Cool space and decor. Was quoted 1.5 hours for a table which seemed excessive but we didn't have a reservation so whatever. We grabbed a seat at the bar and watched multiple tables lay vacant for 45 minutes to an hour. We checked in with the hosts and hostesses repeatedly pointing out the open tables who (rudely) told us that they were all "reserved." Waiting waiting waiting waiting. We ended up waiting 3 hours before giving up. So I guess don't think about trying SPIN without a reservation. Beers were pricey but comparable with other river north bars. read more

I was wicked excited that ping pong was finally getting some respect! My buddy and I walked in and the gent at the host stand was very friendly and polite - the whole staff was. Very well trained and managed. We went downstairs to where the majority of the action is. I'd say about 83% of it based on square footage (I really don't know the sq. ft.). We got downstairs and I immediately said to myself, "oh SHI*T" since only a Jersey Shore crowd was at the bar. I prayed that a cool place like this wouldn't not be invaded by such trash. My friend and I decided to stay for a drink and they are very good. The bartender could not have been more friendly or helpful. He is an alum of Celeste. He recommended this one amazing rum which was like whiskey. I don't like rum but I really liked his recommendation. The JS finally disappeared . We did play some ping pong. Nice Stiga tables and plenty of ball buckets in case you suck. The ping pong will set you back $40/hour which I think is overpriced - most of the tables were empty so I think if they lowered the price during slower periods, they'd get more business. read more

After having a mix up with the drinks we ordered we thought the server was being rude, but Stacey surprised us with the way she handled our complaint. Being a ping pong enthusiast, SPiN has been on my radar. After my boo and I both received complimentary 30 minutes of play from running the Shamrock Shuffle, we decided to come by around 6:30pm Friday. The host couldn't have been more delightful and was thrilled that we got to use our vouchers for an hour of free play. The tables downstairs were booked for a corporate event, so we had to wait a little for one of the few tables to open up upstairs. Luckily, it was only half an hour and the texting system made it easy. In the meantime, we grabbed a drink downstairs. I got the 'Salt Lick Susan' and this was good and had the perfect amount of smokiness. I got the text message that our table was ready right around 7pm and the same host escorted us to the table and clearly explained how it all works. We would be notified when 10 minutes were left. Most importantly, no need to pick up the balls! - I do think they could have picked them up a bit more frequently though...but really no big deal. We had a lot of fun during this time. We also had a wonderful server of whom we got more drinks from throughout. Drink prices are pretty standard for RN. While the downstairs seems to be more of where the party's at, I liked that our table was kinda in a more intimate area. Even though regular pricing $29/half hr and $39/hr during peak times may be much, it's not bad especially if you come with other people. I would definitely come back, especially as the space was super cool with very fun décor and paintings and service was awesome. There was also a big 'Connect Four' game near our table. They also host various fun events that definitely piqued my interest. Diverse and friendly crowd as well - thanks to the ladies who were cheering me on to defeat my boo! I was excited about the concept for this place, especially since I work 2 blocks away and they're open daily from 11am until late. As you can see from the pictures, the room is gorgeous, and it seems like a great place to go with a group of people for lunch or after work, maybe even for a private party. The key word in the previous sentence is "seems." I stopped by today for lunch, only to find the place completely deserted. Not only were there no customers, there were no employees. No bartender or servers in the bar area when you walk in. No host at the host stand. I looked around for about 10 minutes and did not encounter a single soul. After walking downstairs, I saw a small group of people in the far corner. No idea whether they were employees or customers, because nobody greeted me at any time. This is a very bad sign. Perhaps hardly anybody knows that this place exists yet. Perhaps they're off put at the notion of paying $30 to play for 30 mins. during a time when literally every single table is empty. Either way, it's time for them to do some promotion. The only promotional material at the host stand was an extremely vague card for booking events. No prices or options. Their website indicates that they have a discount after 10pm on Wednesdays, but that clearly falls short when the place is a complete ghost town during the day. Silver lining: If you bring your own paddles, you can play at the outside tables for as long as you want. It seems highly unlikely that anybody will notice and try to charge you. read more

