This tailor store opened Spring 1977. The original owner is still running the store! He seems to be a courteous person. In the front 30% of the store, you can browse through lots of material. In the back 70% of the store, all the tailoring is done there. Of course everything is done to measure. Prices are reasonable. There is no free WiFi. The store is wheelchair accessible but there is no door-open button and there is a sharp 90-degree turn at the entrance. There are no customer washrooms. Very disappointed to the service I have received for my Tuxedo alteration! This is the second time I tried their service and both times I was unsatisfied and mad with the attitude they have. I know about fitting and all things about suits as well, I have lots of suits in my collections. I kept telling them it wasn't done right but they refused to even bother to fix it for a second time! All other places I have been to will do minor adjustments at least once or twice, cause we are dealing with fine adjustment here. I will have to take it to a different place to redo it again, what a waste of time and money, I will never ever go back to them again even if it is free! No wonder there were some bad reviews previously, I have learned my lesson the hard way, you have been warned. read more

I went to Spiros for my first bespoke suit. Unfortunately I can't say I was thrilled with the results. If I weren't such a particular person when it came to my suits then I might have been fine with what I received, but people who aren't particular about their suits don't get them custom made, so I think my critique is fair game. When I went for my first and subsequent fittings everything felt very rushed. I thought the experience would be more fulsome. I had this idea of my head of how a bespoke measuring session would go and it was nothing like it. Spiros told me he could copy a jacket I already had if I liked the fit so I brought him a garment and asked him to copy it exactly. He took some of my measurements and from my jacket for 15 minutes and it was all done. He told me to return in a few weeks for the try on. When I came back for the second fitting everything was wrong. I don't know why I bothered to bring in the jacket for him to copy because he obviously didn't do anything with the measurements he took from it. The sleeves were too long, the shoulders were too big, the jacket was too long and the fit was poor. I told him what I wanted fixed but I could feel his trepidation; he obviously isn't into anything that's fashion-forward so he was reluctant to to follow my instructions. The final product was much better but still not what I wanted and certainly not what I brought into him to copy. The sleeves were still too long and since the surgeon's cuffs (working button holes) had already been cut in the sleeves it would look funny to shorten them to where I wanted them. The arm holes were much too low and the jacket had more of a draped fit than a tailored fit. I wanted a well-fitted suit in the style of what I had brought in for him to copy from. One saving grace was the pants, they were perfect and exactly what I asked for. All in all, if you are looking for very basic entry-level bespoke suiting in a conservative fit then this is an excellent place. The price was good and there was a great selection of fabrics. However, if you are looking for a more fashion-foward bespoke suit then this is not the place to go. Spiros is a good tailor but he doesn't take instructions as well as he should and if he wants to get business from new and younger clients then he should be a little more receptive to a fashion-forward ideas. read more

I met my wife in Toronto and discovered Spiros Custom Tailors while we were on a date on the Danforth and I was in law school. Fast forward 20 years and I am still married to my Canadian wife (now transplanted to NY) and Spiros still makes my suits! Currently, I have well over twenty five suits made by him. I have always found him and his wife, Charoula to be charming people who are a pleasure to deal with. By way of style, Spiros is a gentleman's tailor of the old school. His clothing is made by hand and the concept of fusing is a dirty word to him. I have suits from my early days with him that still look great and have held up very well. The fact that he is a gentleman's tailor means that he specializes in a classic silhouette and cut. In my case, I prefer a modified English cut. However, he does an Italian cut equally well. As a classical tailor, the style of his suits from 15 years ago look as elegant as those cut this year. Last year I asked him to replicate a Dege & Skinner turn back cuff on an overcoat that he made for me. The result was better than the original. Unfortunately of late in men's fashion the term "fashion forward" is thrown about recklessly and bereft of substance. It is merely a buzz word for the latest trend that has a short life span. For example, I recall that when three button suits were all the rage, Spiros and I chuckled that they would be in fashion for two years. His comment: " What are they going to do with the suits then?" Spiros will make whatever a customer wants, but tends to guide them toward the long haul because the classic never goes out of fashion while the trends always do. Based on the quality of his workmanship, his suits will outlast any trend and he knows it. Custom tailoring is for those interested in classical long term style and not in disposable designer tat that is discarded in a year or two after the Chinese tailoring collapses and the fusing puckers. If one is interested in obtaining a finely made suit that will last for a long time and be as stylish ten years from now as it is today, Spiros is the tailor to see. I have three suits by Spiros and they all fabulous and are, in my experience, of better quality than other tailors I've used in Toronto. Pricing is better too, which is less of a concern than quality of craftsmanship and fit, in my opinion. For those citing issues over direction in other reviews, I also found that he took direction well from both me and the designer, except for when I requested something that he said was not going to look flattering on my current physique. As a result of taking his advice, I no longer blow the crotches out on my suits. read more

