I had the to-go lunchbox with chicken tikka masala, Punjabi samosa, rice, and garlic naan. I also ordered a chai tea. These were very delicious and recommend them for those who don't know a lot about Indian food. The customized spice level (1-10) was very nice as well. I recommend a spice level of 5 as I found it delicious and tolerable even in 80 degree weather. The service was very polite and quick. I ordered in a small but air-conditioned space that I could wait in. The wait was about less than 20 minutes and was well worth it. A couple friends recently have told us about Cafe Bombay, And we were in a mood for Indian tonight and figure why not give it a shot interesting to learn that there still take out only in this case wasn't so bad we had a lot of our questions answered on the phone and they were very specific about spice level which helps us in our case we like spice flavor but not for fire in a mouth get me a container of milk. Hence the scale of 0 lowest to 7 highest. We started off with an order of the chicken Samosa and I will tell you it was probably one of the top to samosas that we've had nice and soft not oily greasy the meat mix inside was just sensational dipping sauces a real treat. For a two entrées that we shared, one was the lamb Rogan Josh, pieces of landmarinated and yogurt with herbs spiced cooked in a special gravy it was a home run comfy food kind of meal. We ordered space at three next time I think we're gonna do a five want the flavor profile. The second dish was the Malabar chicken stew which is kerala style chicken stew recipe in a rich coconut milk curry stewed with vegetables chunks and chicken and flavored with Malabar coast spices a very nice dish. we ordered it at a three spice. next time I think I'm going for five or six on spice to get that flavor profile. After seeing all the positive reviews, I was confident to try this place out as we recently moved and don't know any Indian spots in the area. However, I was seriously disappointed by the experience. 1. This is a takeout only restaurant. This is not stated anywhere online but is immediately apparent when you order through a door. 2. The food was just not good. I'm originally from central NJ and we have plenty of Indian joints. I've tried similar dishes at a variety of them and have never had such a negative experience. We got the chicken tikka masala, naan, veggie appetizer sampler, and a mango lassi. The chicken tikka masala was prepared almost like a Thai curry and the chicken had a rubbery texture. The vegetarian appetizer sampler is literally just a bunch of battered, deep fried foods, none of which stood out. The naan was flavorless and soggy, and the mango lassi tasted like it was from concentrate. Ultimately, we aren't a picky bunch but this was a serious disappointment. Save your money. read more

Today was my second visit for take out from Cafe Bombay. My first visit several weeks ago proved to be a wonderful taste treat. I figured a second visit was warranted and it did not disappoint. I have to disclose that I recently moved to Bucks County from Connecticut where I've been spoiled by the food mecca including Frank Pepe's Pizza, as well as great dining in Hartford and Fairfield Counties. Dining out since my move has often been a very disappointing experience. Well, Cafe Bombay has renewed my faith in great Indian cooking. This is strictly a take out place. The owner is gracious and obviously takes pride in this family owned restaurant. I ordered samosas which were great. Also chicken vindaloo, Aloo Gobi, mattar Paneer, naan, raita, and a fabulous carrot hylwa dessert. What struck me was the amazing individual flavors of the spice blends in each dish. A medley of spice harmonies! The consistency of each sauce was fabulous. Each dish individually prepared with care, packed beautifully. My only disappointment was the naan which appeared doughy and I would love to see a true tandoori chicken on the bone on the menu. A large portion of perfectly cooked basmati rice accompanied the lovely dishes. The raita was truly flavorful and unique, a delicious yogurt chock full of cucumber, tomato and spices. I still can't say enough about Cafe Bombay. The owners are friendly and always improving. I really love everything I have had here. The chicken Tikka masala is wonderful. Spicy yet nuanced flavors. The lamb kadai is great. You don't see traditional kadai on many menus so I highly recommend trying it. They can spice it however you want. I'm OK with spice and 7 is hot for me. My wife doesn't like any spice and she enjoys their level 0. Seriously, she can't stand too much black pepper and she's OK with their level zero. Ok; so where do I begin. I am a chef who has worked in multiple Indian restaurants over the years. Including one of the most prestige Indian restaurants in New York. After leaving the culinary field; I left to pursue my dreams of traveling and doing food reviews. When I stumbled across Cafe Bombay; the reviews were promising. However I noticed the reviews were mostly based on the Caucasian population in Bristol and not many reviewers who are Indian themselves. So that being said; I'm indian and have the culinary expertise to tell you that the food I had here is no where near authentic Indian food. The fact that they call it authentic is a disgrace towards actual Indian food. Biryani is not supposed to have pineapple in it; the biryani ended up tasting sweet and too minty. The paneer tasted too forward on a singular spice. The taste in general was off on everything I ordered almost like all the Indian food was made for the likes of only people that don't know what real Indian food is. I am a Bristol fan. When I see something worth applauding on Mill Street I want a review with a marching band. So, when Café Bombay came to my attention I had to visit ASAP. Last night was the night. I drove down with two mystery munchers and entered just after 7 per our reservation. We were the only patrons, which was a bit disconcerting, but we grabbed the table in front to have the best view of the world going by, and be farthest from the kitchen. The turmeric in the air was so palpable that we all were sneezing within minutes. At least we knew