First time, heard a lot about it from others. We came last minute with about 20 people on a Monday night and Dell (host) hooked us up with a patio table, sick. Honestly though, don't expect the typical alcohol options, they serve the up and coming brands plus the old school favorites. For the players, the tables are immaculate, I had to get used to stop chasing a stray ball, since all tables have a basket of unplayed balls ready to go. If you are inclined to the pong and a beverage, you can't lose. Edit: The tables are tournament quality, as are the paddles, don't squawk on the price too hard. About $40 an hour primetime and $25 an hour off. read more

Great place to meet up with friends for some ping pong and drinks! Tables cost $40 to rent for an hour. Great service and selection of drinks here. I highly recommend this place for pre drinks or an after pre drinks place. It's kind of pricey as the bill here cost more than the cost of our dinner later that evening. This place has more tables than Ace Bounce down the street and let the common folk in. I haven't had a ping pong paddle in my hand in fifty years, but as a part-time Marina City resident I was curious about our new neighbor. My first attempt, on a Friday evening, was a wash, as the entire club had been booked for some corporate event. Back on Monday afternoon, I was able to look over the facility and try their bar. My rating is based mostly on the latter; who am I to judge the pingery of pong? SPiN is beneath the State Street side of Hotel Chicago's building. The entry is a few steps below street level, with an elevator available from the street. Small semi-outdoor patio with two ping-pong tables beneath the overhang of the building. The interior is on two levels, subterranean and subterraneaner. There's a bar adjoining the tables on each level, but only the upper one was in use on a Monday mid-afternoon. The inside elevator connecting the two levels was out of order, potentially awkward for patrons with mobility issues, since all restrooms are on the lower level. Not at all busy at this off-hour. I was the only one at the bar, and the few ping-pong players I saw seemed to be mostly SPiN staffers, having an evident good time on company time. Full bar service; rather pricey, at $10 for my house gin and tonic, and going up from there. Small but decent beer list includes Lagunitas IPA; Revolution Anti-Hero; Bell's Oberon; Half Acre Daisy Cutter; Allagash White; Tocayo Belgian Wheat; and Krombacher Pils. I'll have to take another look at the place at an hour when it's in full pong mode. I imagine this would be a great deal of fun for folks who are into the game. read more

Came here for a birthday party and had a 5 star experience! The bartender (Tim?) made us his very own custom made awesome cocktails! Played pingpong with us and overall was a lot of fun! We played pingpong at a table outdoors for about 2 hours and it was a good time. Flat bread pizzas were great. Had the entire place to ourselves on a Saturday at noon. Extended our table an extra hour it was so much fun. Only downside is that I ping-ponged so hard I got a blister on my finger.. I still have it 2 weeks later, DA HELL!? My advice to you, is if you pong hard, then make sure you wrap your fingers. I'll need to come back here and enter in one of those tournies to show em how GG does it! GG OUT! read more

A great place to spend a few fun hours. I was there around 9pm on Fri attending from out of town. It was lightly attended. I asked to play with someone and Mike(manager) and Harold(staff) were available. They were great. Mike has played before. Around 10, they started some really fun pong games with 2 pros (Mimi and Kevin). You could win money, drinks, swag, etc. More people came in, met a few cool people and it was a happening place. A really fun time. Everyone had a great attitude and service was great. I will come back next time I am in town. read more

I ordered the fried egg sandwich but I kept dipping into what my boyfriend ordered which was The Two Potato Hash (Yukon gold sweet potato crispy pork belly charred scallions rosemary maple glaze). This is the worst bar I've ever been to. And that's all on account of one employee. The male bartender with pink highlights is the rudest person I've ever encountered at a bar. Yet alone bar staff. This man was condescending, rude and obnoxious. Every one of my friends that encountered him found him to be rude. If you come here, do yourself a favor avoid the bar tender with pink hair. He won't respect you or the money your willing to pay his establishment. I hope he owns the place, because he thinks he owns the place. First off, this man poured my friends and I four beers that were all poured to different levels, different heads, and none filled to the top. If you order two beers you don't expect to have your friend with an identical glass and the same beer have 1/4 not filled whilst you have 1/3 not filled. Just disgraceful, if you can't pour a beer don't be a bar tender. Secondly, when asked to pour anything other than a margarita, he would crack condescending comments. Nice atmosphere. Nice staff. Except one. If you find yourself here on a night when he's not working, congratulations, please enjoy yourself as this is a cool bar. If not, save your money and go somewhere else. I'd rather never play ping pong again than give that bartender a dollar. read more

