I was surprised to randomly find out that there was an authentic Indian restaurant here in Abilene. I figured i would attempt to visit during their lunch hours. I tried the chicken tikah masala, chicken tandoori, & the garlic naan. The food was good. Not piping fresh but still good. I must of been the first customer for the day or something, because my food did take some time to be delivered to my table. After some other patrons arrived, their food seem to arrive sooner than mine did. (I am not saying that they got theirs first though.) Service was alright. I will have to come back again for another round. If you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine, I would totally recommend this place to try. I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan, and my boyfriend ordered the spicy chicken tikka masala with reg naan and both dishes came with white basmati rice! This was hands down the best curry I've ever had and I'm so happy this little gem is in Abilene. The inside was decorated authentically and homey. My butter chicken cream was so flavorful, and the naan was perfect to dip! The spicy chicken tikka masala was the perfect amount of spiciness and it wasn't overbearing. Abilene is pretty disappointing as far as culinary variety and quality, so my husband and I were thrilled to find this absolutely DELICIOUS Indian restaurant during our last trip there to visit my in-laws. A really late review.. I was here about 3 weeks ago. But this is one I really wanted to post ever since. FIRST, I got to dispel some basic Abilenean ( I think that's a word) rumors, but I found something out about this place LAST week, about why my visit was so empty. And it comes down to a few simple things.. 1. Small town mentality. 2. Well... one about sums it up. So, I hear that the reason this restaurant, who absolutely has THE best Indian food I have probably EVER had in my life, was empty on my visit, was because there was a murder in the parking lot, that was completely unrelated to this place, in any way, shape or form. On the day they opened. And was probably over a meth deal gone bad, by some local (not my perfect boy) ordeal, and nothing to do with the extremely friendly people who work and run this place. It angers me, that small minds, would be so afraid of the unknown, that it would literally hurt a local family owned business. I could go on about the fine folks of Abilene, but that should be it's own separate blog.. Now for my review. FOOD: Amazing, cooked to order, so always fresh. And the portions are huge, I literally stuffed myself to the point of almost being sick, just because I hadn't eaten food this good in months. STAFF: Really friendly,helpful and polite. I went in on a Friday night, alone as usual.. but I was expecting a crowded place for a Friday evening, it was not, just me and a family who I think were from the air force base. I started with an appetizer of Chili Paneers. Let me tell you, that was such a large plate I could have made a meal of just that, they tasted so amazing! The spice and flavor was just right, and just a plate of those would be worth going back for. For the main dish I had the Spicy India Goat curry, cause I was craving a curry and was my initial reason for going here. The curry was amazing, and the meat was extremely tender and easily fell off each bone. My server said the cook was from India, Sri Lanka if I remember right, wherever he was from, he, or she or they, are some damn good cooks. Well, for some reason my phone won't load photos right now, and that sucks cause I actually got some good food photos goso I will return later to add the pics I took. So, to end this.. I love me some Spicy India! Everything I've had there has been scrumptious, and the staff are super friendly and kind. I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to spicy foods, so if you're like me, I recommend these milder dishes: Mushroom Mutter Masala, Chicken Saag, Tikka Masala (paneer or chicken). I also enjoyed the Aloo Gobi and Goat Biryani, but both were a touch more spicy. The naan is wonderful (plain or garlic), and I like the Chapathi too. Also recommend the Chai Tea and Mango Lassi. With my moderate appetite, I can usually get two meals out of a single entree. Since moving to the new location (I-20 and West Lake), the service seems faster than at the old downtown location. Which makes Spicy India a good lunch option now. Pro tip: if approaching the restaurant from in town (like from Ambler and West Lake), turn left into the gas station and drive through the pumps/parking area over to Spicy India. What's the chance that there's a really good Indian restaurant in Abilene Texas? Zero? Is there a number smaller than zero? This place is great! Massive menu. Something for everybody. They serve a stunningly large array of very cool Indian themed cocktails (thank of a Mojito but made with curry leaves instead of mint etc.). I would return just for these. All the food we had was absolutely on point. However, there's one time I order a chicken vindaloo and there's only three pieces of chicken in it and I paid $11.90 for it. $11.90 for three pieces of chicken which I think it's way too expensive. The potion isn't that big too. So you if want to eat a lot , this place might not for you. Don't get me wrong, I love this place. But I think it's expensive. The most authentic Indian food you can get in Abilene, guaranteed. I'm a pretty picker eater and I have never had authentic Indian food until now. I hate to say it but I have definitely been missing out. Spicy India is located in downtown Abilene next to a really old hotel, I think they're connected. Walking into the restaurant, the aroma of spices really hit you and reminds you how authentic this place really is. There are a lot of items on the menu which can be overwhelming. I think they upped their price which any good business should do if the business is flowing. You can tell what their popular dishes are because they are slightly higher priced. I got the Tikka Masala. It comes with the actual soup itself and a bowl of rice. They don't charge extra for rice so if you finish, you can always ask for more. I split the samosas and naan bread with my friend. The samosas were filled with potatoes and peas and a whole bunch of spices. The appetizer came with two, I wish there were more considering how it was $2.99. The naan was homemade and I loved it. There are different seasoning which I'm sure is just as good as the original if not better. My tikka masala was good, I wish the chicken pieces weren't as tender as they were. It might have been because they chop the chicken into small cubes. It was very tomato-y flavor and good. I imagine this place to be the spot whenever the cold comes back. I'm definitely going to come back and try something else. I'm an Indian food fan. The service was impeccable. I think the owner stopped by our table to ask how things were and he was so nice. The Chicken Korma was very good, but the Butter Chicken was the worst I have ever had.
