I had high hopes for this vegetarian restaurant, but in the end it turned out to be just ordinary. First of all, while the food is indeed vegetarian, it's not really very delicious. If anything, the restaurant does a good job of validating the notion that fake meat and vegetarian food is silly tasting.
The interior is huge. They seem to also have a table for catching up on news and getting some reading done for the morning crowd, I presume.
There is absolutely no table service, which means that you have two options - either get everything you want to eat in one go, or bus your own dirty places and trays to an unused neighboring table after every course. This also includes drinks as there is no service for that, either.
There is a buffet, but it's not one of those eat anything you want ones. You pay by the weight of your food, although interestingly things like breads, soups, and desserts aren't part of that pricing scheme. Factoring in your desire to try out a little of everything would still set you back by a good amount, so better be judicious about what you'd like to try from the buffet.
When we visited, I noticed that a lot of dishes were just sitting cold and a few weren't even replenished once the containers were empty.
The salads were mostly alright, nothing special. When asked I was told that the seitan loaf and the green curry were house favorites, but the curry was just a lot of green water and some partially boiled veggies. The vegan bitterballen were worth a mention, although, again, better served warm.
For dessert, I decided to go with the red velvet cake. They took the velvet quite literally as it did feel like I was chewing on sweetened velvet. There was just no cake-ness in the cake. Being vegan was no excuse; there are wonderful recipes for vegan cakes out there.
So yeah, would I go back? Probably not anytime soon. read more