Spin is great for both couples and groups, they have great service, the food and drinks are good, and the music/atmosphere is bumpin'. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is that it's pricey. It's extremely easy to reserve a ping pong table over the phone, even a few hours ahead on a weekend. They also take walk-ins, which were easy to come by on the weekend as well. You can book a table in 15 min intervals. Paddles and balls are included in the reservation, and there is table-side service, meaning that you don't have to interrupt a game to grab a beer or food. Their cocktail list looks amazing, and the Oreo dessert is awesome. The servers are very attentive, and the hosts are relaxed with reservations (even letting you play longer in some instances). The tables are in a basement area (except for a few on the first floor and outside), and there are bars on both the top and bottom levels. Crowd is in their 20s, relaxed, and there aren't super-bros that are all over River North. The music draws a lot from 90's-00's hip hop, which is great. Sometimes there are strobe lights, which is even better. It's roomy, but has couches and lounges to bring a more intimate vibe. If you're going with a group between 2-8 people, I'd recommend reserving only one ping pong table, as you can play doubles, or people can talk and relax while waiting for their turn to play. If you have 8 or more people, you're going to want 2 tables. 1 to 1.5 hours is more than enough time to play, and with 1 hr or less, you can go out to see other bars around the area. Prices: $39/hour/table on "peak" hours (like weekend evenings), $25/hour/table off "peak" hours. This is really the only thing that keeps me from coming back more - that, and the cocktails are River-North steep ($12-$13/drink). Spin is a uniquely fun way to spend an evening, as long as you have the $$ to spend. read more

Spin is a fancy ping pong lounge. I didn't know places like this existed, but it is pretty cool. Spin is like a bowling alley but replace the heavy balls and pins for light balls and paddles. I was attending with a party so I don't know how much this cost or what the availability is like. What I do know is that you cannot just play on any open table, at least we didn't try to. They have little reserved or closed signs for tables that are not in use. Spin is in what feels like a basement level with over a few dozen ping pong tables. Staff serve drinks and food. My favorite part were the people walking around and picking up all the loose balls with their little ping pong attracting nets. At each table they have two large bins of balls that you can pick and smash from. This means no breaks in games from running around and chasing bouncing balls or any worry from crushing one. Fun time. May be a little too cramped for a party of more than 8 or so. Other than that there is plenty of space to play and sit in some of the lounge areas. read more

We came here on Sunday nights round 5pm, we didn't have a reservation so when the host said there was 30 minutes wait for ping pong table, we were happy to head down to the bar and wait. Half of the place, ie about 7-8 tables were empty but we assumed they were reserved. AN HOUR AND 2 DRINKS LATER, we still didn't get a table. We went upstairs to check with the host and asked her what's going with those empty tables, she simply said they were occupied, guests must have stepped away (they do unlimited play for $8 on Sunday so doesn't matter when you leave). We asked how would she know if they already left, she said "I'm the only one up here so I can't really go down and check". She also couldn't tell us how much longer we need to wait, despite she said "30 minutes" an hour before that. At this point, we were done waiting so we went downstairs to close our tab at the bar. We bumped into the manager on our way out and expressed our frustration and how host handled situation, all the manager could tell us was the host knows what she was doing and all tables were reserved for parties (host never told us such thing) and we had to keep playing because others decided to play longer...so nothing they can do about it. Not even once she offers an apology, which is the core of hospitality establishment....so we left after spending $70 at a place that we should never step a foot in. Yet the only reason why we came is because AceBounce closed the day but we will sure never come back here ever even when all ping pong places are closed. Not recommended! read more

