In terms of what this store is trying to do clothing-wise, my hats go off to them. Organic, local, sustainable and sold in a way where all of the employees from the sales folks to the people making them are paid a reasonable salary. Building more business models out there that are designed to benifit all in a company verses just those at the top is something the world needs more of. Where they fell short for me is in an area where I am trying to make an impact on one of the economic disfunctions of business these days. I will say straight up that my gripe is 100% because I failed to read their return policy...you know the very small micro printed sign that if you a friendly/ outgoing guy like myself and are actually more focused on engauging the assoiciate you don't always think to look at. One of Spiritex policy's is to not issue cash refunds. One of the things I am trying to do these days is pay small small businesses /owners in cash. So many of us are used to reaching for the credit card every time we purchase something, not thinking about the fact that a percentage of that sell is then being taken out of the owners/business pocket and placed into "big bank"'s. When you think about the amount of money that is generated off of taking 3-4% off of every sale at every business in everyday that is a substaintial amount of money. This in addition to all of the money that is made off of the millions of customers out there that have put themselves in debit and are paying them interest. But I digress... Basically I had this same conversation with the sales associate as I was shopping and when it came time to purchase I could have totally used my credit card for the $120 purchase, but instead left the store...went out of my way to get cash and then came back and purchased the items without their policy of no cash refunds being pointed out to me. When I got home I realized that one of the shirts was 50% poloyester and 50% cotton. I had told the associate up front the reason I was there was because I was allergic to poloyester and she had pointed me to a selection of clothes that she indicated were 100% organic cotton. So less then 24 hours later there I am trying to get a refund for my purchase. They would not give me my cash back. Store credit was all they would offer me. So in review. If I would have used a credit card...I would have gotten all of my money back by way of them putting it back on my card, but by using cash the basically took my $120 and put it in their pocket ( store credit is not a refund...they still have your money and you then have zero freedom in where you want to invest/spend that money) even though I was doing something in the "spirit" of trying to help them out. I will say that after waiting 3 days and burning up a lot more energy with the manager I was finally offered that they could mail me a check, but I was just in Asheville for a short time and and didn't have a local bank or address where they could send it. Was going to be more hassel than it was worth. My two star rating is for: 1. Allowing me to purchase something I was allergic to and not offering me a no hassel return of my cash. 2. Not making sure the no cash refund policy was pointed out to me when I clearly was doing it to help their business out. If I would have been made aware of the policy I would not have used cash. It is sad this company rewards those who use forms of payment that cost them money and restricts the freedom of those who are trying to increase their bottom-line. read more

Will never go in this store again. Was in there with my mother and daughter and grandson. The only associate in the store Josh accused me of stealing a onesie. I did take a picture of one and put my phone back in my pocket did not touch one the whole time I was in there. He even called the police and I gave them the right to search everything I had but the police officer said he didn't have enough evidence to search or ask to search me. So opened my purse and tried to flip my pockets inside out the best I could and no apology from Josh. Will go up the chain of command. Josh needs to learn manners. read more

Just left this store with no intention of ever going back. While the clothes look fab on principal I won't give them my business or money. It is market day in Asheville so everyone is outside and kiosks and tables set for all stores. Everyone enjoying the day except the woman at the table for this store who clearly was not happy as she was having a heated phone conversation. Not interested in the least about the people at the table looking at the merchandise. Went to buy 2 for 10 tanks. Picked up white but intended for the pink. By the time we got to the counter to pay the table had been packed up. So when we asked if we could have the pink we were told no because the table has been packed up. And the man was externally rude as if we had a real nerve asking if we could have the color we wanted. I was putting together a cute birthday outfit for my niece's baby for her birthday, but put it all back because of the way we were treated. Won't go back. read more

I had a great experience with Spiritex. I ordered on line through Etsy then discovered they were right in Asheville so I contacted Marylou Sanders on Etsy conversations and asked her if I could pick up the t-shirt at the store downtown instead of paying for the mailing charge. She found a way to refund the mailing charge and I picked up the shirt from a very pleasant well-masked clerk. Everyone was extremely pleasant to deal with. I think they are great and I love my shirt. They get five stars from me and I highly recommend them. read more

I was drawn in by the cute onesies in the window. No, not my maternal clock... everyone else's. Friends' and families' babies are on the way, and I want to be prepared with cutesie clothes in miniature. Some of the items were Asheville-specific, others were witty -isms. On the raised floor, are ladies' clothes -- mostly lightweight tees, skirts, and scarves made of cotton. The best part about the store is that everything is handmade by Asheville (and nearby) designers. read more

What's not to love about a store where the clothes are beautifully stylish, designed and made locally and often are made out of organic cotton? I have purchased three skirts and a top here and enjoy the fit and flare of each. The last time I was there, an associate forgot that I was in the room, and he accidentally opened the door on me, but no worries. I had on cute underwear! These folks are great! The originators of the 100% organic shirt... that's pretty cool, and right here in downtown Asheville! They even make their own fabric - LOCALLY! I love the quality of the material, and the fit is perfect. I just got two shirts for great prices and they are my new favorite shirts. This is a great clothes shop. A little pricey but everything is made locally from local products. They have some gorgeous dresses and the cutest onesies. Now in Greenville, SC, right there on Main Street! Im too excited! I have been searching for a place that sells durable tees made in USA with no logo on for about a year now. Just purchased three tees, my day to day staple, and a denim colored autumn weight skirt. Im very pleased. Dont think Im grody or anything but Ive been wearing the skirt for two days straight - thats how comfy it is. If you usually buy your staples at Target like I used to, Stop! I really wanted to like this company! I had been dreaming of finding locally-made, sustainable clothing (the fact that they use organic fibers was icing on the cake!). The bottom line is the sewing quality I encountered was so poor. There were seams that were off, skirts that hung crooked and holes in items. Getting the issue resolved took WAY longer than it should have because of (albeit friendly) poor customer service. If the sewing quality goes way up and the customer service help is expedited then my score could go up! read more

This is an unusual clothing store with one-of-a-kind designs. I love the cool t-shirts, the fun kids clothes (butterfly dress anyone?) and the owners will regale you with tales of New York's downtown music scene in the 70's. Great place to purchase a T-Shirt and the staff very friendly and helpful!!! I was looking for a particular T-Shirt that had a music theme representing the up-and-coming music industry in Asheville for my husband. I am from NH and this was my first visit to Asheville. I went into several stores and they did not have what I was looking for. I then went into one of the Spiritex stores and they did not have what I was looking for. However, the fellow that worked there thought I could get exactly what I wanted at the other store. As it was within walking distance, we walked to the other store and he helped me pick out the design on the computer and custom made a "one of a kind" t-shirt of exactly what I wanted!! Customer service was above and beyond here!!! My husband was thrilled with the t-shirt and I'm so very thankful for all the help I was given to get exactly what I was looking for. It is perfect!!!!
