I recently bought some new coil overs and had them installed here. First of all the girl, who helped me set up my appointment didn't even know what coilovers were. She quoted me a price and it seemed too cheap compared to other places including the quote I had gotten from here before so I reiterated and she still gave me the same quote. When I arrived for my appointment the gentleman helping me said your shocks will be ready at this time. I reiterated once more that I wasn't replacing the shocks but I was installing aftermarket coilovers. I told him that I told her three times to make sure because I didn't want to get quoted a price and then charged a different price. Needles to say he agreed to do them for the price quoted then later called saying they need an extra part for the installation that coincidentally costed the difference between the quoted price and the price I had gotten before. So no I didn't pay the agreed quoted price. Which I could live with because I knew it was too cheap but it was still unprofessional because I had gotten a better price elsewhere. I had gotten the installation of the coilovers and a four wheel alignment. The install was completed and I thought I'd get my car back riding smooth as ever but right away I noticed some issues. My car was not smooth at all and I could also hear loud clanging noises when I turned my wheel which never happened before. I had a buddy of mine balance my tires and fix the air pressure and the car felt nice and smooth again but I could still hear the loud clanging noises. I took the car back to this shop for a retorque and let the gentleman know about my concern about the loud clanging noises. Although I had an appointment that I made a week in advance and expected it to not take all day long He said he had a lot of cars ahead of mine and I had to leave the car all day. The part that made me furious was after leaving the car pretty much all day I didn't receive a call or a message explaining what caused the loud clanging noises or explaining what probably happened. I wasn't made aware of what the issue was or how it came about. I simply received a quote upwards of $1200. I asked for clarification on what the quote was for if I had brought the car in for a complimentary retorque and for them to check why the car suddenly started making those noises after they worked on it. The reply I got was what shocked me the most. Two messages. "Retorque is done." "Noise is tie rods.". I was pretty upset at this point due to the fact I didn't have my car all day despite having an appointment and then not even getting an explanation. I decline the work due to the fact I had just paid a pretty penny for the coilovers and installation and didn't want to spend double on another problem I didn't even understand. I show up to the shop hoping for an explanation and possibly to sort things out. The girl who I assume set up my appointment is at the front desk. She sees my invoice and looks puzzled at what she is seeing so she goes and asks the guy in the back about it then comes back to give my keys and invoice. I ask her a question about it and she has no clue how to answer so she runs back to the guy and instead of coming to talk to me the gentleman just sends her back with an answer that didn't even answer my question. The worst part is when I got my car back it was all shaky and a rough ride and not smooth how my buddy had left it before bringing it back in. At this point I decided to count my losses and will never be back to this shop.

I've had good experiences and even some where I wanted to leave a bad review, but I never felt strongly enough to actually write one. Until now. Our experience with Vilchez Auto Shop was so exceptional that simply saying "thank you" did not feel like enough. We were visiting Los Angeles from out of town when our vehicle suddenly stopped working. I called the shop in the evening, and Mario told us we could leave the vehicle there and that they would look at it first thing the next morning because they knew we were from out of town. From the beginning, everyone treated us with incredible professionalism, respect, and kindness. It was extremely hot, so they invited us inside where there was air conditioning, offered us water and coffee, and made sure we were comfortable. What really stood out was that their concern went far beyond repairing a vehicle. They explained what they believed the problem was and told us that if the part they suspected wasn't the issue, they would not charge us for that part. They even offered to let us use one of their vehicles while they continued diagnosing ours. Every time we mentioned a problem, Mario looked for a solution. When we were trying to figure out how we would get back home, he offered to help with transportation. When we mentioned that we might take a Greyhound bus, he told us to let him know what time it left and that they would pick us up wherever we were and take us to the station. We barely knew these people, yet they were willing to go that far out of their way to help us. At the time, we had no idea that our trip home would later become even more meaningful. Shortly after returning to San Francisco, we found out that my friend (who's birthday we went to celebrate) was pregnant. We had no idea while we were in Los Angeles. Looking back now, knowing that we were trying to get home safely while unknowingly carrying the beginning of a new life makes their concern for our safety mean even more to us. They didn't know. We didn't know. They were simply good people doing everything they could to make sure we got home safely. Their kindness continued long after the initial repair. Due to difficult circumstances in my family, there came a point when I wasn't financially ready to have my vehicle brought back to me. My vehicle had been at their shop for nearly a month. A business could have pressured me for payment or charged storage fees. Instead, Mario kept checking on me, asking how I was doing and asking about my family. When I explained what we were going through, he told me not to worry, to take care of my family first, and that whenever I was ready, we would figure everything out. There was never pressure. Never guilt. Never intimidation. I even offered to send half of the payment because that was what I could manage at the time. He still didn't pressure me and simply said that if doing that made things easier for me, then that was fine. Eventually, they went even further and brought my vehicle all the way from Los Angeles to San Francisco. They didn't require payment before I had my vehicle safely in my hands. Throughout the entire process, they kept me updated by text, answered my questions, and made sure I knew what was happening. Considering everything they did--the work, time, communication, transportation, patience, and genuine care--I felt the price was completely fair. At one point, I remember thinking, "I can't believe these people are doing all of this for us." We were already dealing with the stress of having our vehicle break down far from home, and somehow we encountered people who kept making things easier instead of harder. To me, it felt like a blessing from God. I believe sometimes God puts certain people in our path exactly when we need them. Mario and everyone at Vilchez Auto Shop were that kind of blessing for us. I even sent them food as a small thank-you, and they were incredibly appreciative. The young man who brought my vehicle to me personally thanked me for it, which meant a lot to me. They didn't just take care of my vehicle. They took care of us. I have never written a Yelp review before, but after this experience, I felt that simply saying "thank you" wasn't enough.
