Ann's Thai kitchen is still one of my favorite places for Thai food. The menu has a large variety of things too try, and I'm trying to try all of them! Thai Food has been my favorite food for quite some time now, but I'm still finding new dishes to try. When they are busy, the wait can be a little long, because Ann herself cooks every dish. Most dishes are cooked mild, and then you can add spices to suit yourself. I used to like it really spicy, but I just can't do that anymore. Massaman curry has always been my favorite, but tonight I tried the yellow curry and it was quite good. I think next trip I'll try the Penang curry. How about tomorrow! read more

Ann's has been open for a long time, and we are just now making it in there. Located in a small building right off of S. 1st and Willis. Atmosphere: Quaint little place with lots of Thai memorabilia. Very comfortable booths and temperature. It's a quiet place too. 1 Star. Service: Phenomenal. Oh (sp?) is the husband of Ann (who does all the cooking) and is the only waiter there. He was adorable and thoughtful. He came and talked Dallas Cowboys with us and asked us all about who we were and where we were from. He was genuinely interested in getting to know us. 2 Stars. Food: I don't know where the people with negative reviews mentioning the lack of flavor were eating, but it wasn't where I just ate. We happened to go on a night when they were out of several things, but with a good excuse. They are going to Thailand for a couple of weeks and didn't want to overstock the restaurant. Really wanted spring rolls, but it was no big deal. We did instead get the chicken wings, and for wings with no sauce, these were great! Super crispy and spiced just right. The wife ordered the Mixed Vegetables with Chicken and we got an order of Shrimp Fried Rice to share. I asked Oh what his curry recommendation was, and he said the Red Curry with Chicken. So that's what I ordered. I got mine "hot." There are 5 level of heat that you can order: Mild, Medium, Hot, Thai Hot, and Super Hot. I went dead middle and will definitely go "Thai hot" next time. It had a decent kick to it, but I would have been down for just a little more. The taste of the curry however was outstanding!!! So much flavor. My tastebuds were dancing. The Thai basil in there really adds to it. I ended up pouring what leftover curry I had from my bowl onto my rice and eating it. The Shrimp fried rice was also very good. The perfect consistency with lots of jumbo sized shrimp. My wife's mixed veggie dish was also very tasty. The broth was rich and almost creamy. Really stuck to the palate. 2 Stars. Overall: The place was so dead. We were only one of two couples in the restaurant for the hour and a half that we were there. I will say though, the takeout game was hopping. There were a number of DoorDash types that came in to pick up orders. More people need to go here and keep them packed. They are such nice people and worth supporting. We will definitely go back and try more dishes, because everything was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Be prepared to wait a while for your meals however. She is cooking alone, and every meal is made from scratch and comes out hot. 5 stars. read more

I have lived in Abilene for eight months, and I regret not finding Ann's Kitchen before. The place is small, but this tiny restaurant's food has not equal in Abilene. We ordered mixed vegetables with shrimp and a mild red spicy curry. The curry was so tasteful that we could identify each ingredient while the vegetables were fresh (some of the vegetables are grown by Ann, the restaurant's owner and cook.) We met Ann, a lovely, joyful lady who is proud of her kitchen and heritage. I loved this place and intent to try the entire menu. We order Pad See Ew, Panang Curry & Garlic Pork. Garlic pork actually tasted good, that why they got 1 star. Pad See Ew had no flavor or season of any kind. Not even salt or pepper. Ended up adding soy sauce and chili oil just to be able eat it Panang Curry doesn't even taste like curry. Four months pregnant and I couldn't get enough of this place. we ordered spring rolls, wings, shrimp curry, and fried rice. I enjoyed every bit of it. can't wait to go back. There are a couple Thai restaurants in Abilene but this one has jungle curry.....u can think me later. Anns is a treat to eat at. When I'm sick I always get the jungle curry and that gets me back to health in no time. The Tom yum is delicious as well. read more

I had a pleasant experience dinning here. Their green curry noodles really hit the spot today. It had rice noodles, green curry, bamboo shoots, lime leaf, and chicken. Then I spied my all time favorite- a tuk tuk! Ok, it's a kids one but just seeing it made me so happy! Thai karaoke was playing and again, happy memories. Excellent Thai food at Ann's Thai Kitchen. Every time I go into Abilene I stop there for lunch, about 2-3 times a month. Always have very tasty food and like to try a different dish each time. Always add a little hot spice to the dish to enhance its flavor, Ann will make it anywhere from mild to super hot. My first experience wasn't as good, but I wanted to give them another try today since I've been craving Thai food for a while and there's not much to choose from in Abilene. My friend and I shares the panang curry and padkeemao both w chicken and hot, we loved it. The food was authentic and had the perfect spice and I'm really picky about that. The wait is over! And I'm not impressed. :-( I ordered chicken pad Thai for take out. It was just lacking flavor. Noodles were very dry, barely a taste of fish oil, and no peanut taste. On the plus side, the restaurant was immaculate. Spotless. That's always nice to see. The hostess was very friendly and gave me a suggestion for what I should try next time. Pretty good food. I was impressed. The problem is - you're hit with RULES from the the moment you hit the door (check out the front door signs and the front page of the menu). Ann demanded that our family "order more food". We ordered more and it still wasn't enough. We were in Ann's house, so we followed her rules and kept on ordering. (we left food on our plates at the end of the meal). We were one of only 3 tables in the whole place. If we had been taking up table space, I would have understood. Urgh...the ordering process wore me out. We dropped a lot of money there and I still don't think it was enough for Ann. Our group won't go back. It's Abilene, TX and when I'm in town, I know that I have SO many other great, easy, and inexpensive choices for good food. We're looking to get out of the house with the family and have a good time - instead we were made to feel guilty, very uncomfortable, & the demand$ put a huge damper on our experience. Hope Ann is able to shut down all the rules and take a class on customer service before she has to shut her doors because she CAN cook. read more

Anne's has for the most part been my fave Thai food place if only because when I say "make it as spicy as you can" I'm simply told "that costs extra" and after adding a dollar to my bill I actually get spicy thai food. I've had Thai food cooked for me in my home by Thai friends, and I've eaten Thai food on almost every trip I've taken anywhere in the US. While I've had great Thai food elsewhere this still holds up. I will say this though, the food at Anne's comes one way, her way. She even put a little insert into the menu warning you. read more

The good points: Lovely decor inside and staffed with friendly people. The bad: When you open the menu you are greeted with a list of rules. You aren't allowed to make changes to any dishes, you aren't allowed to send food back and if a person orders an appetizer as their meal, a $5 charge will be added to the tab. It is really, really off putting, especially about not being able to send food back or change an order. I was going to order the Yellow Curry Fried Rice, but they were out of the milk they use to make it with. I wanted to cry. How does one run out of that? They were very apologetic though. My main concern was obtaining something meatless (and I am not a fan of tofu, so that wasn't an option). My friend was kind enough to inform them that I did not want meat in my pad thai (there was not a meatless version on the menu) and they had no problem doing that for me. I told them that the egg in it was okay and the lady who was cooking came out and told me she would get as much egg out as possible. I was afraid to even ask because of their list of rules and I don't know why they list such rules. I would easily give them four stars if they removed it. My pad thai could have also used more peanut sauce, but it was still good, as was the jasmine tea both my husband and I had. read more

I think you have to be a fan of curry/Thai food to go here. I started to feel a little sick after a few bites and I couldn't quite place the flavors. I got Panang and Red curry. They were not gross, like eating something bad but they were not good either. I could hardly tell the difference between the two also. Service was good, the lady servicing us was very nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. This was the reason it doesn't get 1 star.