I work in fashion, and I think tailoring and fit are the most important qualities when choosing a suit. My boyfriend is a lawyer and has a lot of sports jackets, and he was looking to have pants made in fabrics that would complement his existing wardrobe. He was pleasantly surprised by Spiros' prices, and decided to start with pairs of pants. The initial consult went very smoothly, Spiros' wife helped pick the fabrics and the fabrics were great quality. My boyfriend is young, and he explicitly stated that he wanted a youthful style, trim pant. After the first meeting, everything was downhill: 1. He went to pick up the pants at the specified time and date, only to find they were not ready and could not be found. 2. When he went back again, the fit was completely off. The crotch was too high, and the length was at least 2 inches too short. 3. Spiros and his wife were upset with OUR reaction. It seems that if you are not part of the Danforth community, or a celebrity, this couple will not give you the time of day. The customer service was awful. I needed to use the washroom, which was located in an unfinished basement, with no light. There is no air conditioning in the summer, so in addition to it being a sweat factory, the fabrics cannot breath either. This is not the place for fashion forward suits. read more

A friend of mine sent me to Spiros to have a suit made for my wedding, I asked Spiro to make me a 3 piece charcoal suit. Being quite tall and around 250 lbs i've never been completely happy with an off the rack suit despite spending some considerable money. After a few visits i went to try the finished product and I was thrilled I finally have a suit that I am excited to wear! I really cant see myself ever going anywhere else for another suit, the service, price and most importantly the suit were all top notch. read more

I tried to call this establishment to inquire about prices for pants hemming and sleeve shortening. The customer service was terrible, and the lady on the phone hung up on me when I was in the middle of my sentence. I went to Spiros for my first bespoke suit, for my sister's wedding, and I am going back a few months later for my second bespoke suit, for my wedding. He was recommended by my father, who has had several suits made by Spiros over the decades. Spiros is a fixture of the Danforth by now. The overall experience was excellent. Spiros is a man of few words and great concentration. He is not a salesman, his wife takes care of that. He is diligent but does not offer much of an opinion on what you "should" want in a suit unless pressed. He prefers the classic and conservative look, but will do a trendy cut that will look dated in a few years if asked. I loved the fabric that I chose - a three season medium gray Italian wool - and ended up going for an English double slit, no pleats, two buttons, with slightly skinnier lapels than is standard. On the first fitting, Spiros took all of my measurements, it took about 10 minutes. On the second fitting, he made sure the shell of the jacket was fitting properly on the shoulders, waist and that the sleeves were the proper length. This took no more than 5 minutes. Overall, the process took about three weeks. When I went to pick it up the sleeves were slightly too short. I asked him to lengthen them by around 1/4" and he had it done the next day. I am very happy with the end result. For approximately $1000 I got a superb fitting suit with a great quality fabric and very nice stitching. read more

Would recommend Spiros as one of the best deals in custom suits in North America. The only other competition would be Giovanni's in Montreal. For a completely in-house made suit in Canada, the price just cannot be beat. The work is all done under one roof and not contracted out or done piecemeal or overseas. Suits are made from the fabric you select and they have great ones by VBC, Dormeuil, Holland and Sherry, etc. Full canvas jacket with bemberg lining. Pick stitching and surgeons cuffs. One price and no extra charge. Only caveat is that Sprios tends to make suits towards the traditional side of things, but as I get softer in the midsection a highly suppressed waist is no longer the most appealing thing to me. That being said, he will do whatever you direct him to do, whether it be a super skinny 2" lapel, small 12" leg opening, or ultra-wide 4" peak lapel.