the Masala Sauce would be dynamic. For apps, we order 1.5 orders of Veggie Samosa. We were pleased that half orders (1 samosa) were viable, as we only were three, and wanted to save space for later. The Sams were excellent with soft potato and hard peas. NIce. Our entrees consisted of Kerala Chicken Curry, traditional dish; Chicken Xacutti, Roasted Coconut was the most noticeable spice; and Navarathan Korma, veggies, cheese, nuts & herbs. All the gravies were creamy and packed a punch. Given that we had to find a common denominator of heat, the range chosen was between 6 and 8, and all tasted, "just right." Additionally, we had Bombay Naan, a sweet version of the classic Indian Oven baked bread, with Almonds, Raisins, Ginger and Coconut; a perfect balance to the spicy heat coming from the main courses. All these were first class. The Mango Lassi while good, was undersized for the price of $3.50. We were suggested to try a slice of Coconut Ice Cream Pie for dessert. A first for me, it was pleasing like a cold Key Lime Pie, but a questionable purchase at $4.99. Café Bombay is definitely worth another visit as the menu hides other treasures. Still, in an attempt to learn the lesson here, I would skip the lassi and dessert, and stay with the variety of main courses and regional specialties listed on the menu. One other oddity is that the online website menu does not list prices to permit changing market conditions. That is a situation that should be easily remedied with a host changing the prices as necessary. read more

We've been wanting to stop and give this place a try for a while and I'm glad that we finally did. The room itself is very nice and the Chef/owner's (?) daughter was our server. She was very helpful and must have read my mind because I had previously looked at the on-line menu and was leaning toward the crab entrée. Telling her I was thinking of seafood, she asked me a few questions and steered me toward the Crab Goa, which was crab meat cooked with coconut milk (optional), ginger and Indian spices from a 125 year old recipe. It was delicious. The Chicken Tikka was boneless pieces of marinated chicken with onions and peppers cooked in a Tandoor, a pitcher shaped oven made of Indian clay. Its slow and steady heat left the chicken perfectly moist. You can pick the level of "heat" for your meal too, which makes it more enjoyable. We had shared a Non-vegetarian Samosa as an appetizer and in addition to being very good, it was not at all greasy. Along with dinner we had Garlic Nan, which was also very good. So for about $44.00, before tip, we had a delicious pre-theater dinner and are looking forward to going back and trying some of their other great sounding items. Note: it's a BYO. read more

This place was tough to get to since as of late they've only been open for lunch on reservation - due to a newborn in the family and it's completely a family run restaurant. Finally I managed to make a reservation on a day that worked out for us (me and some guys from the office) and the family. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to order. It was my first Indian food experience and there were so many things I wanted to try. I finally settled for the vinadaloo lamb curry. Vindaloo is known as being one of the spiciest curry dishes, so I definitely wanted to try it. We were able to get each of our curry dishes catered to our preferable spice level from 1 - 10. I ended up getting around 7 - 8. The curry came out in a shallow bowl with potatoes and topped with pearl onions. There was also rice served on the side. The first and every bite was delicious. The lamb was tender and tasty. The first bit wasn't too spicy. I was kinda expecting that hot burning feeling right off the bat. After half to 3/4 of the platter was finished, each bite started to burn. The accumulation of the spices made it feel like I was putting a hot piece of coal on my tongue. I'm not complaining of course, I love spicy food. It was just a little intense and didn't quite expect it to go down like that haha. The meal was fantastic and the owner, Gigi was very friendly and talked to us a few times during the meal. I will go back in a heartbeat. This is my second time ordering from this restaurant. 1st time I didn't love the flavor as much as my "go to" spot so it took me a couple years to come back and try again. This time we had chicken tikka masala, vegetable samosas, buttered naan and garlic naan. I guess because I'm not used to their flavor I wasn't a huge fan. The samosas have a slight sweet taste to the filling and the same with the garlic naan. The chicken was nice and tender though! First ever visit here inspired by some good reviews here, but my experience was only okay. People were nice enough.....at this stage of the game with COVID, I thought their precautions excessive to leave customers waiting outside in the rain for take out only service, not allowing you in past the front door. But, even that would have been okay if the food were better. Portion size was good, but, the flavors not quite as much. Samosas were the standout, I had Kedai Vegetables with paneer that was overly sauced and under spiced (for ordering spice level 8 of 10). In the past, I have experienced Kedai (Kadai) as a stir fried dish w onions, peppers and chiles, but here it was a saucy, coconut milk based experience that left me longing for what I knew. My wife ordered chicken tikka masala with similar feedback, too saucy, and not as flavorful as we have experienced elsewhere. My husband and I, his son and girlfriend ate here last night. The service was superb from the greeting through the meal until the end. The food was delicious. We had assorted apps and all four had different entrees. You can choose the amount of heat as you order from 1 to 10. This was the first time my husband and I ate Indian cuisine. We were at Bombay restaurant two years ago and really loved the food. Since we were in Bristol today we were anxious to go there again. We were very disappointed. Our lamb dish had small pieces of lamb and some were very chewy. Our vegetarian dish was supposed to contain eggplant but we could not find any. This initial event was great fun. We had 32 people attend