Spice Rack is a busy storefront restaurant, clean, bright with minimum ambiance, but avery pleasant staff. The food was good, very reasonably priced, but not exceptional. The wait once the order was taken was excessive, as there were a number of customers receiving take-out orders. Went to this place for the first time as my girlfriend highly recommended it. The food was great. The meal was ready once I got there as we chose takeout. Once I got home the flavor within the food was very authentic. For the first time I tried butter chicken, it was very good. I asked for medium as I was not sure of how hot things could get plus the dinner was for two so had to place the meal within a decent level for the both of us. I went here on a weeknight for a 2nd date with someone. I was very pleased! The weather was bad, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The dining area is small but bright and clean. I chuckled somewhat when our waiter was actually a white man, but he was very polite, helpful, and knew his Indian food! This place is really a gem. I recently started going here, and every dish I have tried has been well made and interesting. The service is great too. My only complaint is the spice scale. There is a massive gap between "mild" and "medium" at this restaurant. I normally order "medium" - which can still be a challenge for me. But the "medium" at Spice Rack floored me! I could not eat it. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing, and I don't think it should dissuade anyone from trying this restaurant! I want to make that absolutely clear. It's just that the heat difference between "mild" and "medium" is more intense than the gap at most other Indian restaurants in the lower Bucks County and Northeast Philly area. Frantically searching for a good lunch place, we went to this shop. We ordered the Butter Chicken, looking at the menu that said it was a HOUSE special. Looking forward to a good meal we waited. When the food came, it was the previous day's tandoori chicken dipped in butter sauce. Chicken was not fresh. It was yesterday 's and had tandoori coating. Some of the best Indian food I have had, and by far the best in the area. It is not your typical Indian, but much better. Always full of Indian people and few non Indians, at least when we're there. I cannot think of a dish that wasn't great. Definitely ask for help when ordering; they will even recommend dishes that are not on the menu. Staff is very friendly. My fiancé and I ate here about a month ago and the food was wonderful. The staff was even better! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the manager even came to check on us later in our meal. My fiancé loves spicy food so he had asked to make his butter chicken as spicy as possible. The waiter noticed that my fiancé wasn't fazed by the extra spice and offered a side of cayenne pepper so he could adjust the dish to his desired level of heat. We recently just went again and the waiter told the chef to make the food extra spicy. But this time, the chef was actually humoring him by adding more spice. My fiancé loved it but whispered to me, this still could be spicier. The chef came out and asked if he was enjoying his food and said he had never made it that spicy for anyone before. We both enjoyed our food and my fiancé was happy that someone had finally taken him seriously when he asked for spicy food. read more

After reading the rave reviews, I wanted to try this restaurant and ordered a takeout for Malai Kofta and a plain Naan. I was so disappointed that I was doubting myself whether I read the reviews for the right restaurant. The Kofta balls were straight from freezer and they were not even thawed properly before handing over the food pack to me. I want everyone of you to know that they seem to use a lot of frozen stuff. The same quality (or even a better one) can be bought from the frozen sections of any India or other stores for less than $5.00. I am of Indian origin and I have been eating Indian food all my life. This was around 12:00 noon and not late in the night just before their closing. The Naan bread was fresh and tasty but not the Malai Kofta. The one star is for the Naan bread. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! The food is phenomenal and the staff are welcoming and accommodating. They are more than willing to tell you all the ingredients in a dish and even offer to customize your dish and/or offer items not found on the menu. I especially appreciate the fact that the food quality is really good and I have NEVER had a stomach issue after dining here (which had been a reason why I rarely ate Indian before). The portions are good and the complexity of the flavors makes this a perfect meal whether you eat in or take out. I highly recommend this establishment and will continue to frequent it. read more

If you have never tried Indian cuisine....you have got to try this place. My husband and I love the food here. We've ordered take out as well and I feel that you get more food when you sit in. It does take a while for your order to come out, but understand it doesn't get any fresher. It is a very small restaurant so you can't come with a huge party. Best Indian food in the area, you can definitely taste the fresh spices, but the table we got was a bit dirty and it took awhile for the table next to us to get bused. White rice was merely ok, will probably try a flavored rice next time. Samosa chaat was really good. Spicy chicken tikka masala was on par for best we have ever had. Food is delicious ,however portions for take out doesn't feed one person for the price you pay! I have ordered take out from many different restaurants and so I decided to try this one. When I reached home, the portions were unbelievably small! I ordered chicken tikka masala , chicken biryani. There were empty spots in the foam container of the biriyani and it looked like they tried very hard to cover it up. I received two chicken pieces and some masala in a very tiny soup container. If you want delicious small samples to taste for big prices, this is your place. If you are hungry, try other Indian restaurants. read more

We did a togo with tikki puri & paneer. When we got there we found that the paneer wasn't as hot (taste wise) as we wanted.... we have a lot of die-hard desi friends & family who like food superhot.... 10 alarm burn your tongue off hot! The lady running the kitchen (I believe she is also one of the owners) worked diligently with us (many iterations of hotter) and even offered to take back the paneer if we were not absolutely satisfied. Long story short, the paneer was DELICIOUS, the tikki puri tasty & I feel awful that we put her to so much trouble. Highly recommend this restaurant & the owners! read more

Oh my God! Spice Rack has the BEST Indian food I've EVER HAD!!! And I know good Indian food and have been to the highest ranked Indian restaurants in NYC! When I saw Spice Rack's good Yelp ranking, I had high hopes, but great Indian food in Bensalem? I was skeptical. I eat all of my skeptical words--although it's hard because I'm so full after Spice Rack Indian food and so satisfied. Seriously, though, I've worked at an Indian restaurant, I've had Indian friends make me great home-cooked Indian food, and I've really not in all my life ever had Indian food as good as this. Never. My only piece of advice is that if you ask for spicy, you'd better mean it: they mean business when you say you want something spicy. Everything we ordered tonight I'd recommend: Fish Biryani, Malai Kofta, Bhindi Masala, Chicken Korma, Sev Puri, and garlic naan. (By we, I mean two of us. We ordered several dinners and just took leftovers home, and I advise you to do the same so that you get to try different dishes they have.) I can't wait to go back to eat at Spice Rack again!!! read more

My husband and I ordered food from here for our baby shower which only consisted of about 40 people. We were advised by our friends NOT to order food from here because they dont give you enough. Their take out trays are half the depth of other restaurants and hence you DONT get enough food. Despite their warnings, and with the assurance of the young manager at Spice Rack, we ordered a large tray of lamb korma and was told it will feed 50-55 people. Our friends were right. They DONT give you enough food and we DID RUN OUT! Only half of our guest got any lamb pieces while the other half only had watered down curry without any lamb pieces. We only had 40 people to begin with and if a large tray that cost me $135 was to be sufficient for 50-55, how come more than half of my guest (about 20 people) received no lamb? i paid $135 to get a tray of watered down curry basically. I tried to address this issue with the young manager who happens to be in his 20s with no business ethics. He kept telling me that there was more then enough pieces and did nothing else to address this issue. He basically had an attitude as if I was lying to gain something else. They are also a bit pricey. Most of the indian places charge $1.00 per nan for take out. This place charges over $1.50 and I was told that If I did not like their prices, "I could go elsewhere." Not a good attitude or business ethics to have when running a business. DEF WOULD NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND. DEF NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR THE ATTITUDE. read more
