This place was stacked with more than I would have ever imagined for a small town grocery store. My only gripe was the lack of bakery that you come to expect from a chain grocery store. This is the closest and basically the only supermarket near us. Unfortunately, in the last six…read moremonths, their produce and meat departments have issues. For example, at this time of year, a new 4 lb. bag of Yukon Gold or yellow potatoes should look fresh, thinner-skinned and relatively clean (we bought one last week that was like this). Instead, the Price Chopper organization or store personnel are bagging or re-bagging older potatoes in with the new. In one four pound bag purchased yesterday, I found two older-looking potatoes with thick dark brown skins instead of the much paler, yellowy skin of new potatoes associated with this time of year. Other complaints include packing chicken in primarily larger packages instead of offering what used to be a wonderful selection of both small and large packages. Also, no sell by dates on containers of chicken livers (I called the store about this). The Price Chopper organization, in an effort to control prices lacks properly supervised and trained food department personnel. It is certainly displeasing long-time customers.

Was making a dish tonight, had my sauce all prepared, opened up the package of chicken and started to put the chicken thighs in when the most grotesque odor hit my nose that I nearly threw up. The chicken was absolutely beyond rotten. I check every date on anything I buy at that store because I've ended up with dozens and dozens of spoiled product. I didn't know you actually had to unwrap the chicken to smell it now too! Of course, all this resulted to me having to remake the sauce, which cost me more money and time, and had to go back to that miserable store and get the chicken replaced. Did they offer to cover the cost of the other ingredients I lost because of the spoiled chicken? Of course not they just hand me back my $8.52 from the spoiled package of chicken. I wish I could give this place negative stars and avoid it 100% but sadly they're the only grocery store within 20 miles and they print money because of the tourists so they have zero motivation to change or get better. They have bulk dry ingredients, one of them being organic barley which I cannot buy at the corporate grocery in my town. They do have an extensive supplement section. Healthier choices for snack foods, some toiletries, and an incredibly large section of chocolates at the register. The owners are super friendly and greet everybody as they enter. Since my first shopping experience, I've been back several times even though it is about a 30 minute drive for me one way. Here, everything looked like it was where it was supposed to be and the clothes section was very straight and proper. I came to pick up some furniture I ordered online and recall that the girl in the back pick-up area kept the space open past their regular hours just for me. The customer service was really great and I appreciated her helping me. There is always plenty of parking here as well though the pavement could use some smoothing out. There isn't much to do in a town like Norwich (as well as its surrounding towns) so this is definitely the place to hang-out at for most folks in the area. I know kids in Sherburne definitely frequent Walmart on a bored night out. I also came looking for mugs and was surprised that the selection wasn't bigger. I ended up buying a moscow mule mug that was pretty sturdy and large for a great price.

Service friendly, but usually only two registers are open and you have to wait in line. They have a seasonal section that is worth checking out every week. I got a name brand BELL bike helmet, bike lock, bike seat, bike computer, bike lights... for under $10. Wow. I'm still amazed by that deal. If you aren't familiar with ALDI, shopping carts require a quarter to use. When you return the cart, you get the quarter back. Overall, this is always my first choice for everything except produce. Trader Joe's (owned by ALDI) stocks more healthy foods and has a bigger selection of produce, legumes, grains, nuts, dried fruit, cheeses, meats, and vegetarian products. Prices are comparable. I've always heard they have some decent stuff and some prices at ALDI are lower than regular markets. They do have a good variety of stuff, from name brand items to some generic stuff that seems to be a lot cheaper than other places. They also have a decent selection of snacks, fruits and vegetables, and also all types of breads and meats. We were able to load up on groceries that will last a few days and the total price was not too bad. I'm not sure if the prices are just lower here in Oneonta, but I can't wait to go back to an ALDI in so cal and hopefully find the same great deals and values.