and Gigi prepared for us an amazing assortment of fresh flavorful dishes that were less predictable than your average Indian Restaurant offers. The fact that the food was so great combined with having the restaurant all to ourselves created a really fun atmosphere. I hope that food-ie members return as often as possible because there just never seems to be enough appreciation for Bombay in Bristol. Let me start off by saying I NEVER leave reviews. However this restaurant went above and beyond with any expectations I had. It's a family owned establishment meaning the mother and father cook and serve along with the help of their kids. It was absolutely adorable! The location was easy to find with ample street parking available. The restaurant itself was clean and welcoming. Now the important part: the food. We ordered the nonveg platter as an appetizer and it was AMAZING. Definitely recommend it. Then for the main course we got garlic naan, chicken makhani, eggplant, and shrimp biriyani. Dear lord it was all so delicious. The spiciness was perfect! And for dessert, I highly recommend ordering one of the pies. We got the chai one, soooooooo good. This place is OK, nothing special, or more accurate -- nothing I really liked. The decor of the place is dated. The ambiance is dark, yet somehow has a lot of chandeliers! The art work on the walls are nice, but hard to look at considering the lighting. The music was a particular kind of Indian music that I do not appreciate -- it's the kind of music you hear in bizarre indie films that you watch with that guy you once dated because he was cute, not because he made an interpretive dance for you. The food is not bad. You can ask for spice level of 1- 10. I would say if you are used to ethnic cuisines, you can definitely go higher than 5. The bombay naan did not have enough nuts! Cafe Bombay has some of the best Indian food I've ever had. They're located in downtown Bristol, secluded from the main highway, so it can be hard to find it. The food is so fresh, authentic and simply delicious. The daal is superb, and is seasoned perfectly. I am in love with their chicken tikka masala. The sauce is an amazing compliment to incredibly tender chicken. The samosas are phenomenal too. They have an incredibly naan seasoned with cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins that is a great compliment to the salty and savory food. Make sure you end your meal with a mango lassi, too; they have the best I've ever drank. They tend to be rather slow in cooking the food, so I definitely recommend calling your order in and picking it up. A true hidden gem in Bucks county. read more

I was completely surprised to find this delicious truly "5 Star" Indian restaurant in this area. As far as I know (just from walking around the neighborhood) there does not seem to be a large Indian population, or much of anything that would make you think a great restaurant of any type would be there. But the vibe in Bristol is changing; there is a slowly but steadily growing section of people of all ages who seem willing to try new things in this very quiet and "working class" little town on the Delaware. The reason I mention the actual location is because I feel the owners of this restaurant took a chance by opening it here. As far as the older generation in Bristol, it would seem that they are kind of "meat and potatoes" rather than "Vindaloo and Palak Paneer". But when it comes to a great product or service I guess the saying "if you build it they will come" tends to hold true in business. Congratulations and thank you to the proprietors for opening a delicious and consistent Indian restaurant. If you truly love Indian food, then you must go visit Gigi and his family at Cafe Bombay. Each dish is prepared fresh upon order with the best imported spices and in a traditional Indian recipe. As a family we have eaten nearly every menu item and have never been disappointed. The portion size is generous and enough that we usually eat family style sharing dishes amongst the table and still have left overs. Must order: Bombay Naan! It's incredible! We usually place an extra order just to take home to eat with our left overs. Your waiter will ask for your desired level of "heat" so note that a 4 will be a subtle spice and a 5 will be medium spice level. I enjoy spicy foods however I usually order a level 5 so that I can still enjoy all the flavors without my mouth on fire. Great food, great atmosphere, friendly family business. I eat at Indian restaurants everywhere I go, and I travel quite often (over a dozen countries and across the US). This was unusually good food. The range of flavors and textures was excellent, the bread was fresh, and the spice range (1-10) allowed me to enjoy a shockingly hot 10 while my 9yr old daughter enjoyed a modestly spicy 5. I can't recommend any one item because we ordered a variety and everything was good. I would simply suggest trying it out. The food at Cafe Bombay is both fantastic and reasonably priced - not always an easy combination to find. Favorite dishes include: palaak paneer, chicken saag, the vegetable curry with cashew nuts and raisins, bombay naan, spinach & cheese spring rolls, spinach & onion fritters. My only "criticism" would be of the appetizer samplers - there is nothing wrong with them, but they are predominantly deep fried, and simply not what I was looking for. Create your own sampler - the food is so affordable it is worth selecting the items that really excel on the menu. Awesome Indian food! We love coming here every few weeks or order take out. I like the atmosphere. It is relaxing with Indian music playing and dimmed lighting. The decor is somewhat upscale looking but people mostly show up casual. It is also a BYOB which I just discovered. The sauces they serve with the samosas are amazing. I especially love the tamarind sauce, I wish they bottled that stuff! Don't leave without getting the Bombay Naan either. It's made with a coconut, almond, cinnamon, and ginger filling. They also give you the option on most dishes for a spice level of 1-10. The rogan josh and the curry dishes (especially with lamb) are amazing! I always have some left over for the next day too.