My boyfriend and I came here last night for a date night and we had an incredible time here. Walked in and saw a my past roommate Jason Cox and old co-worker Mambo, the service from floor staff was amazing as well. Love the industrial loft style building and decor along side with it. Will definitely be back for my birthday this month and recommend and will recommend this destination to anyone. Was here for a work party and loved it. The food was really good. They had guys walking around with some appetizers. Playing ping pong was lots of fun. I loved that they had buckets of ping pongs next to the tables so you don't have to go chasing one down. I thoroughly enjoyed the contraption they had to pick up all the ping pongs. The decor of the place was a lot of fun. I loved that they had artists paint on the tables and also in the bathroom stalls, all each painted differently. The DJ was really good played good music all night. The only thing was that since it is in the "basement" it was very humid in there and we were all sweating a ridiculous amount. I went here for the first time last week. The good is that they have a bunch of ping pong tables and a cool atmosphere. The bad is that the prices are astronomical for drinks. Go-See-Tim. Tim is one of the bartenders at the downstairs bar and happens to be really talented at making cocktails. Ask him to make his special Mezcal cocktail or the one with grapefruit and gin. The staff also seem very friendly. Spin is a multi-level ping pong lounge with plenty of room and space for all. It attracts a diverse crowd. Good music and the DJ spins at night. They have very cool artwork on the walls from mostly local artist. This is a great place for a date night, group, or singles. Love the airy feel of the place. The interior is unique and there are places to sit when you want a break from playing. You can reserve tables ahead of time to ensure a spot when you arrive so if you come as a walk-in there's a chance your time could be interrupted. I had fun at SPiN! I played ping pong for half an hour with some friends ($22 total), but it doesn't seem like they were super strict with the time. I liked that they had buckets of ping pong balls so you always had plenty of balls and you didn't have to pick up after them. I ordered the seasonal mule from the bar ($13). Taste was good but I wasn't given a straw to stir, and my first sip was all alcohol and my last all sugar. Definitely was not stirred/mixed at all. The price also seemed kind of steep given that you're already paying to play ping pong. They also have a table with giant jenga and a table with giant connect four. It seems like it'd be kinda pricy to stay here for long though given the price of ping pong and lack of other free activities. read more

I just walked upon this place recently and it's everything I've ever wanted. I have played ping pong my whole life growing up so I share the same passion as the others here, but they actually have some real good players. We had our company holiday party here last night for about 15 - 20 people. They were truly professional throughout every step of the booking and setup for the event. Our team is in the hospitality business, and we were all very impressed with the execution of the event. Not only was the place super cool and fun, the service and hospitality were exceptional from the greeting by the host when we were walking in, to our specific event host, Mike and our server, Kristen. Alex, working the bar, was also fantastic. They were always available, informative, friendly and generally made sure our rowdy group had a fantastic time. I think it's our best holiday party to date. We weren't aware we had to rent the ping pong tables so when we picked up the paddle, the staff came rushing over grabbing the paddles vs explaining to us first. Is the expectation to tip servers based on the cost of the rented ping pong table? If so, why and how does make sense? When renting a table for $40/hour, one should not have to feel pressured to give an additional tip when no food/beverage is ordered. Fix your system and stop putting customers in an awkward spot when the bill arrives! Also, when the place is empty stop being so strict on table time. Pretty sure you want people in the place buying drinks, no? Sundays the place is dead but you're trying to charge people for "peak" hours. Give me a break. SPiN is that new trendy ping pong bar that everyone has heard of... "isn't that place owned by a celebrity??" Yes, yes it is. I like this place a lot, but I don't think it's gotten the type of crowd it deserves. I've been here a few times for work events and it's a huge space. There are ping pong tables and a bar on the main level, and then huge separate party areas downstairs for large groups. Both times that I've been here it was kind of empty. I'm wondering why that is? Great location, fun spot, great service. I'm guessing that Acebounce is stealing their customers..? Either way, SPiN is a fun place with lots of space and a friendly staff.
