happy hour has great priced drinks.

This place is a great find! Our food was delicious and our server, Pepe, was the sweetest & very attentive. The queso dip was perfection.

From the moment we walked in we knew it was going to be a great experience! The restaurant was clean, the servers greeted us with a smile, even let us pick our own seats!! My daughter enjoyed the Spanish rice, my son enjoyed a burrito and I had the Chilla Quiles. Wow! This is the best Mexican food we've had since we've been to Alabama! My son and I enjoyed the margaritas and they were perfect! We will definitely be back again! The salsa was fine, but I'm used to California style where they roast the tomatoes and make it homemade. No complaints, just a different style. Either way we enjoyed all of it . read more

It's no secret why this place is the best place to eat in Hampton Cove. Their food is delicious but their work ethic and also how they treat their customers are what really stands out. I've had the worst day and clicked the wrong chimichanga on my online order and they replaced it for free. I wish I'd had cash on me to increase their tip but I will remember that next time i eat there. Thank you, thank you! read more

This was my first time coming to Huntsville Alabama, and I was just looking for a nearby restaurant where I could enjoy a nice, relaxing dinner. Boy, I'm so glad I found this one. Amazing service. Quiet, comfortable atmosphere. The decor is very unique and fun. But the food stole the show. I got the Piña el Olemeca. Which was a pineapple sliced in half and then hollowed out. Then they fill it with shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, onions, pineapple chunks, and smother it in cheese. It also came with 3 tortillas and fixings. Holy cow. A lot of food for the money. If I come back to Huntsville, I'll definitely eat here again. read more

Their food is consistently good. Not as good as Buenavista, but still better than most.

LOVE THIS PLACE! We stopped here after hiking Green Mountain. This is our first time here, but it won't be our last. Very nice service, delicious food (yummy grilled salmon), very clean restrooms, could not ask for more. Thank you for a perfect lunch! read more

Our "go to" Mexican Restaurant. Treated like family. Food is always great. Been eating here for years!

Had lunch there yesterday. They had super fantastic service. The atmosphere was perfect for a Mexican restaurant. Truthfully, I didn't find anything to lead me to rate this restaurant as outstanding other than the service. To me it was average Mexican. I wondered if my Chile relleno had been previously frozen and reheated as it was "watery." Beans and rice were beans and rice (if you know what I mean). The service gets the two stars. read more

What can I say about El Olmeca?! This restaurant is my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant in Huntsville--hands down! It is authentic and delicious. You always get what you pay for here as the meals come in very good portions. I always order shredded chicken nachos with a side of Mexican rice--oh my goodness, it is DELICIOUS! Because of El Olmeca, I conquered my fear of eating avocados and guacamole! Their guacamole is very delicious and bursting with flavor! Their margaritas are amazing, too! Again, you get exactly what you pay for with size and if you get the $9.99 margarita...please give someone your keys for the night. Lol. It is a wonderful size of wonderfulness! Clean, kid-friendly, pretty much all events and celebrations friendly! Service is great and the owners are wonderful and so kind. They make sure their customers leave full and satisfied. I highly recommend going to El Olmeca in Owens Crossroads...you will not be disappointed!! read more

Due to COVID I have only ordered takeout but the food is delicious and portions are generous.

FANTASTIC!! Is the only way to describe our dinner experience. First time there. We've wanted to try the restaurant and finally did. Drinks were excellent and food was amazing. Excellent value for our money. Salsa and chips were great. Dinner portions large enough for a second meal. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly. This is our new GO-TO Mexican restaurant. Love it. See you again real soon. read more

We were instantly greeted with a dirty look from the host , they got most of our orders wrong . The shrimp in my chimichanga didn't taste fresh at all . My grandmas taco salad looked like cafeteria food . Our sever was nice but I definitely wouldn't recommend this place . read more

First visit, did curbside pickup. Enchiladas were delicious as were the nachos. Even after being in the to-go containers, the food tasted good at home. The chicken was cooked well - not overdone, same with the steak in the nachos. Portion sizes were generous and eating here did not break the bank either. Will definitely go back here again. read more

Used to be wonderful, but recently changed queso, chips, and margaritas the last time I went. All were not nearly as good.

I am a transplant from Texas and have been on the search for some good 'ol Mexican food. There are some very well know restaurants that people have recommended but, I wasn't impressed. I have even tried some smaller "hole in the wall" places to no avail. Finally, after moving to OCR and not wanting to go in to town for dinner I tried El Olmeca. Not only is it super cute, the food hit the spot! They have a great selection of dishes that I grew up loving. The flavors are as authentic as you can get this far from the border. I had the Fajitas Limon. They were FANTASTIC! The service was awesome. I never had an empty drink and the salsa is better than my grandma makes. They also have a great Happy Hour and a bar with live music in back. I love this place, it is fast becoming my new "home away from home. Try it!! read more
